Newcomer with questions about Skyrim installation

Question

Posted

I'm a longtime Skyrim console player, but am just learning the ins and outs of playing on a PC.  While waiting for my PC to arrive, I purchased the Legendary Edition of Skyrim on a disk, and installed it through Steam once my computer arrived. I want to install the STEP:Core mods, but I've run into a problem... It looks like the vanilla Skyrim game and the DLCs need to be installed at specific places in the installation order, but with the version of Skyrim I downloaded they were all just put into their respective folders automatically. I tried deleting my game through Steam and buying the vanilla game separately, but was prevented from doing so because "your account already owns some of the above items".

So I've got two questions, 1)  Can I use the downloaded Legendary Edition (Skyrim + the 3 DLCs) as part of the STEP guide process?, and 2)  Is there another way to download the vanilla game separately?  Thanks in advance for the help with such basic questions.

Sorry, I'm not sure what are you referring to. There are no instructions regarding installing vanilla Skyrim and DLC's in any particular order. They just get installed in one go into one, single directory. There can't be any order, as there is only 1 item to install. There are no overwriting files.

If the hard copy installation is different (i.e. each DLC is on a separate disk), then install them in the order of the DLC's coming out: Skyrim, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn, HiRes DLC.

I'm an idiot!  I was looking at the unofficial patches for Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn, thinking they were the DLCs themselves. Thanks for straightening me out.
