What direction is SR going in
perkymcgiggles replied to Razorsedge877's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
How reliable is MO when it comes detecting conflicts? Meaning, if MO is telling me that a certain mod should really load after another mod should I just do it, despite the SR:LE guide insinuating otherwise? -
General Support Thread

I'm getting a pretty consistent CTD whenever I fast travel or change between interior/exterior cells. It doesn't happen the first time, it takes a few times before the game will just crash on me. It also doesn't seem to matter where I'm at either, I can reload my last save then go to where I was going before it crashed and everything will load just fine... but over time it will crash, and it's always on a cell change (ie, I've never crashed just walking around, it's always when going into a interior space or leaving an interior space to an exterior one or vice versa). Something I've noticed to is sometimes I can see what's on "the other side" before it crashes, which is weird to me. You think that would be causing the problem? What I mean by that is I'll see where I fast traveled to for a split second before I'm looking at my desktop. I've followed the guide (mostly) to the letter. I'm actually on my second time through it, as the first one I think I missed a step or two and decided to start from scratch to prevent issues. What I haven't done is installed a few mods, mods that I felt were script heavy to prevent crashing. I've also tried DDSopting some of the texture mods to 1k in hopes to prevent crashing... I will say that my game runs flawlessly when I'm not CTDing. I'm getting a steady 60FPS and it looks gorgeous, it's just these CTDs are taking their toll on me. If there was an option to use ENB, I would choose the non-ENB option), instead I'm using it solely for the memory options it provides. I would like to note that I was experiencing crashing issues with and without the use of ENB. I installed it with the memory options enabled because I thought it might help me, but so far it hasn't. It seems to have helped, but doesn't seem to be a fix for me. Other things I haven't installed are Climates of Tamriel, mainly because I was experiencing performance issues with it. So all patches or CoT options I never used. However, I did replace it with another climate mod I found called Pure Weather. During my testing phase I never experienced issues with the Pure Weather mod so I don't think that's the cause, also because I will crash going into interior cells which makes me feel it's not the weather mod. I also skipped out on Realistic Room Rental, Better Fast Travel, NPC Knockout, JaySuS Swords, OBIS, FCO, Bring out your dead, convenient horses, skyfalls and skymills, and all the modified and expanded quest mods as I didn't feel it was worth the added risk for CTD by using them. Other than that, I have followed the guide, including all .ini edits. Any thoughts on where I can check to solve these CTD issues? EDIT: So I've turned on EVGA's precision utility and enabled it to monitor memory usage and I'm noticing that once I go above 2GB vram the game will just drop. I think I remember reading somewhere that the game gets very unstable once it gets passed 1.8GB, but I can't remember where I read that from. My question is, what can I do about it IF this is what is causing me my issues? None of my textures are above 1k except for SRO, and the guide I feel is more VRAM intensive than what I did. How on earth can anyone run 2k or even 4k textures if the game will kill itself over 2GB vram usage? It makes me wonder if that is the cause or just coincidence? EDIT 2: OK, so watching my memory usage more closely I can see that while it will go up, it will never drop. An example of this is I was in an interior cell sitting at 1400MB, went into the next room (through a cell change) and it jumped to 1500MB, then I went back into the previous room but the VRAM never dropped, it remained at 1500MB~. I go exterior to the outside and it jumps to 2200MB, I go back inside to the same exact room I originally started out with 1400MB and it is still at 2200MB~, then the game crashes shortly after. Aside from starting over (which I really don't want to do if I don't have to) what can be done about this?? Has anyone encountered this type of problem before? EDIT 3: This is becoming more like a live journal than a post, but I wanted to report what I found in hopes someone knows what I'm dealing with! I used Skyrim Performance Monitor for a better picture and this is what I got from the few minutes I played it before I CTD: The maximum vram usage is under my total vram, and I'm not even coming close to the 3.1GB limit the engine possesses... so I'm kind of at a loss. It seems the game just likes to crash right around this limit. I tried starting a new game and saw vram usage upwards of 2700MB and it seemed to take it just fine! So I don't know! What's happening?! Thanks! Sidenote: Other than that I really like this guide. The mods it adds in and the detail of explanation is great. I found it oddly satisfying cleaning up vanilla files, optimizing textures, and getting the base game as humanly stable as possible before piling on a bunch of stuff. The game looks great, even without ENB and I'm having a blast playing it (level 15 so far). If it weren't for these CTDs I'd probably be lost in the game all day. -
Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
perkymcgiggles replied to perkymcgiggles's question in Mod Organizer Support
Something I also found out is that the BOSS log that MO generates is located in a different directory than the normal BOSS log. If you go into overwrite > BOSS > Skyrim you will see a BOSSlog.html... that is the one that is relevant to your MO install. The one that kept popping up was showing me the original BOSSlog.html with the vanilla ESMs/ESPs located in the default Data directory. It's likely that this was tripping me up, as any change I made I never saw until I looked in the BOSSlog.html that resides within the MO folders. Just thought I'd forward this information along just in case it helps someone in the future. :) -
What's a good strategy for installing them via MO?
-
I ran into this exact issue and solved it by removing Dual Sheath Redux, Maximum Skeleton, and New Idles. I'm not exactly sure which one was causing it, but considering they are kind of all dependent on each other I just went ahead and removed all of them. I'm assuming there is an error with the way the patcher(s) are working with MO. I added both New Idles and Dual Sheath Redux patchers to MO and ran them both successfully but it didn't make a difference so I don't know. These aren't very important mods for me so I don't really care, but one of those mods (or all of them) are causing OP's issue.

Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
perkymcgiggles replied to perkymcgiggles's question in Mod Organizer Support
Hey everyone, So good news is I got it working. Bad news is I have no idea what I changed. Sorry potential/future Google users, I'll try and give as much information as possible to help others, but I'm really at a loss. Here is how I have my Mod Organizer set up: I never changed any of the default settings. I created its own folder in the Skyrim Data directory called 'ModOrganizer' and dragged all the files inside it and I launch the utility from that location. Here is how that looked: Originally, I had BOSS installed in a separate folder titled 'BOSS' inside the 'ModOrganizer' folder. When added to MO, I pointed the binary to the Boss.exe from within that directory and it wasn't working, hence why I created this thread. Then, after that I tried placing it in several different places. I tried just moving all the BOSS files and folders inside the Skyrim Data folder. I then pointed MO to use both the Boss.exe and Boss GUI.exe (at different times) from that directory. That still wasn't working. I then put it in the default Skyrim folder, and that wasn't working either. So here is the last thing I did, and since doing it it has been working! I created a folder called 'BOSS' within the Skyrim Data folder, dragged all the BOSS files in there. I then configured MO to point to the BOSS.exe within that file and it is now working! Proof: As you can see, it is now detecting all the ESPs it wasn't before. Not sure why it was so picky up the folder structure. I can't think of a single reason why the program needed it setup a certain way since all it needs is access to the binary .exe files, but whatever. I guess that is why I'm not a programmer. For those curious, this is what my Data folder looks like: I'd like to thank you all so much for your time and responses to this. I hope me posting my experience will help someone else in the future so it isn't a total waste. Here's to hoping to no more hiccups while using STEP! :P -
Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
perkymcgiggles replied to perkymcgiggles's question in Mod Organizer Support
I tried using Boss GUI.exe after you mentioned it the first time with no different results. I just tried reinstalling BOSS again, this time with the installer instead of the archive. It defaulted to the Data folder again, and using Boss GUI.exe in MO it still does not detect the ESPs active within MO. :( Not sure where I went wrong. I don't feel I've done hardly anything other than install MO and BOSS on a fresh Skyrim install. -
Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
perkymcgiggles replied to perkymcgiggles's question in Mod Organizer Support
Would you mind explaining how the file structure you are using looks like? It's not in Program Files, Steam is installed on a separate games drive as my main OS uses a SSD. Also, for those who have it working, did you change any MO settings? I understand MO keeps the mods you install seperate from the Data directory. This would explain why BOSS isn't seeing them, is there a way to have the files just be put in my Data directory and just avoid this whole mess? -
Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS

I haven't gotten to messing with BSAs yet, I'll deal with them later. And yes, BOSS shows up along side Skyrim and SKSE in that drop down menu and launches successfully, it just organizes my Data directory and not the MO mods. -

Default steam directory, except I have Steam located on a separate drive than my OS. I've placed it in many places, I was under the impression it didn't really matter. Should it be somewhere else? -

Problem with Skyrim Mod Organizer and BOSS
perkymcgiggles posted a question in Mod Organizer Support
Hello everyone, So I'm having fun playing with Mod Organizer. It's a great utility, and makes it super easy. The only draw back (and it's a big draw back) is that it does not organize my ESMs/ESPs. I've added Boss.exe as the binary, and it successfully launches, but it does not display any of the mods Mod Organizer is managing, and instead only shows the default Skyrim and DLC files. My question is, how can I get this working properly? If I can get this problem solved I think it'll be smooth sailing from then on, but if I can't get BOSS to order my mods then I might as well try something other than Mod Organizer. Thank you!
