  1. Thanks for these answers, guys! I will probably consider tweaking the ENB for sure. I've already turned off bloom and blur effects (because I don't like either at all) but may look into other tweaks there. The most important thing for me is that there be a nice, sharp contrast of shadows and lights with a colour tone that is neither too washed out (I just don't like the way Skyrim looks without an ENB) nor too saturated. I having actually generated LODs yet as I was waiting to see what mods I wanted to use. What I'd like to do is scale back the ENB a bit (as well as tweak some graphics settings) and then go for these textures. Trying to see if I can trade a bit of ENB quality for texture quality. At least until I can pick up an RTX 3080 for less than $1000 lol (so until 2025).
  2. Hey guys, I've been working on modding Skyrim "AE" over the past couple of weeks for my YouTube channel. I wanted to ask a general question and get your impressions. I have a very fast processor but am stuck with a GTX 1660 (6GB) video card with the current shortage. I play in 1080p. I'm wondering what the relative performance impact of different types mods is: High-res textures (I usually aim for 2K, not 4K) Using an ENB Adding ENB light sources Spell effects and other similar eye candy Interior lighting and weather mods Weather mods (including rain and fog) LODs Tree and grass mods My current load order (Re-Engaged ENB, Noble Skyrim/Skyrim 2019 plus tons of 2K texture replacers, Relighting Skyrim, Windows Shadows) is taxing my video card at 100% and I'm trying to figure out what I can scale back to get maximum quality graphics but a little bit better performance. I'm still getting 40-60FPS most of the time so the game is entirely playable but I'm at the limit for sure.
  3. And one more update: If using mods that insert cloaks into the game (Cloaks of Skyrim and Winter Is Coming are the essential IMO), you need Survival Control Panel to add warmth values to Survival Mode.
  4. A few updates to my experience which may be useful. I highly recommend Dear Diary (especially the brand new Dark Mode version) if you are using vanilla Survival Mode. These recently updated versions will allow you to see Warmth ratings in your inventory among many other practical visual improvements. A couple of notable mods that don't work: Stay At The System Page and Yes I'm Sure. If anyone was resolved this let me know!
  5. Just chiming in here as I am in the process of redoing a STEP-inspired Skyrim load order from scratch with the new patch plus AE content. Thus far, basically everything works except for the NET Framework and the few mods that depend on it. I have installed a few scripted mods and will certainly keep an eye out for crashes related to those. Overall, it's not seeming like a modpocalypse at all (much less so than the transition from LE to SE). I'll be curious to see which Creation Club items cause issues or conflicts as these make up the bulk of the update. Having used the STEP method from scratch 2-3 times over the years, I highly recommend using additional separators in MO2 (more than what STEP recommends) to categorize mods so things can be more easily swapped in and out. I decided to go with Re-Engaged ENB, RLO and COT this time instead of the Cathedral method recommended in the guide. I also decided against DyndoLOD so that I don't need to redo that process with every change. No cleaning masters or anything either, as I expect there will be updates pushed out in the coming weeks/months by Bethesda. If anything breaks I'll just strip out all but the visual mods and test individual scripted mods individually. I was surprisingly sort of OK with the functionality offered by CC Survival Mode, although I'll be curious to see how it plays with CACO and CCOR (there are patches on the patch hub for both). In an ideal world, I think we'd mod on top of the now-integrated CC Survival Mode rather than run parallel mods like Frostfall, which (while amazing- don't get me wrong) are fairly susceptible to incompatibility. I may be wrong about this.
  6. Hey folks, for those of you who might want to see a Let's Play series that follows the STEP guide, I have one running on my YouTube channel. Mods please let me know if this kind of self-promotion isn't kosher here. Narisa Norvayn's Adventures in Skyrim
  7. Update: I ended doing a complete reinstall following the guide. For a few of the larger mods that haven't been updated since my previous install I used previously downloaded files. For everything else, there were enough updates, etc. that it was worth simply redoing. I had checked/updated SSE Engine Fixes, SKSE and other similar files in the Skyrim folder. I suspect it may have been necessary to reclean the masters or something. Thankfully my new processor (Ryzen 7 5800) was able to do all of the LODGEN steps at the end in about half an hour total! It might be cool to think about ways in which the STEP guide could be made more "portable", if only by flagging steps that require edits to the Skyrim install directory. Hopefully Bethesda will simply stop making new Creation Club content/updates for Skyrim soon so that the whole thing will just be more stable for modding.
  8. The game crashes a few seconds after the main menu launches. I reran BethINI and installed the correct version of SKSE in the game folder. I think I'm going to go through the STEP list one by one, starting with a fresh install (including MO2 and all the tools), but using my already-downloaded mods in most cases. I don't think the load order or mod list has changed since I originally did STEP about 5 months ago.
  9. Hey folks! Last year I followed the excellent STEP guide to modding Skyrim SE. Later, I ended up rebuilding my gaming rig and having to reinstall Windows. I have the entire contents of my MO2 folders for my Skyrim modding backed up to an external drive. I have found that reinstalling Skyrim and copying the profiles/mods into my new MO2 install, the game crashes on launch. Does anyone have any advice for reinstalling the 200+ mods from this backup copy? I'm willing to spend a day going through the guide one item at a time, but would like to avoid redownloading mods if at all possible. I suspect that specific steps need to be redone clean (LODgen, etc) and some mods may need to be redownloaded, but trying to avoid redoing the entire process. Thanks!
