Identifying errors on the Papyrus logs, constant CTDs

Question

Posted

Hi everyone, hopefully someone here can help me out, I am clueless as to what to do.. I get crashes constantly when out in the wilds or inside cities, not when inside dungeons. Now, I've just practically started this playthrough, currently level 10 I think, so only ever been to Bleak Falls but in my first visit to Whiterun I crashed several times. Even had to go back like three saves earlier and redo Bleak Falls.. I say I've just started this playthrough but it seems like I should be level 30 by now with the amount of time I've spent trying to figure out why I'm having all these crashes.

BOSS says everything is OK, some mods have a few dirty edits but I'm following Gophers advice of notifying the mod's author that his mod has dirty edits instead of cleaning them myself. These include Birdsofskyrim, Cloaks, IMAGINATOR, hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation, SoS - The Wilds, The Dance of Death and Crimson Tide. Now, I've just heard that Birdsofskyrim, Headtracking and Sounds of Skyrim use a lot of CPU time, I was specially surprised about Headtracking which seems to be such a little mod. I'll uninstall them but I know it most likely won't be the end of the problem. I'd also hate to get rid of SoS which I really like since I never fast travel and The Wilds has sounds like eagles, which I love. It also didn't seem to give me any trouble on my lsat playthrough..

I checked with TESEdit and it loaded all my mods correctly as well. Enabled Papyrus and it's showing a few errors but I have absolutely no idea how to go on about knowing which of the mods cause the errors shown.

Enhanced Blood is the recommended blood mod over Crimson Tide. Apparently the blood scripts were an old version that were able to corrupt your saves, and Enhanced Blood uses updated versions. Also, you can clean the mods you have for personal use with TES5Edit. Gopher said that so people would not upload fixed versions of the plugins or if the author put those dirty edits in on purpose.

Are you using the latest version of the unofficial patches? They should be in a different order if you are. They are now false flagged as master files so they load right after the proper esm they are patching.

You only have 1 GB of VRAM so it is a good idea to set up ENBoost properly or reduce the size of your textures. Also check out Safety Load it seems to be helping many.

Overall, I'd say to many scripts running at once, not that any one mod is to blame, but if you have a lot mods running scripts all the time then it overloads the Papyrus script engine. Maybe disable Wet & Cold to start and see if that helps, also you could just disable some of the features in that mods MCM menu to start with.

Thanks for your prompt replies! I used to have Enhanced Blood Textures but wanted to try out Touring Carriages, which didn't go well since on the starting scene the carriage before the one the player, Ralof, the horse thief and Ulfric are just went bunkers and flipped over. Tried to solve it to no avail. Is it safe if I uninstall Crimson Tide and I install EBT now midplay?

And no, apparently no I don't have the updated USKPs.. Downloading.

Don't have any ENBoost, should I? I've read they're for high end PCs since they slow down everything, framerate drops, etc.

Well, ENBoost is a part of ENB that reduces memory while playing. ENB can be used without the graphics enhancements and you can just use ENBoost, so you don't loose performance.

We have an ENB wiki guide that you can use. Look under the ENB Choices tab and follow the directions under 'Using only ENBoost', then go to the Installation tab and go to the 'ENB INIs' and follow those directions to set it up for your hardware.

I wouldn't change from one blood mod to another mid playthrough because it could cause issues with saves. Maybe try a clean save to uninstall Crimson Tide and then see if things are going good before installing EBT.

Thanks for your help, will check it out.

I still want to know how to make sense of those Papyrus logs, is there a tutorial or something around? a program? Cause for example that log is from when I last CTD just out of Whiterun and it says something about SkyforgeSteelWeaponsQuest, I mean, I didn't even went to Jorvaskr.. KarliahInvisibilitySpell? Isn't she the Nightgale gal? I don't get it, never been evn near Riften or Winterhold, etc..

There is probably a conflict with the aMidianBorn Skyforge Steel plugin, but I doubt that caused the crash. The last four plugins for the blacksmith forge water fix can all be removed. The WATER blacksmith forge water is really good so you don't want to overwrite that. Not sure about the Karliah spell, but your log is only covering 1 minute so I doubt it is a script error, most likely RAM limit crash.

Uninstalled those Blacksmith water fixes. I am going to install ENBoost as you've suggested but now I've a question, a noob question, if you will: If I want to edit or do any ini tweaks, which one do I edit Skyrim.ini or ENBoost.ini. Do they work together or is enboost taking priority now?

Also, I was using Skyrim configurator, another Gopher suggestion, but although in game the changes did apply when I went on to my Skyrim.ini I found that thing like TreesReceiveShadows was still =0 instead of =1 as an example. I recently uninstalled said program. Or maybe I was confused, I got HiAlgoBoost.ini as well as HiAlgoRegisters.ini , which I've never touched.

EDIT: Just downloaded and I see they alter completely different things.

So the edits you make to the Skyrimprefs.ini is not for ENBoost part of ENB, that is for the graphics. The enblocal.ini is what you need to change, and also make sure that you have the enb files, d3d9.dll, enbhost.exe, and enblocal.ini, in the Skyrim folder not the Skyrim/data folder. If you have HiAlgoBoost and ENB they will not work together unless you set the proxy in enblocal.ini under the [PROXY] section. take the HiAlgoBoost d3d9.dll and rename it to d3d9_HiAlgo.dll then put it in the Skyrim folder. Then under [PROXY] in enblocal.ini set first to lines to 'true' and the thrid line to d3d9_HiAlgo.dll.

When you put HiAlgo and ENB in the Skyrim folder they both had a d3d9.dll and that will mess things up. make sure the ENB d3d9.dll is what you have in Skyrim folder first then rename the HiAlgo d3d9.dll BEFORE moving it into the Skyrim folder.

Thanks again for replying so patiently but I didn't know that and I replaced my d3d9.dll, which now that I read your post was HiAlgoBoost's for the enb one, I just directly copied the Wrapper Version, as mentioned on the guide, I believe a mention is in order for HiAlgoBoost users?

I redownloaded HAB and renamed as you've said. Set enblocal as you've said but whenever I start skse_loader with or without GameBooster the little window saying Skyrim has stopped working still appears.

Delete the HiAlgoBoost stuff and see if Skyrim starts, if not delete all the ENB files, anything that starts with enb and the d3d9.dll. Then reinstall HiAlgo the normal way and see if Skyrim starts.

If it starts one way but not the other then you know they will not work together. This might be on purpose because of some conflict.

Yeah, I had to do that. Maybe I'm doing something wrong while installing enb.. I downloaded the v_0233 link. And followed the instructions on the ENB Guide. I'll reinstall HAB for the time being. Though I would like to try enboost, saw that it changed the game to run in 64bits, right?

HAB and ENB does not work together most of the time. And Boris will smite anybody who come and ask about doing any sort of compatibility.

You should only use ENBoost if you have a 64bit system... if you have a 32bit one then do not bother, it is not optimized for that at all.

And since you only have 4Gb of RAM then once more.. that is most likely the cause of all your issues.

This is horrible, I give up with this damn game. I installed HAB again and now everytime I start the game a little window appears about HAB, this didn't use to happen. Now everytime I do a save game it takes much longer than before and I exited the game loaded it again and a message box saying the save couldn't be loaded cause the file is corrupted. This just about did it. I've spent so much time fixing the game and whatnot in the last week or two instead of actually been able to play the game that it has just stopped being fun at all. I want to play the game to have fun not to frustrate myself. Thanks for your help nevertheless, much appreciated.

Sorry to hear it is so frustrating!

But yeah, you should make sure your game works before you start playing since it is almost impossible to salvage a save once you have started.

Best suggestion is to stick with the STEP: Core suggestions as a base since these have been proven to work stable on quite a few machines. What you learn from doing that should allow you to add in the few extras you want to play with.

Sadly modding is not just plug and play yet! You have to spend a few weeks learning how to do it in order to enjoy the more detailed mod lists.

Also you are always welcome to come back with further questions etc. and we will try to help as well as possible.
