CoT - Sounds with SoS? Yes? No?

Question

Posted

What do you guys think? Should I be using these two together with the compatibility patches offered by SoS?

I can't tell if the Patches on the SoS Mod Sites are for CoT - Sounds only or for the entire mod? I get strange messages when running BOSS as well. It recommends me to activate those compatibility patches even when not using CoT - Sounds?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Never tried it but it may work (though both mods kinda do the same thing). Use PatchCoTSounds.

Where is PatchCoTSounds? Are you referring to the optional compatibility patches included with each SoS mod?

Place them like this (After you have run BOSS so EVERYTHING else is where it should be! ) If it is in this order.... everything is fine and should work out of the box.

SoS - The Dungeons.esp

SoS - The Wilds.esp

SoS - Civilization.esp

ClimatesOfTamriel-Sound.esp

SoS - The Wilds-PatchCoTSounds.esp

SoS - Civilization -PatchCoTSounds.esp

ANY other SOS or CoT patch

their relative order should not matter! For example if you are using ANY lighting overhaul the patches need to be placed here!

Also only use these patches if you are using CoT sounds... if you are not, then you need to make a patch yourself to make sure that you do not just get vanilla weathers everywhere. As I recall.

Ok, yea. I believe that is what my Load Order shows. Here is a picture of my load order as it is now. Ignore any ESS files. I have removed those.

Yes it looks fine.

Yessss :-). The reason why I dropped ESS was because of those two yellow boxes in the load order and also because the author of the CoT Snow Patch said this:

"You should remove CoT-Sounds module (and any patches related to it) if you are using Expanded Snow Systems with Sounds of Skyrim. The problem is the compatibility patches - essentially it's a three-way conflict. ESS + SoS or CoT-Sound + SoS is fine with the appropriate patches, but use all three and the patches will overwrite each other. In your current load order the SoS-patches are overwriting ESS's, so you would never actually see the new weathers in most regions. I think that is why those two esp's are orange, though I don't use Bash myself so it's just a guess.

Removing CoT-Sounds and the two SoS-patches related to it should solve the issue. That's what I would recommend, SoS covers most of what Sounds does anyway, so you don't really need it. If you're hell bent on using all three, you could merge the patches in TES5Edit, it's not too difficult to do.

Otherwise, the load order is looking good."

Removing CoT - Sounds did NOT solve that issue though. The only thing that turns the boxes green is moving ESS above SOS. It all got too confusing so I just dropped ESS since it's by no means a must-have mod.

Well he is right in that... you need to go into tes5edit and manually move the region entries from the non ESS patches into them in order for it to work as it should.

But since you do not like to do that sort of thing, you are going to have to live without it! :P

The author is actually a she :-P.

Also, yea, I really just want to keep things as simple as possible. ESS is cool but honestly I could care less which direction the snow falls.

HOWEVER, I also saw somebody say THIS regarding SoS and CoT - Sounds:

"Use either CoT Sounds or SoS. The one loaded after will kill the other in many regions including weathers.

Sounds and weathers use the same region sections."

What did he mean by this? Isn't that the point of the compatibility patches and having SoS/CoT - Sounds loaded BEFORE weather mods?

What he means is partly true.

Sounds are loaded in the same data as the weather... for some odd reason. The entry called regions under tes5edit.

If all the weathers, and sounds are not all loaded into these then something will end up not showing ingame unless you force it.

As long as I'm not missing out on any weathers by using both CoT - Sounds and Sounds of Skyrim.

You should not. The patch includes all weathers and sounds.

Ok. Well looks like I can actually play the game tonight.

By the way, I think I have done the impossible...

I have been using the same Save File that I've had since 2011 (YES, IT IS TRUE) and I am using the highest res mods possible (2k exterior, 4k interior, with ENBBoost of course V.221 with Project ENB). I'm not using Ultra Textures from SMIM though since I have no idea what those even change.

However, my point is, that my game is relatively stable even when using an old as he** save file. I only get a CTD/Freeze maybe once or twice and hour and sometimes I can go for multiple hours without any sort of problem.

I do use the 'clearinvalidregistrations' feature of SKSE so I'm not sure if that helped to remove old scripts.
