Wyre bash - falling at the first hurdle

Question

Posted

Hello. I'm new here (hi hi) and wondered if some of you mod savvy types might be able to assist.

I came across the STEP guide accidentally after installing a load of mods using NMM and having skyrim crash on me every five minutes. So, I thought I'd follow the guide to the letter in the hope of getting a better game without all the CTD.

So, I've been using the STEP wiki as a starting point, going the Wyre Bash route (as per the wiki instructions). It's all fairly daunting but I consider myself not a complete novice when it comes to mods, and thought the instructions were fairly clear. BUT....

For some reason the mod packages I've downloaded (and painstakingly renamed) aren't showing up in Wyre Bash. When I hit the 'installer' tab in wyre bash, it clearly scans all the packages, but then nothing. They don't appear.

I wonder if its something to do with the bash.ini. I think I followed the instructions in the wiki but I may have made a mistake somewhere.

Essentially what I did was make the bash_default copy, opened the copy up, went to edit>> replace and replaced '\oblivion' with '\skyrim', saved the copy as all documents 'bash.ini and left it right there. It seemed to create the 'skyrim mods' folder correctly, but I wonder if I did something wrong? Grateful for all and any help.

I'd quite like to get my head around Wyrebash as I am a big fan of modding so would help for the future, but if more experienced peeps out there reckon Im too much of a noob and should go with Mod Organiser instead I'm willing to accept defeat. I would just rather get my head around Wyre Bash!

Thanks in advance.

P.s. if its any help, it seems whatever version of Wyre bash I'm using is 295.5(Standalone)

Be sure that you have the following directories:

Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim Mods\Bash Installers

Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim

If you do, then you don't even need your bash.ini, which should be here:

Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Mopy

Suggest you rename your bash.ini or just delete it if you are using the default install location for WB and Skyrim (and you must be certain taht you installed WB for use with Skyrim).

Thanks for the swift response. I deleted, as you suggested. I have both of those folders (although my home drive is F: not C:). Unfortunately, still no joy, and I got this error message too (attached). Grateful for any further assistance you might be willing to furnish me with!

Looks like you may have installed the Python version. Are you sure you installed the standalone version?

If not, uninstall WB (or remove the mopy directory), and reinstall the standalone version.

EDIT: I also think that you may not have installed the game definitions. Once you remove the application, revisit the WB installation instructions and follow more carefully ;)

Nope. Tried that, still not appearing. Wow, how incredibly frustrating. I thought I'd have a bit of trouble sorting out the packages but not at this early stage!

I think I'll just go with Mod organiser. its probably a happy medium for someone of my technical aptitude...

Thanks for your help anyway. Really appreciate it.

You sir, are a legend. It worked! I'm not sure why I didn't try the alternative wyre bash installer you linked (fyi they both tell you to do contradictory things in the initial set up) but I can now see all the mods.

Thank you (and z929669) for your help.

Also the skyui on nexus has a bad bcf in it which is what is saying your error. If you repackage skyui without the bcf, out works fine
