Newb question re vanilla install

Question

Posted

Hi

can I make a vanilla skyrim install and keep the game I have (150 hours worth). I started to look at mods on a previous pc but this new pc has not carried them over in the download process.  So think I am mod free. The other thing is I installed skyrim in program files, where exactly do others put it, do people put all their games in one place, and do I have to move anything else to the new location besides this file.

thanx says newb

the game you have is saved in a save folder located in your documents, games blah blah... you'll find it... if you freshly install you need to carry those over.... from documents\my games\skyrim... but yes it won't have any mods and as long as you have your saves transferred you will have your progress.

Can I regard the install I have as vanilla if it has no mods attached? Even though the game has been played for a while.

Then I move it to somewhere other than program files. This is real newb I know but can u give an address on the pc for how and where to place games and game files. New pc, newish to windows, want to start out right.

Would be best to just install it on your new rig... copy over your save file\s and play away. vanilla free.

it's also best to keep your game where the installer puts it, a lot of games you can move anywhere and still play but skyrim is installed through steam so there could be some registry values involved...

I can't remember now and im on my laptop so can't check till tomorrow but i think mine is installed in steam apps found in program files... again though im not sure i have used a shortcut for months to get into my work area.

For install folders in steam

Open Steam

Go to Settings.

Select the Downloads tab

Open library folders

Here you control where steam can install games too. Most games allow you to pick where they are installed based on what you have input here.

If your save games have never seen a mod, then they should be good to use. However if they are really old then they might contain some issues due to skyrim having been updated.

The only mod I downloaded on my previous pc was in August from nexus, the SkyUI by SkyUI team, a user interface improvement, mod no 3863.
