Question

Posted (edited)

Hi all!

I've been bothered by how it takes a horse-drawn carriage longer to lug me across Skyrim than it would be to walk... so I decided to change it with a mod!  But when my searches didn't turn up anything that struck my fancy, I did find folks saying you could just change the fFastTravelSpeedMult in the ini files or xEdit.

UNFORTUNATELY,  I've been unable to locate this variable in either one of these spots.  This variable isn't listed on any Google searches, nowhere to be found in the S.T.E.P. ini guide, and I couldn't find it in xEdit.

not complaining about the great resources here, just saying I couldn't find it

So what's the deal?  I can set the value in the console using setgs, but am I just more of a n00b than I thought?  In which ini file do I place this variable, Skyrim or SkyrimPrefs?  What section does it go in?

Thanks in advance!!

Also, apologies if this is the wrong forum.  I created an account only to ask this question, so if it's better placed elsewhere, please let me know.  I'll happily go wherever the answer is ^_^

I've done the EditorID search, but it always comes up blank...  Best I can find is using a search for fFast, which only returns fFastWalkInterpolationBetweenWalkAndRun

(Obviously) I'm not an xEdit expert, so is there something silly I'm overlooking?

It's a Game Setting record type. When you open xEdit, right click and pick Select None. Then just tick the STEP patch, hold shift, and click OK to quick load.

Go to the Game Setting for that plugin and there should only be a couple settings listed. One of them will be the fast travel setting. It's currently set to 4, but you can change it by right clicking the value. Make sure to save the plugin when you are done.

Ah, that's the problem.  I'm playing SSE and not using any patches of any variety (USLEEP included).

I guess I'll just have to set in via console every time I play...   Oh well, thanks for enlightening me!  I'm glad to know the record wasn't there, it wasn't just me missing something ^_^

You can just make a plugin with only that value. You'd have to copy any record to a new plugin in xEdit, then just delete that record. Right click the plugin and goto add record->GMST. Copy fFastTravelSpeedMult into the editorID and it will populate the record on it's own. From there you edit the value. Save the plugin and you're done.

THAT

WAS

AMAZING!!

What an easy thing to do!  I've used xEdit for my entire modding lifetime (about 2 yrs now), but never have I done anything that cool!  I typically just altered some other mod values, or merged mods per Michael of Gamerpoets.  Thanks for the tip!

I use this and I may end up adding it to Wrye Bash as a new Bashed Patch tweak in the future in v307 final or 308.

This is a super popular modification and it will save everyone a plugin slot.
