Infinite loading screen when fast travelling from Solstheim to Skyrim

Question

Posted

Hi,

after installing all of the STEP mods and travelling to Solstheim I can't get back to Skyrim. The loading screen just loops and loops (I stopped after 15 minutes) and nothing happens.

Do you know if there is any known issue which could cause my problem?

Thanks very, very much!!!

Intel i5-3450 @ 3,1 GHz
HIS Radeon HD 7850 IceQ X Turbo 2GB @ 1000 - 1200 MHz

1. Having problems and using Mod Organizer (using Wrye Bash for Bashed patch only)

2. S.T.E.P + some more gameplay changing mods

3. Including disabled mods that gave me the trouble (at the top)

Oh and something else I would like to add. I extract all the BSA archives when installing mods with BSAs.

Small update:

Got more or less every detail covered in how to move the loading spot. Sadly it cannot just be moved into a random interior inside of the tamriel worldspace, since then it is not loaded yet. I have not yet found a way to actually get it too load but dunno if it will make much difference.

I can move the loadspace inside of windhelm city, since it has its own worldspace, but sadly that does not remove the ILS.

Gonna try to move the load marker to other locations in tamriel world space and see if that helps. Might also have to adjust some dialogue options or immersion get ruined but that should be simple enough to do. If it works then I am happy!

Another observation:

If I enable 3DNPC mod (one of the mods that gives me ILS on Solstheim -> Skyrim) when I am in Skyrim (I mean, enable mod and load the game in Skyrim) and then go to Solstheim - in this case I am able to go back to Skyrim. But if I spend some time in Solstheim (I cleared a couple of dungeons and done a couple of quests (this also involves saving and loading and restarting the game of course)) - I am no longer able to travel back.

1. I cannot reproduce the issue anymore

2. I Follow my guide, or rather myself whatever :)

3a.The mods I've individually and jointly tested for incompatibility w/ Wet and Cold are as follows:

Ini info, testing was done with shadows set to 4096, primary and secondary. And logging was on but didn't yield anything relevant.

The bug is making me so sad :(

It started reproducing again even without that modes i "figured" earlier. After that I removed more mods, and was able to travel to Skyrim. And now again! It's as if Skyrim wants me to uninstall all mods ;(

It is an inconsistent issue.  The more I come across reports of it, the more inconsistent the solutions.  This support the threading issue that Altimor is working on and MontyMM pointed out.  I would suggest leaving you mod list alone and COCing to an alternate location until we're able to solve this riddle.  I already invested 5-6 hours trying to fix it, maybe more.

Well I have a 50% solution... on my mod list.

Moving the maker away from the docks works... in certain locations.

I found that it works in dawnstar every time. Placing the marker on the ship there.

However that is rather immersion breaking since all quest info etc. says its at windhelm.

However I have not yet found any near windhelm where it works every time.

I have found locations where I can get a 50% success rate, hence you have to quit to menu and reload before going back. At least with my mod list.

I will try finding at more stable location, and once I do then just move the entire boat to that location, and make a new small dock there... at long as its in the general vicinity of windhelm then immersion is not too badly hurt.

There might be a few issues with realism, but any who have actually noticed the size of the boats relative to the amount of water etc. would have seen its impossible for them to even sail all the way into windhelm regardless. So that is of minor concern to me.

Now now Aiyen, you know Skyrim is COMPLETELY reflective of real life and if Bethesda say that a big boat can sail in a small creek; who are we to argue? :gnome:

JK of course!

I hope you find a stable location.  I would help you my friend, but I cannot replicate the issue anymore. :(  Kinda sad that Skyrim is stable when I want crashes and crashes when I want stable. It's the aliens I'm sure! :turned:

It seems like it may be something that the game has to load, like a script activator there on the docks. Do we know what takes place there? I know there are a few side quests in that area. Perhaps someone could test the issue by completing the quest for the argonian lady, and anything else in that immediate area. I wish I could be more specific, but it's been a while since I help argoninans for charity!

Also have we considered that this could be an LOD/texture/mesh loading issue.  Perhaps one we all share?  I know Vurt's Flora Overhaul causes ILSs in Markarth for SOME people without the 2048 tree lods for the corresponding version.  It did not cause that issue for me, which is in line with the general inconsistency of the issue here.  Some have it, some had it and lost it and some people can't replicate the issue at all.

Okay sad news!

I have tried to move the loading point to many locations etc. I even tried to move the entire boat etc. to dawnstar and a few other locations along the coast. The issue is the same. There is just a very limited success rate when going back to skyrim. At least if you go back and forth in one go.

The best cases are if you quit to menu or have a fresh loaded game before you try to get back... In that case then it might be a bit better if the load point is moved into another cell, but nothing conclusive, and frankly then it is getting a bit tiresome to deal with. I also have other projects going on atm. So for now I am just going to leave it alone unless someone has some splendid idea to try out.

Maybe bring it to Boris' attention? He seems to be pretty good at solving unsolvable issues. Maybe he could tweak the next ENB version to include a fix for this. Who knows. In the mean time, quitting to the main menu is fine with me. It only takes an extra minute.

Well I haven't received enough data from the people with the problem to formulate any hypothesis. Again if you don't have the problem then no need to answer my seven questions in post 91. Aiyen I'd be interested in your answers too please if you get a chance.

Well we all know that the Skyrim engine is terrible at dumping used or old data, so my theory is that when you load up your memory/vram/whatever with data from Solstheim and then try to travel back to Skyrim, it has to load all the Skyrim textures on top of the Solstheim textures and it overwhelms the engine, resulting in a freeze/ctd/ILS/whatever.

1: Can reproduce if I start a new game using coc to the docks, and then try to travel back and forth.

2: My own list. Every conflict etc. have been manually edited out hence why the list looks a little bit strange. I use some mods just for templates since they edit what I want to edit... hence I do not have to go to the CK to make my changes.

3: Here is the plugin text from MO.

4: Issue is there with and without ENB(oost). However a bit better success rate without. Less stuff to load I guess.

5: Heavily modifed CoT with patches, and extra stuff, etc. No conflicts in since they are all ironed out.

6: Yes.. ELFX base, with heavily modified Relighting Skyrim template for all the other cells that ELFX does not touch yet.

Hi all,

Interesting thread. I see that my mod is mentioned several times (SkyFalls and SkyMills), I also had several reports on my mod page, as well as people solving it with strange solutions (I think they were more placebo).

I am certain it is not the mod itself though as I cannot get this to happen on my machine (Skyrim revisited + custom) and most people don't have this issue. My mod also doesn't add any scripting.

I had some problems with ILS before. It was mainly the tweaks from Z-fighting and SDO in combination with uGirds 7. The funny thing though, I could predict when I would have an ILS, based on the picture in the loading screen. Things like the potion making table would cause an ILS, but many other not (such as the dark elf with daedric daggers). Very strange behavior, I was wondering if someone else had the same issue?. Since I lowered the z-fighting tweaks and stopped uGrids 7 I haven't had any problems. It was stpping uGrids 7 that made me make SkyFalls.
