Missing grounds suddenly (Skyrim AE 1.6.1170)

Question

Posted

Hi. As per title, I suddenly started to see some missing terrain in the game. Up until a few days ago everything was fine (I had casually captured some images a few days ago because I was very pleased).

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

Then, yesterday, suddenly during a game I started seeing missing terrain randomly. I realised it's a LOD problem, but I can't figure out how to fix it.  I have found other users who have the same problem as me, this for example is the same one that happened to me.

What could this depend on? I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the graphics mods and dyndolod itself, but the problem remains. The only thing I would be left to do is to perform a clean of the master files (but I don't know how to do that, I would surely ruin everything, then many people say it doesn't help). vortex does not report unresolved errors

First screenshot in the night, what is the supposed problem with LOD?
Second screenshot, in the day light, what is the supposed problem with LOD?

Link to some reddit image. It seems to show floating full models and/or a problem with terrain in the active cells. Terrain and references in the active cells are affected by plugins modifying these cells. Which plugins overwrite the cells record can be looked up with xEdit. To quickly find the cell, just look up the reference of a full model in it, which you get from clicking it with console open.

The LOD area starts beyond the active cells. See https://dyndolod.info/How-LOD-Works
Terrain LOD seems to be visible in all screenshots. DynDOLOD was not used or its output is not active.
It is unclear if xLODGen was used or not. No logs were provided. See https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum

Tnx for your message first. I probably expressed myself wrongly. I meant that out of nowhere, from the first two screenshots where you can see (as noted by you) that there is no problem with the lod, they started appearing missing ground for no apparent reason. I have now taken two images directly in the game:

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

?imw=5000&imh=5000&ima=fit&impolicy=Lett

xLODGen I did not actually use in the truth (because english not being my first language and i  struggled to understand all the steps). I don't even know how to provide logs honestly...  (but dyndolod worked fine anyway, at least until recently).  I had simply installed dyndolod and the requirements found on the nexus site as papyrus (only disabling the holycow plugin).for about a month everything worked fine.

I'll try to figure out how to use this xlodgen, from what you've written, it might be the solution to figure out what doesn't work. The problem is that all the tutorials I have found to  explain  steps by step what to do to install correctly dyndolod are done with another mod manager, but not with vortex which I use...

DynDOLOD does not affect terrain in the active cells or terrain LOD. See https://dyndolod.info/Official-DynDOLOD-Support-Forum#Rudimentary-Troubleshooting
xLODGen can be used to generate terrain LOD meshes and textures. It does not affect terrain in the active cells.

In any case, the two screenshots above seem to show terrain issues in the active cells and not a problem with terrain LOD. The terrain LOD can be seen being lowered, which is how the engine "hides" it under the full terrain in the active cells.

Terrain in the active cells is defined by LAND records. The cell record contain the LAND record also have XCL - Grid / Land Flags to hide terrain quads. Check the load order in xEdit to see which plugin(s) overwrite the cell record for an affected cell. Then check what plugin might be overwriting the LAND record.

Weird issues can also happen if exceeding the full plugin limit of 254 for all ESM + ESP plugins or having plugins with invalid object IDs.
