Question

Posted

Hi all. I have a decent pc specs below and am having constant freezing ups where I have to hard restart the pc. I've cut back my mods from like 150 to 90 or so and made sure all mods are in correct order, checked the order on BOSS and have cleaned with TES5edit. But still after about 8 minutes of gameplay it'll freeze. It's really making me angry and I'm honestly thinking of throwing the freakin game in the trash. Here are my pc specs just in case you are wondering.

cpu-i7 2600k @4.5

cpu cooler-Corsair h100i

mb-Asus P8P67 Deluxe

ram-Corsair Vengeance LP 16gb

gpu-EVGA GTX 780 with ACX

ssd-Sandisk Extreme 240gb

hd-WD Caviar Black 1tb

psu-Kingwin KX-1000

case-NZXT Phantom 630

So I'm pretty sure it's not my pc, cause Skyrim is the only game that freezes or CTD.

So hopefully you guys can help me figure out the culprit so I can once again enjoy this game.

All questions are welcome. Thanks...

You have many mods that are not in STEP at all.

Do you use any texture replacers? If so, what texture size?

Quite often freezes are also caused by Papyrus script overload - if you use too many heavily scripted mods, the game engine will not cope with all those scripts running together and freeze.

It usually says on the mod page: 2K textures, 1K textures... If you have too big textures you will get to (in)famous 3.1 GB limit (see Gopher's recent video on Nexus main page). Saying that though, the reaching 3.1 GB limit usually crashes the game, rather than freezes it.

I am getting freezes on level loads and have another thread. This actually used to happen ALOT with the Xbox version of the game (happened so much I stopped using it).

found this on another forum. if i turn this on and play until I crash, anyway these logs could actually cause the freeze? anyway to just have the log run when I change levels?

[Papyrus]

fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0

bEnableLogging=1

bEnableTrace=1

bLoadDebugInformation=1

But only turn those options youtoo just posted if you're able to reproduce a crash in a specific spot and consistently as it will let you know or attempt to figure out which script etc caused your game to crash. Leaving it on all the time is just asking for more trouble.

played for a couple of hours last night mainly around whiterun and then up to 1 dungeon no crashes with debugging on.

@phazer11: problem with that is that CTDs and freezes tend to be intermittent. so how do I catch the problem? if i look at the log and see that the log may be causing the problem, I can turn it off. would be nice if there was a mod that would turn on logging when you change 'cells' or on zone loads or when memory use gets above a certain amount,etc...

one intersting thing I noticed is that hte first dragon that I killed by whiterun is gone. When I played on xbox version this one never left the game and was safe to store items in. Not sure if this was from a mod i added or an issue I caused myself. Shame though. its the best place to stash stuff since its a fast travel location and i dont have to level load once I get there.

Could someone just tell me all the addons that don't use scripts or cause freezing/ctd's and the most realistc ENB not listed in this guide. Gonna start off slowly, one mod by one.

First off make sure you follow PROPER Instructions here:

https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Neovalen/Skyrim_Revisited#Create_The_Skyrim_Revisited_Profile

Seeing your list I see at least half a dozen problems

Would be better to just clean and follow instructions to the letter than doing something half baked and complaining about it later.

Notes:

Anything I did not recognize I say disable. Except for armor mods which are usually not the source of problems.

Also: SkyRe and CCO do not play too well together.

After disabling and rerunning reproccer, coc to a testcell, run savegame cleaner and savegame script cleaner (PapyrusDataTransfer) or start a new game.

That's basically everything isn't it. What hair mod can I use? Vanilla hair is horrible.

Which lighting Mod should I use? Climates of Tamriel? Vanilla lighting is horrible as well.

Have a look at the previous link, you can see what mods are used in SR.

Apachii Hair for the player can stay, however not for the NPCs.

Climates of Tamriel can stay.

RLO is problematic and needs a bunch of compatibility patches but if you want it can stay. I suggest ELFX 0.2, Much stable and better.

AOF Beliveable hair I think the SR guide uses, but check it anyway.

Also get SkyrimPerformanceMonitor. If you hit the 3100 MB RAM, then odds are u are using high res textures and reach the skyrim 4GB limit. Other than that, Use TES5Edit to figure out which mods use scripts and start the troubleshoot with those. Skyrim Redone is very stable and uses scripts, but others may not be. Those on the link I gave, are all pretty much stable, except for Cloaks of Skyrim and Wet and Cold.
