Various Errors While Attempting to Download Mods From Nexus

Question

Posted

Just recently I had to re-install my Operating System. I decided this would be a good time to start my Skyrim over from scratch and set everything up exactly how I wanted it this time.

I have the newest version of Mod Organizer installed (1.2.17) on J: which is a dedicated 150GB 10,000rpm drive just for Mod Organizer and my mods.

My Skyrim is installed on my games drive D:

I have a SSD as my system drive, so I prefer to keep only the OS and required files on C:

I use Chromium 64 bit installed as my user, as is Mod Organizer.

When I click on a file in Chromium to download a mod from Nexus, the first file downloads with no problem. The problem happens if there is at least 1 file already downloading and I try to download another, this is when it all falls apart. First I get a message saying "failed to communicate with running instance". When I click OK, Mod Organizer freezes (Not Responding in the title bar) for a good 10-15 seconds and then it shows it downloaded the file. It also does the "Not Responding in the title bar" for almost every action I attempt in MO, like enabling a small mode like "Live Another Life" which froze it for at least 10 seconds as it enabled.

I have moved all my files to another drive and re-installed MO fresh and tried doing everything again and it still does it. So re-installing MO didn't help.

I checked the NTFS permissions and the security settings for the drive and folders, all is setup ok.

Before I reinstalled my OS, I was using 1.2.15 and it didn't have these issues. So I am at a loss as to what it could be.

Could it be something with my new install? Something with the new version?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I would do is try to eliminate options.

Try using IE as your browser and initiate some downloads for MO to handle. That might tell us if there is something going on with Chromium and MO.

OK

I tried with IE and Maxthon and it no longer has the annoying "failed to communicate with running instance" error

But...

Now MO stops responding 10-15 seconds (after it brings the window to the front) before it will do anything (says Not Responding in the title bar) then it will finally start the download. This is now on the first file too. Stops responding even longer if a file IS downloading.

Can list for us your system specs and software versions?

Any AV packages or other software that might be trying to intercept those calls? Malware protection that sort of thing? Maybe other services that you have such as Game Companion or similar? GeForce Experience or an AMD equivalent?

Something is grabbing those calls and stopping MO from continuing and thus throwing up the 'Not responding' message.

The failed to communicate to running instance error usually only occurs if you have say the browse for archive window open at the same time as you're trying to download something, etc.

As for the rest have you done a restart on your computer?

System specs are in my signature, no antivirus or malware software installed yet just windows 8.1's default protection stuff, no game companions or anything just geforce experience which i never touch anything in it.

System has been rebooted many times since this issue has came up.

Thanks, I completely missed your signature, sorry 'bout that.

This is way outta-left-field, does all your other software communicate at top speed between their HDD's and your J: drive? ie. if you perform any file operation with read/write functions, to or from that drive, does it work as expected? It's the only thing that is different and I'm sort of hoping there may be a problem there. At least a problem that can be fixed that is.

Well I'm stumped at the moment.

Re-reading your opening post has just removed the next options I was going to suggest.

If, as you say, 1.2.15 worked before then perhaps it is time to submit a bug report and let Tannin have a look at it.
