What's New

New Direction
Step Guides are taking a new direction. Please read the article to understand how future Guides will be handled and released.

A New Prerequisite
A new Guide as been created that is meant for users to follow prior to any of our Gaming Guides. This new guide is the System Setup Guide. Users should visit there and complete it before completing any Gaming Guide by Step.

New Mod Groups
Step SkyrimSE and the other new guides to follow have new "Mod Groups" based on standardized categories that minimize conflict resolution while maximizing differentiation. Compared to previous guides, this restructure greatly improves mod list organization while also reducing the need to hide individual mod assets, thus, improving workflow and reducing user error from missed steps.

Expandable Instructions
Users no longer have to leave the Guide page to view detailed mod instructions! We have rebuilt our mod tables to incorporate expandable rows for any mods with detailed instruction. This update drastically improves workflow and makes it far easier for users to install our Guides.

Removals
Wrye Bash has been removed from the our Guides. Our CR Patches now serve this content in place of the Bashed Patches. Along with it, all Compilation files have taken an arrow to the knee! While it may save time by not having to download and install the mods the Compilations held, it also hinders customization, mod endorsements, and adds to maintenance overhead to our guides. Therefore, Step will no longer provide compilation files/packs with our guides. As such, any mods from the Compilations have been re-added to the guides.

Release Changes

The below changes are listed for the Beta Guide users. These changes have happened between v0.3.0b and v1.0.0. All other users can consider this to be the initial public release of the SE Guide.

Guide Changes

Tools

Tool Installation section and associated content has been relocated to the System Setup Guide.
Once two Guides were set up and running, we saw that this information was essentially being duplicated. Part of the v3.0 release was to streamline this type of information, therefore, removing it from the Guides and placing it on the Setup Guide was a decision to continue the v3.0 streamlining. The Guides now only include Tool Setup because the setup steps will differ from game to game.
xEdit Output mod from the Beta version has been reintroduced.
This is to capture and support xEdit Cache files, as well as, plugin backups. This change affects the MO Profile Setup and Tool Setup instructions.
BethINI setup at the beginning of the Guide has been reworked to be a visual installation.
This is easier to follow and condenses all required changes. Simply match the screenshots provided! Several settings have been tweaked, so be sure to revisit this section.

LOD Generation

  • Updated xLODGen settings to clean up most the z-fighting (flickering) along the banks and shores in the distance.
  • DynDOLOD & TexGen v3 have been adopted, as such, these instructions have been updated.
  • Grass LOD has been introduced as an optional component of the Guide.

Miscellaneous

The additional following changes were made:

  • With the additional features, the Recommended System Requirement for CPU has been updated to support the need of a slightly more powerful processor.
  • Likewise, the Minimum System Requirement for CPU has been updated to support a slightly more modern generation of processors.
  • A general review and further cleanup of the Guide has been completed (formatting, grammar, clarifications, etc.)
  • Removed instructions for cleaning the vanilla master files.

Users should revisit these areas of the Guide.
