Bad looking shrubs/thickets after lod generation

Question

Posted

Some tips please how to fix that - photo enclosed. Never had problem like that. Using cathedral 3d pine shrubs but same result without it. Checked those shrubs with xedit, records not altered by anything else than skyrim.esm. Already tried running texgen/dyndolod like 4 times with different settings and always the same result.

Do not install any 3rd party tree LOD billboards. Use TexGen to generate all desired LOD billboards.

Do not install 3rd party LOD billboards. Use TexGen to generate them.
All LOD billboards files are in ..\Textures\Terrain\LODGen\*.*.

That means, if a mod contains them, hide/remove those billboards.

By default TexGen does not generate billboards for small shrubs and bushes.

Hi. Thanks. Checked everything, whole mod list. No third party lods. Tought I had it because I found NoTWL mod in my list with hidden plugin but there were some loose files in addition to main bsa. But no, thats not it becuse I disabled it and the same result after another lod generation. Here are my logs, can you check them? Thanks.

click download button next to log in button to download archive because looks like those files are too big to be displayed directly on the site

HD LODs Textures SE - install the DynDOLOD version. Overwrite any textures from DynDOLOD Resources SE but not the textures generated by TexGen. Adjust Max tile size on advanced options to match the downloaded resolution or use it to shrink higher resolution back down to lower resolution automatically while the atlas is created. Do not install / remove any tree LOD billboards. Use TexGen to generate all desired billboards.

Install the DynDOLOD version as explained, so the textures and billboards are loose files.

Those Tundra bushes are god awful no matter what mesh+texture you're using.  I installed a mod that blanks the full model meshes so they are removed in game though I am still having the bill boards added.  I should just set a rule for all shrubs and bushes? none for all levels and unchanged?  I image no shrubs and bushes have anything other than billboards?

Wasn't so much a question to solve an issue, I just didn't want them to have lods at all.

Primary cause though was custom texgen/dyndolod rules added DynDOLOD The Little Things were conflicting with my personal Dyndolod preset rules.  In my experience, Texgen bushes and shrubs billboards never look good regardless of meshes/textures installed... they are small enough objects to not really notice when they don't have lods, but minor bush/shrub billboards really standout when alongside 3d hybrid/hd trees in the scene.

My preferred solution is to just not have lods for em :) ... unless someone makes proper lod meshes for them!

Requested logs were not provided.

By default TexGen does not generate billboard textures for bushes and shrubs, so by default DynDOLOD does not generate LOD for them.

If you manually force billboard generation for shrubs and bushes with TexGen but the full models are blank, TexGen should still not generate any billboards because all pixels of the billboard textures would be transparent. Even if you somehow managed to generate fully transparent billboard textures, transparent LOD would still not be visible.
