Skyrim Revisited Pre-Release Feedback

Sigh: ugrids=5 is the only way to ensure decent stability, resulting in myopic prettiness. Now I need to figure out how to stop textures from popping in. By the looks of things, most of my recent ctds have been more RAM related than VRAM, which is sad. My skyrim doesn't seem to like anything above 3.1-3.2 GB of RAM. VRAM usage is far lower than tat. @Neovalen - Others have mentioned the problem when running piles of mods. I refused to listen. However, ugrids=5 may me worth mentioning in the SkyRev guide to minimise unnecessary ******tery. The stability is awesome. Now I'm going to see if I can add SRO to SkyHD & Serious. -

@statmonster Using ADEC and the original feminine running/dash mod from xp32 - I changed the load order, overwritten other run animations and tried all sorts of things. FNIS just ignores the mod. In contrast, it recognises the acrobatic jump mod without any problems. -

For some reason I simply cannot get the Feminine Running & Dash (Momo dash) animations to work. FNIS simply ignores them. -

@ Jason - Using notepad++ you can open the papyrus log and notepad will prompt you to refresh when it is updated (which can be annoying, btw) @Aiyen - With 16 GB high-performance RAM running, cpu at 4 GHZ and a GTX 680 with 4 GB ram I should have the necessary performance reserves. My last iteration of SkyRev rarely used more than 3 GB VRAM although RAM usage often rose to roughly 3.2 GB. Nevertheless ctds every 15 minutes were a constant problem. -

@ Aiyen & Lauren. Thx for the heads up. Once I'm finished with the complete reinstall I'll see if I can get rid of the constant ctds. DDSOpt question: When using hi-res textures, restrict to 2048 and normals to 1024 right? -

@Neovalen "Insanity Sorry AV Package" should be "Insanity Sorrow AV Package" :) Freud is your Freund. Doing a complete SR reinstall and ddsopt on Sky HD, SRO, Serious HD and Flora Overhaul. Not sure whether to include TreesHD or not. -

Thanks for the feedback. Changing ugrids has no effect on the ctds in these cases - I have experimented with approaching Ivarstead and quick travelling from Markarth to Riften - Approaching ivarstead works with flora overhaul basic (ugrids 5 & 7) but not with any of the full SFO version. - Quick travel Markarth - Riften hangs the game with any version of SFO (basic & full) and any ugrids. - Quick travel Markarth - Riften works without SFO and ugrids 5, 7 & 9. Using the optional 2048 LODs appears to have solved the problem. -

@Kelmych: I ran ddsopt to halve the size of the normals. However, this had no effect on the stability issues. Even with the normal flory overhaul mods VRAM now stays below 3000 having run ddsopt on Skyrim HD and Serious HD to shrink the normals. I experimented with changing ugridstoload settings from 5 to 7 with various mod combinations - this has also made no difference. Strange. I think I'm going to do some sequential stress testing by removing other mods which make graphics changes. -

I have finally found the source of my most recent ctds: Skyrim Flora Overhaul - running either 1.79e, the summer edition 1.80 or summer edition after ddsopt all result in frequent crashes. Running 1.81a basic is far more stable. VRAM is sitting happily at 2600 -2800. Now I have no idea how to fix that. -

Having fixed the last ctd problem (was caused by an alternative adec skeleton) I've discovered that SRO (2048 version) is causing a ctd when approaching windhaven when approaching the big bridge from the west. Hmmm. -

Updated everying, now running a 4GB GTX680 game starts normally without Alternate Start (will probably crash at character creation). I get a CTD when clicking on the bed when using alternate start or loading the "create player" save (from Helgren). I'm not using apache hair and my existing pre-dragonborn / updated SkyRe saves load and run fine. Just the character creation seems to cause unhappiness. Hmmm... It looks like the problem is with one of the ADEC body / armor mods. Joy. -

We're all eagerly awaiting that too. PS: I found the hairstyle that I was looking for in one of the the Oblivion hair mods. Now I'm happy and Skyrim is finally stable. OMG - I'm actually PLAYING the game. -

I can't figure out why apachii sky hair causes the game to hang. Using alternative start: 1. - Changing race to female causes the game to CTD. 2. Using the "start as female" mod solves this problem. However the game hangs when I attempt to leave Breezehome after using the bed. Hmmm. -

@PCG4m3r - Great work! But holy freakin' flyin' buttmonkeys Batman! In comparison, running all of the Sky Rev mods at 1024 on a GTX 680 2GB at 1920 x 1080 with ugrids=5 rapidly eats all of my VRAM and destabilises the game even though physical RAM never exceeds 2.5 GB. ATTK has helped, and restricting the framerate to 35 fps has also smoothed things out considerably. I can only run 2 of the 3 big texture packs at 1024 (HD2K, SRO and Serious HD) if I want any degree of stability. Something tells me I'm still overlooking something. However, I might try out your approach with DDSopt and see what happens. ...Or I could just wait two weeks until my GTX 680 4GB arrives and spend my time more productively taking care of my tax returns and renovations. (Yes, I intentionally chose a GTX 680 rather than a Radeon 7970, but that's a discussion for another thread). On a side note, I may even make my own TPC-style mod-combo package combining the basic tweaks and textures that I always use with the goal of simplifying the entire mod structure. -

Once I finish beating my head against the table I'll upgrade to a GTX680 4GB card. Since I'm cooling my current graphics card with a big prolimatech mk-26 and 2 x 140 mm fans and my entire rig is almost silent even under max load. A GTX690 is probably more than my PSU can handle. I knew I should have spent that little bit extra on a 4 gig card. -

Could part of the problem with the CTDs that I'm experiencing when loading all of the mods simply be the fact that my graphics card is running out of vram? Running the optimized Skyrim, HRDLC, Dawnguard and Hearthfires at 1920 x 1080 on a GTX680 2GB my VRAM usage according to GPU-Z logs peaks at 1275 MB for the intro sequence. Benching the intro sequence with the same system settings running optimized vanilla + unofficial patches, fixes from section 4.2 plus the foundation, section 4.4.1 (with Skyrim HD, SRO and Serious HS all at 1024), my VRAM usage peaks at 1550. Adding the remaining mods pushes vram usage to the maximum. I'm going to experiment with adding mods and bench what happens. I know that the spot in Whiterun that causes my game to crash is some kind of loading transition after crossing the bridge past the meadery. There is always a slight stutter at this spot. -

@neovalen - Most clever. I downloaded the non-NMM package installer. I've got the NMM installer now and will tinker with that. -
Wrye Bash with Mod Organizer - New Bash Patch every time?
Satyre posted a question in Mod Organizer Support
I am using wrye bash with Mod Organizer to create the bashed patch and have all of my mods installed in Mod Organizer. After creating this bashed patch, do I need to rebuild the bashed patch every time I activate or deactivate a mod in Mod Organizer? -

@Neovalen - How did you get attk working with MO? -

Satyre replied to Neovalen's topic in Skyrim Revisited (retired)
@dreadflop. Because you are using the meshes from the UNP Blessed Body and only the textures from the UNP Body. If you look at the install order, you can see that the textures for the UNP Dimonized female body override the textures from the UNP Blessed body. The UNP Dimonized female body is then in turn overridden by the UNP Fitness body. -

Two questions: #1 Do I have to run boss, then wrye bash and rebuild the bash patch every time I enable or disable a mod or is it enough to do so once I have all of the mods installed? #2 Do I have to set the priority in Mod Organizer manually? [FACEPALM] I think I found the root cause of a lot of my problems. - I forgot that both of my original skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini files were write protected and heavily modified. So SkyRev was trying to run with stoopid ultra settings. I restored the default .ini files, added the SkyRev tweaks along with a couple from the geforce guide. No problems so far. One interesting thing: When heavily modded and running ugridstoload=7 I can only start a new game via alternative start or load a game from an interior location. Ugridstoload=7 + Mods + Vanilla start = Game hangs. Now I'm going to keep adding mods and see how long it takes to break. -

OK, now it's running stable with most of the mods up to the end of 4.2.2 Where do I find the skse.ini - saw that in your changelog but can't find it on my machine. -

CTD even without blessed body. Loaded almost everything up to the end of section 4.4.2 (skipped a few mods) and still getting CTD in exactly the same place. -

CRAP - Still getting the CTD in Whiterun. Downscaled to 1024 textures for Skyrim HD, SRO and Serious HD. Now running at a steady 1870 MB VRAM. Depending on what I'm running it occurs either on the bridge after the meadery or between the farm and the meadery in Whiterun.
