CTD right after Intro when first exploring world

Question

Posted

Hi all - been tweaking and working constantly for the last 1.5 weeks to try to get this to finally work right for me so i can play through the game for mah first time, and after turning off ApachiiSkyHairRLO and EL&FX (as well as the compatibility patches necessary with them) and Cloaks of Skyrim, i finally made it through the opening intro and through the dungeon.  Now I'm just crashing in the outside world.  The furthest I have made it is to the three alter/stones where you can choose if you want the mage/fighter/thief blessing, and then it crashed as i went down the hill.  CTD each time, and I have cleaned the mods hoping that was the only remaining problem, but alas, still CTD.  So I come to beseech your help!

System Details:

Intel 3770 (non-k)

12G of ram

7950 AMD, 3g ram

I use Mod Organizer (after trying and failing 2x times with NMM)

I don't know how to post the BOSS load order how I have seen others post it, so i went to the BOSS screen and copied the 'Recognized Plugins'

I tried to work with the Extreme settings, as my system should have no problems with it.

And lastly, I am using the ENB RealVision.

I saw someone else post a papyrus log, but i've no idea what that even is so...yea.

Let me know if you need more info, I will be happy to provide it as I'd love to finally play teh game with no crashes...or at least very rare ones.

With the new step guide, should I just start fresh with the new guide, or just stick with this one for now? I don't quite understand how that works, since it gets rid of some mods, and brings in others....do i just change the ones as they are changed per the 'changes to' part?

The bit I can see, your mod list looks good. Since you are starting over, you might just as well do the new STEP changes. Simply remove the mods removed from the list and add the new ones. Should be easy in MO. Then run boss etc. Play from the beginning. Still don't understand why your game wants to load Wyrmstooth.esp if you don't have it installed??? By starting from the beginning you literally mean new game right? New character creation.

uGirds=7 can run stable on most systems. However, if you have stability problems I suggest you first run with the default uGrids=5, seeing you didn't really know what it did.

Have you properly optimised your textures? this can help as well. 2K textures should work on your machine with ENB but it is allways good to optimize. Do you run a lot of crapware in the background. Make sure all unnecessary programs that start up when you start your computer are shut down/blocked from starting up.

Another point to look at is your enblocal.ini. The one that comes with RealVision ENB is not necessarily configured for your computer. Or did you already tweak your enbloacal?

Make sure the VideoMemorySizeMb is set to your VRAM size, (because it is set to 4096 by default in RealVision ENB) and make sure ReservedMemorySizeMb is set between 128 and 512. 128 works best for me, but this is personal. Although Aiyen is correct that the ENB does all the memory optimisations for you, every system is different, hence these settings in the enblocal.ini.

EDIT: It should be noted that with a properly tweaked ENB I did not notice much, if any, reduction in performance by increasing uGridsToLoad to 7, however, since I was running 2K textures with only 2GB VRAM I was getting occational Freezes/slowdowns and infinate loading screens (again occational). I switched back to uGirds 5

As for Wyrmstooth.esp, I have no idea what that is or why it is there, or from whence it came. None the less, I updated to the new step version, changed ugrids to 7 per suggestion and recommendation, used 1k textures from Skyrim Complete Overhaul as well, and things ran smoothly for a good hour.  It eventuallly crashed (in a dungeon of all places) but overall, if i can play for that long each time with no crash, i'm cool with that.  The game, predictably, looks fantastic :D

Thanks for all of teh assistance guys, I greatly appreciate it!

**edit**

Oh yea, and I figure it's worth mentioning that with the tweaks you guys suggested and the change to newest step, my FPS went up about 7-8 on average. Always nice when i was sitting at 30 previously :P
