ok, this thread isn't really about STEP, but I've spent the last 3 days trying to get the Core mods playable. Long story short- I've followed STEP Core twice (second time choosing all LQ options) and couldn't get playable performance on my R7 260x with 2GB DDR5, so I've decided to do a clean install and see what (almost) vanilla is like. I have my .inis and drivers set up exactly like the Core guide. The only other modification I did was to install SKSE and Alternate Start. I have all 3 DLC enabled.
During the intro cart ride, my VRAM starts at 800 MB, but inside Whiterun is brutal. A quick circuit of the city brought me over 1600MB of VRAM. This is with 4x AA and no Hi res DLC. My FPS is fine, but any texture mods bring macrostuttering. I tried again with my DDsopt-edited vanilla textures and it made 0 difference.
When skyrim was released I had an i5 and a 512GB GTX 460, and yet I still managed to play at 1080p with AA.
With the full Core set of mods, my VRAM is always maxed at 2GB, and I couldn't bring it down by removing Flora overhaul, SRO, and Serious HD. I've realized that vanilla actually looks alright to me, I just can't believe that the game uses this much VRAM. Open Cities was a necessity for me in Oblivion and I'd really love to have it in Skyrim.
Probably I'm just whining, but I really expected to be able to run some texture mods.
