Freeze crossing bridge into Windhelm

Hey all I'm currently freezing every time trying to enter Windhelm.  Swimming there whatever it doesn't matter.  I'm assuming something is fouled as I try to load the Windhelm cell but not sure how to tackle this.   Does anyone here have any experience dealing with a Windhelm issue like this?  I tried googling the issue and came across some similarities but what fixes I saw were of no use.    

 

I launch with MOD using SKSE and have ENB .217 with Unreal Cinema in place.  

 

The game has been good to me up to this point (totally blown away by the grandeur of it !) and am currently L17.  I'm sure my mod list is a bit ambitious but I did spend months fine-tuning what I could figure out on my own.  I've SUM'd and BUM'd and BOSS'd but I'm sure I have a bad mix in here somewhere.  Appreciate any help from you all.  Thanks

Yeah.... with a list like that then it is quite impressive that you even managed to get that far! :)

 

Using two overhaul mods at the same time.... that just aint a good idea.

You also have a rather large amount of extra gameplay adding content on top of the two overhauls... Gotta love how creative people are! :D

 

But as to the issue... then it could be any number of things.

If you cannot even use the console to get there then something is broken with the mod list and you most likely just have to drop ever visiting there or start over. It would require that someone has a list almost equal to that which works in order to start troubleshooting it sadly :(

son of a b... Painstakingly put together too. Loaded up with Neo SR textures. Sprinkled in some Garfink ideas. But hey I stayed away from Wet and Cold !

I can COC into the hall in Windhelm but as soon as I exit the door - frozen. So it's most likely mod and not texture or a RAM issue ?

If you cannot load a given cell then yeah.. some mod is altering something in that cell (Worldspace technically since each city is its own world).

 

You could go through tes5edit and see what alters stuff in the windhelm worldspace... but might be quite the ordeal with that mod list.

Well I don't have papyrus enabled so I'm hoping that can offer some clues? (at work can't check until later).

 

If papyrus doesn't all I have left is a systematic uncheck of mods in MO? I suppose I should take this one step at a time but is there a good chance the mod(s) I need to remove will corrupt any saved game/progress I have made so far ? Or in general is there always a "safe" way to save and remove a mod as per the mod's instructions ?

If its a mod issue its "easy" to verify.. you do not need your saves... since you say that you cannot coc into the worldspace then you just have to setup a new mod list and then from the main menu use the console to go try it out.

 

Or like you wrote coc into the hall and go out the door...

 

For testing purposes, then move the official textures down to the bottom of your priority list in MO... that way you make sure its not related to memory since the game should be able to run with vanilla textures.. memory wise.

I had a very similar problem when I was approaching Windhelm from the bridge. It ended up being that the process was hitting the virtual memory cap and crashing. Do you have the speedhack on ENB enabled? You may want to look at how much memory skyrim is using by default; if its near the limit, that's your problem.

I pulled the plug on that setup. My 1st play-thru and I learned alot about what I really want. I'm looking for more hard core realism so Smile44's excellent packs are what I working with now. A big mod diet and a Requiem backbone is up next !

Just a follow up on this problem. I blew up my old mod list and profile and worked hard at streamlining everything. It's now Requiem based with zero additional spawns(creatures or W/Armor) with only Frostfall RN&D,Alternate Start, EFF and some companion mods as my only gameplay adds. Going very vanilla to create a hopeful long play through. Added Wrym and Falsk too.

 

About to set out and wanted to test Windhelm again and sure enough - bam. Same freeze crossing the bridge. It took a little bit but I finally figured it out! It was SMIM v1.49. Maybe the old v.conflicted with something, maybe a file was corrupt. No idea but testing without it and with the new 1.59 v in place I'm able to cross the bridge. Again and again. Finally :-)

I happen to have a requiem based mod list, but it is not S.T.E.P. based at all. I have about 170 plugins and several texture mods besides, and though I have the occasional crashes it is rather stable. I can go days without seeing a crash, some days I see 2 or 3 crashes. It just depends on how much I'm doing in the game I guess, but crashes are usually several hours if not days apart from each other and this is after putting about 100+ hours into the save. Rather curious if anyone might be interested in it.

I might post it up for fun in a day or two. Word of warning though, it is highly experimental in some regards. Not 100% stable as I have said previously but stable enough for a lot of fun, no broken quests or anything game breaking of that nature that I've seen so far.
