  1. Is there any reason why I can't just mod Skyrim VR according to the STEP guide and have it work? Now that there's a SKSE VR it makes me wonder. Thank you.
  2. Hello, I want to install STEP on my LE rather than the SE. While reading the guide I noticed in the standard cleaning instructions that they call for opening the SE data directory. This gives me a couple of questions; 1. Do I just need to go ahead and install STEP to the SE? I thought that I couldn't because mods need to be ported. 2. Do I need to ignore this part of the cleaning guide if installing to the LE? 3. Do I follow the guides cleaning instructions but open the SE data folder instead? Thank you
  3. Howdy; sorry to be clogging up the board with all these questions, but I do appreciate your patience and help. I only have 1 question this time: Can anyone explain how Wrye Bash can tell me that I am missing some Realistic Water 2, Falskaar, and CCO masters? Each of these mods are fully installed and each has .esp/m's showing up, ticked, in the right pane of MO. I don't get it. Thank you
  4. @Greg Thank you for your reply. I am following the 2.2.9.2. guide (linked from Nexus) and it runs very smoothly, considering I'm on a laptop. Are you suggesting that I remove Falskaar and Wyrmstooth? I wouldn't mind but I'm concerned about what effects may be caused by the fact that I chose options for those for a couple of STEP mods while installing from the guide - these are the only 2 extra mods I have. Also, I have the FO4Edit linked directly from the guide. as is my DynDOLOD.
  5. Thank you for your replies... ...I am following STEP 2.2.9.2; I have all the componants of Legendary, but I bought them as each was released. Regarding the rest; All the Realistic Water 2 .esps are ticked. Here's something that may be helpful, though; I created a new profile, and when I ran DSR patch in it, it said that the Crafting .esp was missing, bit didn't say anything about Realistic Water 2! It has left me very confused.
  6. Howdy; am virtually finished but am having a couple irritating problems; a) During DynDOLOD; TES5Edit stops running, yielding an error reading 'An error occurred while loading modules. Editing is disabled. Check the message log and correct the error.' I do not know how to do this. b) Dual Sheathe Redux; problem here reads 'Realistic Waters Two - Falskaar.esp has some missing masters: RealisticWater2.esp' then it tells me to activate and try again. Falskaar and Wyrmstooth are the only nonSTEP mods I added, and I made sure to tick their options in the Realistic Waters 2 installation. Checking left-pane of MO I see that all mods are checked (except those Wrye Bash unchecked) so I don't know how to solve this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Howdy; I forgot to make a copy of Hearthfires.esm and didn't realize it until mid-cleaning. After exiting out I find that there is no Hearthfires.esm in my data folder any longer, so I am validating files to reacquire it: My question is - do I need to re-clean my Update.esm and my Dawnguard.esm? Thank you
  8. nevermind thanks for your help
  9. I may be missing something here...I understand that I apply all mods in guide-mandated order, but I am confused as to the purpose of the installers linked on Nexus, as well as when/if, in the process, to use them.
  10. I don't understand how to use these: Do I... a) download/install all mods from guide that I want and then install this (saw it's fomod) b) does it replace the need to download the mods listed in the credits, or c) am I completely misunderstanding the purpose/use of the installer? I have completely installed STEP various times over the years but this is the first time that the installers have been available at the same time, and I assume that it's purpose is to make things easier, so I appreciate any help you can bring to bear.
  11. Thanks for the insights. I've got my installation complete and it kis running superbly. I am, however, unable to solve the Dual Wield dilemma that has been the bane of so many installls. I have searched the forums and the net in general, and i have tried the fixes that I have been able to find, yet no matter what I try I get either the missing masters warning, the Dual Wield must be installed warning, or the game tells me that the mod needs to be installed and activated. I am certain that I followed the STEP guide accurately (in general; but, specifically as regards the Patches section). So if I can get some help with that, my installation should be complete and perfect.
  12. I appreciate your attention to the dilemmas I've been having, z; you've been at this for a longtime and that comes through in your dedication. It's not that the Steam directory issue was something that I ignored so much as it being a matter of having many games already installed in that default location; generally speaking it's not an issue. I kept meaning to mention that I'm on Windows 10, and I wonder if that complicates matters; i know that I have noticed a few more permission issues than I have with previous Windows iterations. At any rate, all is going swimmingly now; I have completed through the conflicting graphics section, and all is smooth like butter. However, in the interest of not cluttering other threads I do have a couple more questions, only one is specifically related to MO... - do I need to create a mod from overwrite everytime I run FNIS. If yes, do I place it right below FNIS (which I put at very top right behind SKSE). Also, if yes to all that, do I delete the previous overwrite mod so that there is always only 1 for FNIS? - in Fixes section, STEP texture pack didn't manifest a bsa in right pane archives - thus no unticking possible. Also, when I installed it again down the list, I told it to merge - was that right? - am wondering why Improved Closed Face didn't ask if I wanted to merge anyway; thanks for all interest and help.
  13. I'm sorry to keep adding to this, but I don't want you to waste time on re/solved issues: LOOT is working normally now, after running the game with the reordered list - hope it holds.
  14. Okay: All is good regarding the specific problem(s) I had when posting yesterday, but I have a new problem to posit; I'm going to post it here, although it concerns LOOT (partially as it interacts with MO, however) as an attempt to limit post creation. Anyhoo; now that I have my Steam located in my C: directory, rather than x86, LOOT doesn't want to recognize my new Skyrim location. I uninstalled it (from the installation from pre-move) and reinstalled/redirected thru MO, yet it still won't work properly. When I run it I get a screen that asks me which game I want to run, and when I delete the alternatives (none of which I have installed anyway), it does not apparently default to Skyrim. Also, it insists that the Skyrim directory is still the original x86 location. I say 'apparently' and 'properly' because I noticed that when I closed LOOT, the load order in the MO left pane changed (which never happened when in x86), and I ran the game (midway thru Fixes install section) and all seems to run well. Although it seems to be functioning, I can't peruse any results or info as I ought to be able to; any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
  15. another update: moving Steam from x86 to C: got everything working! No idea if it will hold true when I'm done STEPpin', and there's alot of shortcuts etc. to fix, but for now, I'm excited.
  16. quick update: I just tried using the arguement '-forcesteamloader' cuz I saw it mentioned in a post (i think somewhere on these forums) concerning this issue - it didn't work.
  17. Now I'm completely flummoxed. My re-install has been one of painstaking attention to detail: Before doing anything STEPwise I generated my .ini files and carefully configured them when directed, I cleaned the update .esm, and arranged the left-hand pane as directed, and I completed the 2.C Extender section. At this point I attempted to run the game through SKSE in MO: First-it wants to say that Steam is not open, and would I like it to open it for me; Steam was in fact open - some Googling brought me to posts suggesting that this would be solved by closing Steam and letting MO do it's opening thang. Fine, that worked. However, now the SKSE loader opens the Steam Skyrim Launcher, which fills me with trepidation because I can't figure out why it is doing this (this ain't my first STEP rodeo, though it's been a long time since I rode) when it never has before, bar none. Again, I Googled and found that others have experienced this, but found no useful suggestions, unless possibly moving all of Steam out of program files might work? On the other hand, when I went ahead and launched through the Steam Skyrim launcher, the saves that magically reappeared (I'd deleted them, already) loaded without CTD; I take this as a personal insult from a hateful and petulant universe. ...as an afterthought, did launching through the Steam Skyrim launcher rewrite my STEP-configured .ini's?
  18. Screw it! I'm completely uninstalling and going to start from scratch. I restarted w/ all mods deactivated; I restarted on default profile; I deleted both skyrim.prefs and the skyrim.ini. Reloads of any previous save crashed; loads of new saves crashed. Plus, besides the collective .ini files not regenerating upon starting a brand new game, I'd swear that I could detect better textures than I remember the vanilla game having (remember I said that I had done a complete STEP install this last weekend); this really should not be possible, as earlier I uninstalled MO and allowed the deletion of all related data. I even searched through the appdata folders and the documents folders, etc. I'm going to try and scour all traces of Skyrim from my system (save for the downloaded mods, thank god) and try over from the get-go. Thank you for your help; I'll post back if I need help or if I figure out what happened. I may be asking for help regarding hiding files in MO, or setting meta-data in LOOT.
  19. I'm gonna do it. Thanks for the quick reply.
  20. Howdy all; I am returning from a lengthy sabbatical and have run into difficulties. I'll keep it brief; - I'm religiously following the guide, yet I find that my game wants to crash when (either/or/and) saving (through sleeping in bed), loading a save in new session, or making environmental transitions (into/out of buildings, etc.) -This is happening currently, though I have stopped installations at Enchantment Reload fix -I installed all of STEP Extended, as per guide, this last weekend and experienced the same difficulties (CTDs) -I cannot get past the idea that it may have something to do with LOOT, which never seems to change any ordering at all. When last I played BOSS was all the rage and I experienced no difficulties there; I am trying to get uo to speed with LOOT, so pleas don't think I'm trying to parasite my way through on your wisdom alone. -I had wondered if (in previous install last weekend) it may have had to do with the meta-data info, which I have no idea what to do with -I had also wondered if the 'hide files' requirement was involved, as I was deleting these files before it occured to me that they might still be functioning even though hidden (don't understand how to hide files in MO) It should be noted, though, that at this point in my re-installation I have not yet been instructed to hide files, and the mod after Enchantment Reload fix (Enhabced Lighting for ENB-Lite) is the first that requires meta-data from me, so I fail to see any relevence to the problem from these directions. I hope that my question is comprehensive enough without being overly broad. Obviously, the dilemma is one of functionality/stability. Thank you.
  21. Use a single 4g 670; I'm running full STEP plus another 50ish mods and have zero stutter/freeze. Other relevant specs would be Windows 7 64 bit w/ i3770, but I got just as good results w/ 4 core 2.9GHz while running this card.
  22. It's mods like this that become part of my permanent set-up, even though I rarely experience them in-world. Does anyone remember the mod for Oblivion that just added a portrait of the then head of the Mormon church? I loved that mod, though I'm not Mormon (I'm not even Christian). I also thoroughly enjoy the posh mudcrab mod for Skyrim; it's exciting to know that somewhere out there is a book that I have yet to find which explains how mudcrabs wearing top-hats and monocles fit into the lore.
  23. Might not, strictly, be a STEP question, but I've come to accept this community as infinitly more trustworthy, and reliable, than any other. It's a small problem, really: I got done experimenting with Wrye Bash installed mods on top out a pristine 2.2a STEP install, and 1st person view is acting screwy. Essentially, alll works well until I want to switch from 3rd to 1st; then my screen just flashes to 1st-real quick-then flashes back to 3rd. I suspect there's a basic, easy, fix-though I don't know what it is; maybe someone here does? ...anyway; thank you. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
  24. ...okay-I have news germane to my specific earlier participation w/in this thread; there may be some use to the overall topic as well... ...anyhoo: I finally got my Galaxy GTX 670 GC 4GB DDR5 from Best Buy's online site; please note-this ain't no plug for the corporate/franchise modality---I have a credit card w/this store, which I felt would help me when rationalizing the purchase to my wife---for $476. ---(before going further I would like to thank the person who linked me the address where to get adapters, though what I needed shipped w/my purchase)--- ...so, having got through the prelude, the rest of this will be fairly short. Amazing! It's smoother than playing Morrowind on its lowest settings ever was for me. ...please note: I am using Windows 7 64-bit, 4-core 2.9 GHz, w/ 4GB RAM; fairly modest system! It must be admitted that I can no longer say w/certainty which iteration of STEP I tested this on-because I have been away too long, and am not good enough at labeling my back-ups; however, I believe my test-version was an augmented STEP 2.1 w/ saves from when that version was current. Even if I am slightly incorrect about the version, I can tell you that I just played for almost 2 hours w/ absolutely 0-lag, and 0-CTDs! I tested by riding/running around/into Whiterun; running/riding through full 24hr. cycles in the wilderness, as well as in the Giant cave east of Riften, and picking a fight in Riften castle(in God mode, so as to survive long enough to get large numbers of combatants); again I say-Huzzah!!! ...anyway, I'm tired and going to bed: I just wanted to say that this card seems, preliminarily, awesome: I think that I will be able to maximize STEPpy Skyrim most fully... ...though I will let you all know whichever way it goes. Thank you.
  25. I just bought a 670 4GB for $476 from Best Buy online: I think my motherboard fits it-but I might be wrong. The only problem might be the 'additional requirement' of a particular 'pin count' regarding an adaptor off the power supply. However, I'm not too savvy, do there might be complications I don't know see, yet.
