Outside Whiterun: https://youtu.be/d9SMnQ9t60M The black frame in the middle of the ENB section I didn't even notice until I uploaded the video. I use MSI Afterburner, these are raw .avi. I need to find a new editor as Movie Maker isn't apparently available for Windows 10. Inside Whiterun: https://youtu.be/cssIzZ90eOE Again with the black frame. Any idea what this is? Inside Jorrvaskr: https://youtu.be/dt8o_cdx4rc No black frame on that one. I'm losing roughly 5-10 FPS from recording alone. That's to be expected. But the ENB for some reason is *wrecking* my framerate.
-
Uploading videos, got it to run without the grass. For whatever reason the output for the LOD textures and meshes was in an odd space and my dumb butt wasn't installing them right. Fixed the CTD. I have three videos currently uploading from the Whiterun area. Outside headed north, inside the city and inside Jorrvaskr. All running 55-60 fps solid until I turn on the ENB. Then it drops to 45 most of the time, but the interior Jorrvaskr went down to 25-30. The DoF is kind of annoying as well, and this isn't playable. On top of it, on the exterior video you can see tree popping. It shouldn't be doing that.

I just tried to rerun the installer without the grass enabled but MO is arguing with me about missing grass.esp. Going to load in an older save from before the landscape mod and see what it looks like indoors. Annnd.... CTD. The missing masters list is even weirder on this one because it's stuff I haven't had installed since before I wiped everything so I think something got screwed up somewhere. I *may* know what's up.
-
So it runs. Was getting a solid 60 fps indoors and out. ENB ate 20-30 off that. The Enhanced Landscapes took another 10-15. This isn't playable at 20 fps. Regenerating LODs at a lower quality now. I have a sneaking suspicion it's a combination of the grass and the ENB, which is incredibly disappointing because that aesthetic is crucial to what I'm wanting to do.

Edit, fixed that one. I think

Well, I'm starting the install. Put the crash fixes in after I installed SKSE, didn't touch it's .ini. Sheson's fix is in. Going to install Papyrus and the rest of the fixes from STEP and see where it runs.
-
And that's how it was set up. I don't install anything I need to regularly fiddle with in Program Files. Let me clear something up: if I'm using Crash Fixes, I do *not* want to use Sheson's memory fix?
-
I'm leery on partitioning the drive. I don't like partitioning drives actively being used, stems from the days you couldn't do that without wiping the drive. That said, no, Steam is not installed in Program Files. c:\Steam My only Steam game is Skyrim, and it will continue to stay that way.
-
So start a fresh build, ignore that line when setting up the .ini stuff, install crash fixes and anything it requires, utilities and then start the load order install? Apologies for being mod stupid. You're great right now. <3
-
Can you explain please? You just spoke Greek. I'm also slightly drowsy so I may have to continue this in the morning, provided no one barges into my bedroom again. And do you think the current load list is salvageable or should I start from scratch again? Hoping to get this going soon before I get frustrated enough to lose interest in the game again. This is my first time actually trying to use ENB presets. Generally I don't try but I totally love that aesthetic. Always loved the gloomy, gritty stuff.
-
I'm using the latest binary. I'm not using Sheson's memory patch as I was under the impression it was no longer needed, same with Crash Fixes. If that value is set to True, its because a guide on here for either ENBoost or STEP .ini tweaks said to set it. I'm on my phone so I can't look at my PC for stuff. I'll look that value up in a moment. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory Can cause CTD with Sheson's memory patch, but I'm not using it.

That's funny, because that's the ENB recommended for that build, and that mod list. And it's worked just fine so far. https://i.imgur.com/rpIWgzY.jpg cart ride, while it was still working. Theoretically I can dump it. But it looks fine. Generally the compatibility reason is appearance. ENBs don't actually do anything to the game iirc. Postprocessing. (problem I have with ENB taking my screenshots is I have to open them in something else and save as .jpg or I end up with a mostly white picture )
-
I haven't gotten a single character anywhere. I dumped all my old saves, as I can't use them on a different build. Mod dependencies and scripts and such. What changes to 10 do you suggest? Do keep in mind I have as much of the telemetry and data collection off as I can, and I have a few third party tools to do it with, just in case that has an effect on it. I'm thinking of just installing the landscape, the weather/fog, character tweaks from STEP(including the skeleton), the armor/weapon textures and de-LARP(god I can't go back to vanilla weapons... they look awful), SKYUI, and fixes and such, the ENB. As much as I love SFO, I think it's part of my problem. I can always try to add it after and see what the hit looks like. I have a short list of "no compromises" mods I use in all of my games. aMidianBorns's armor/weapon texures A Quality Map Convenient Horses Climates of Tamriel SkyUI KS Hairdos XCE Racemenu/precache killer Auto Unequip Ammo Hide Helmet I'm also curious as to the performance hit(or lack thereof) of the sound/music replacements. If those aren't bad I can put all those in, too. My VRAM is always running at capacity. My system RAM I generally had a gig or so left of, but it's harder for me to check now that I don't have a second monitor to watch my stuff in realtime.

Smooth, no. Framerate was kind of trash. Framerate was also kind of trash(at least compared to what I'm used to) before the upgrade. This install has persisted since before I updated to 10. It ran flawless under 7 Ultimate, and then when I updated to 10, it ran flawless. I then proceeded to install STEP, and well, if you look at my post history you'll notice I had problems with that too at first. Eventually I got it running and it ran well, but I was getting about 45 fps and as one that records for YouTube, that's unacceptable. Then I had a brilliant idea for another video and... Yeah. https://youtu.be/RO5mHASc8us That was the STEP build after I installed it and managed to get it running. It's running on this same machine on Windows 10. Video quality is kind of crap(still unsure why I encoded it in 720p) but I was averaging 40-50 fps. I ended up installing: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/68782/? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12454/? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24460/? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24810/? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24828/? this is the ENB preset I'm using At this point, on a new character the game ran pretty decently framerate wise. Once I got to Riverwood and headed over towards Whiterun I noticed issues. https://i.imgur.com/dTJGgEo.jpg That was the only screenshot I got before I couldn't get back in game. I had tree billboards popping like mad and that area I circled is supposed to be a hill. As you can see, the terrain is missing. There were trees floating in midair just before I got that shot. The STEP build I ran before I was pushing the limits of my card. I can't understand why either when it should have been able to run just fine. Adding the ENB and landscape on top of it was probably *way* too much, but I figured if I pare down the mesh mods and reduce the texture quality/sizes I'd be ok. Something just isn't right. I'm honestly tempted to just start from scratch again. Install the fixes, patches, utilities, landscape, weather, character enhancements(skeletons, XCE, etc) and aMidianBorn textures and say screw the rest of it. That aesthetic is what I'm wanting right now and I can't get it with the rest of the stuff. I pulled out the creature updates, the mesh updates, most of the texture updates. SkyMills and SkyFalls is gone. It's maddening. I'd like to reiterate: My current load order was done from scratch. I've completely redone my entire mod install three times now. I didn't just pull crap out of an existing STEP install. I selected the mods in the load order I posted out of the STEP list and followed the guide otherwise. .ini tweaks, FNIS and DynDOLOD generation. Bashed patch. All of that. I just did not install the full STEP install. Just to make sure I was clear on that. Ripping mods out of an established set up can cause problems.

No. I have 145 GB free on this SSD though. If that was the problem I'd hope I knew it.
-
Yes and yes. Unfortunately for both. I do not have a second SSD. If I ran Skyrim off my old crappy HDDs I'd be waiting half an hour per load screen. A second SSD is not in the budget. It's the only game actually installed on it as a side note. Everything else is on the rickety HDD.

Crap I meant to post those. https://wiki.step-project.com/User:Sakiri/SystemSpecs

As I mentioned in another thread, I was trying to modify my STEP install to add Enhanced Landscapes and run the Dark Fantasy set. Had an idea based off a video by Brodual. Well.. this is what happened. https://youtu.be/paFMgr5W_oU Framerate is trash, lagging so bad my horse decided he needed to take a flight somewhere, and that popping. Disabling the ENB(Bleak) helped the framerate, but not the popping. Framerate was a tiny bit worse than normal because I was recording. In the end, I ended up completely ripping out everything and starting with a pristine Vanilla install. Reinstalled a bunch of mods, ignoring most of the mesh and texture updates outside the character ones from STEP and aMidianBorn's armor/weapon textures, and weapon meshes. But anyways, it all loaded nicely the first time, got a character in game and going, but once I got out of Helgen, I hit up Riverwood and saved. Saving a new character is a mistake. Every single time I've attempted to test this build, a brand new game results in a fairly long load time to the cart ride(which I expect) but then everything is good until I save and exit to desktop. If I try to reload that save, I get ILS. Load order: Skyrim.ini: skyrimprefs.ini: enblocal.ini: Before, while I was still loaded into the game, my distant terrain was.. well, missing and popping in. I had trees floating in the air, had to get closer to get the ground to render. I had a STEP core install running just fine without an ENB before, though my framerate wasn't completely smooth. I can't imagine ENB causing *this* much of a performance hit, and it doesn't explain why I'm sitting at ILS. At this rate, I'm tempted to just say screw it, play a vanilla install, because I've got a machinima project this noncooperating game is holding up. I've been trying to get this particular set up working for two days. I'm pretty much at a loss, and have a feeling if this is how big of a problem a modded game is, my PC won't run Special Edition.

My install is a mess right now and I'm not sure there's a salvage to it. In fact, I'm tempted to dump it entirely. I attempted to tweak the STEP install a bit and it got to the point where it was unplayable. Lag lag lag lag crappy framerates, etc. That was why I wanted to try it on a fresh profile with different LODs to see if lowering the quality of those helped. Nope. Tried to reinstall it all getting rid of some of the mesh mods in an attempt to fix my framerate. Nope. So I went and restarted an install. Whole new freaking install. Didn't install some of the mesh mods or higher res textures. Used low settings on DynDLOD(I need to use it for Enhanced Landscapes, which is what I'm trying to install and get running) but now I have ILS. Going to open a new thread and see if you guys can't help me figure that out(again). I've been messing with this thing for two days now and it's making my head hurt. This is some useful information however, so I'll +1 that. It'll come in handy later.

Long story shore, I have a STEP Core setup on a profile and I'm trying to make another one based off Brodual's Dark Fantasy video(https://youtu.be/gr8XlcFY57U). I'm installing everything but the last three on his list in the comments. The Dark Fantasy Overhaul was moved to Enhanced Landscapes. Enhanced Landscapes requires DynDOLOD and I need to regenerate some stuff but I'm not exactly sure how to do this with an existing build because if I disable some of the LOD patches in MO it gives me crap about dependencies. I also don't know what to do about the bashed patch. I don't know if I still have the original files I used when I installed DynDOLOD in the first place, I had a bad upgrade to 10 and lost a lot of files. I'd copied my MO folders and the like over but I don't think I had the installer saved. So I'm not sure how to go about doing this as I'm kind of an idiot with modding. I don't want to screw up my existing STEP install because redownloading 13 GB of stuff isn't an option, Comcast will pitch a fit. Including STEP load order(I don't have the ENB or Enhanced Landscapes installed yet):

I'm not running any explicit horse texture mods. My only horse mod is Convenient Horses, which doesn't affect textures. However, one of the first things I noticed when I loaded up STEP was that the Whiterun horse turned black. Actually black, and not the half hearted dark brown that they called "black". This isn't a problem I'm just curious as to which mod did it because someone in my Dead is Dead forum asked which mod did it and I can't tell him because I don't know!

I love you guys. Thanks! <3

So I found a mod on Nexus (mod used loosely here, it's an animation "fix") that switches Khajiit tail animations(https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51324/?) and I can't for the life of me figure out how to install this with MO. NMM has the option to insert files but I'm not seeing anything like it with MO. I also cannot find the directory manually to drop them in there. This isn't a plugin file, which is probably why I'm having issues. It's a "drop this folder into the data/meshes" thing. Help?

Aye, I keep a backup of MO over on my D:\ drive and just moved it back to C. <3 from a brain frazzled person >< -
Salvaging STEP post win 10 upgrade...
Sakiri replied to Sakiri's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Dude, I love you. I've been having a nightmare with this crap for most of the past week and really should have thought of that my brain's just not here. I don't remember why I didn't have DX9. You'd think 12 would be backwards compatible. o.o
