CTD right after Bethesda logo

Question

Posted

Ok I just downloaded the newest update to start a new game, cleaned dirty plugins, made sure boss says there's no conflicting ones, made patches, made sure my cards and everything is updated and running as administrator and now I'm stuck. I use Mod Organizer, I start the game with SKSE through it and after a moment get a black screen with a little clear window in the upper left hand corner for about a minute, then the bethesda logo appears and the games crashes to desktop right after its little animation. I followed the guide pretty strictly, only leaving out a handful of mods that I didn't want and didn't seem to be dependent, and also any dragonborn ones, so I'm at a loss here. I would be thankful for any help, I just want to play my game.

You have the following that are (or may be) causing you problems:

Ars Metallica - Dragonborn.esp

BetterQuestObjectives-AlternateStartPatch.esp

The first requires Dragonborn. The last one requires Alternate Start which is not present.

Oh yeah sorry about that. I forgot to look for "Active" at the end. D:

Since they're not active, they won't cause problems so no need to remove them.

What Aiyen suggested is a good way to do things. If TES5Edit makes your head spin (like it does for me), just do the other option and open Wrye Bash. Go down the list looking at the Masters section (located all the way to the right, almost exactly in the middle). Edit: However, if there is something requiring a thing you don't have... that's when you break out TES5Edit.

All right 24+ hours of no sleep has finally took its toll.

Well to be honest what Aiyen is suggesting is almost as easy as using a mod manger to manage mods. What you do is run TES5Edit and unless you right click and say select none (don't unless you have a reason) then all the esp's and esm's you have enabled will be loaded. Now what this is useful for is that if you have a missing master TES5EDit will simply freeze at the mod that is missing a master.

When you've found the mod missing master you simply look at that mod's page (or if you are also using Wyre Bash click the mod there) to find out what master's are missing from the culprit esp, etc. and correct the problem

That does it. When I eventually wake up after finally going to sleep I'm sitting down and learning TES5Edit.

Not much to learn for this purpose.

It is really as simple as start the program. Press enter!

If it reached "finished" then it is not a missing master, otherwise it will produce an error in mid run telling you which mod has a master that is not present.

It seemed it was the patch and 2 of the mods, I re installed and remade the patch and everything seems to be working now, thanks for the help.
