Installing non-STEP mods

Question

Posted

Hello everyone,

I just finished installing the STEP Core mods, running it all through BOSS, starting up Wyre Bash, and creating the bashed patch. Aside from a couple hiccups that I was able to fix, the STEP core works very well.

Now, I would like to install some non-STEP mods, specifically Magicka Sabers Crystal and Midas Magic. I tried just downloading them with Mod Manager and installing them, then going through the procedure of updating the bashed patch. However, I don't think this is what I want to do because I'm using the STEP Core patch and I know it indexes the specific mods in a specific order. Indeed, after starting up the game, some of the sounds in Magicka Sabers don't work properly.

Can anyone enlighten me on the proper procedure for installing new mods AFTER having installed the entire set of STEP core mods?

Thank you,

Veraan

As far as I know after STEP you are pretty much on your own, but luckily the procedure is the same for all mods.

I don't know about those specific mods but I would first search nexus forums and here if there is any known issues. Then load it up in TES5edit and search the thing for conflicts after it has been placed in a logical, and per authors instructions, order in the mod list. If there are conflicts check if you can add them to your own conflict resolution esp which you load after step patches. The play test for an hour, spawn 30 bandits and let them fight a couple of dragons or just fly around and see if you can get it to crash. If not then your probably good.

Takes a while, but for unknown mods that's the only way I know to get a stable game. Also since you can't uninstall anything it's worth taking one more consideration if it worth the trouble.
