Question

Here's a screenshot of that strange water glitch I mentioned in my other thread.  I know DynDOLOD doesn't touch the water but since using DynDOLOD.DLL I've been getting this glitch almost every time I play.  Could be a coincidence but I thought I'd ask your opinion on what could be happening here.

Thanks!

I have explained this many times: DynDOLOD copies the highest overwrites to create records in its own plugins. This includes the worldspace and cell records that define the default water in the world and the water in each cell specifically. If a mod that changes any of these is added later, it will have to be loaded after DynDOLOD plugins or you need to create new DynDOLOD plugins for the changed load order.

Did you check the WRLD, CELL and WATR records in xEdit seen in the screenshot to verify. Maybe there is a drastic mismatch between the terrain LOD water defined on the WRLD record and the water used for the loaded CELLs. There only can be one type of LOD water per world. Usually water in the loaded CELLs needs similar reflection properties. Someone more versed with water in the game might have more insight how this works.

The WRLD record defines the default WATR base record CELLs and terrain LOD water uses. Usually 00000018 for both.

CELL records can overwrite the default WATR base record.

Checking what plugins changed any of these records might reveal something.

DynDOLOD does not change any of these records, it just copies WRLD/CELL records from the winning plugins at the time of the generation. DynDOLOD does not change WATR base records. DynDOLOD does not change how reflections work or their settings.

I've had a good look and other than a few Unofficial Patch changes there aren't any edits made to water records.  I'd have expected the glitch to appear every time if there were changes to the records.  It seems to appear after a good amount of playtime.

A save/reload within the same session doesn't fix it but loading the save after restarting Skyrim does.  It behaves like the vanilla Whiterun LOD glitch that occurs from time to time.

I do wonder if this water glitch is a lesser known vanilla issue that has just reared it's head.  It just happens to have occurred while I was testing DynDOLOD.DLL.

When you use PapyrusUtil instead this does not happen?

Certainly appears that way.  40 hours of PapyrusUtil and I never got it.  I didn't see it in the 10 hours of playtime when I went back to PapyrusUtil after initially testing DynDOLOD.DLL.  Nothing else has changed in my load order.
