Question

Hi,

I followed the guide pretty much word-for-word...with the exception of some TES5Edit instructions that had already been fixed by authors, and leaving out a few mods.

Now in-game I get completely random CTDs. One I have found happens all the time. When I loot Jyrik Gauldurson in  Sarrthal for the College of WInterhold quest I get an instant CTD when I hover over the Writ of Sealing. I would assume this is a mesh or a naming error from a mod that might replace this item?

This is my load order as sorted by Boss and Userlist:

  Reveal hidden contents

These mods I initially installed but decided against them:

  Reveal hidden contents

In-case this is of use, i enable Papyrus log to check for script errors:

  Reveal hidden contents

It may be the case that i've removed something without removing something else but everything (for the most part) seems to load and work fine.

There are a few things as well though:

1) When running SUM, i get "Error gathering packages ....somthing can't remember the rest" referencing automatic variants

2) IG the favorites menu is still skyui, not categorized favorites menu.

There are probably a few things that I have forgotten as there usuakly are, but I can add those if needs be or i remember.

Thanks,

Tim

####EDIT####

The issue with Jyrik Gauldurson Writ of Sealing is fixed!

What I did was I opened TES5Edit, and selected all bethesda esms, all unofficial patch options and all book covers Skyrim options. (Unofficial are not actually needed..its just what i did)

Ok so once everything had loaded, I navigated to book covers skyrim>books, and selected the "Writ of Sealing" entry that was relevant to Jyrik Gauldurson. Nothing was red so I assumed there was no problem, however in the column for Book Covers Skyrim I found a row that was different referencing the model: Note19.nif So I replaced this with the skyrim.esm entry.

Loaded the game up, hovered over Writ of Sealing on Jyrik Gauldurson's body and it did not CTD!

Just thought I would post this here in-case anyone else runs into this issue!

#####EDIT 2#####

Ok so i found that all books cause a crash when trying to view the mesh, so I would assume Book Covers Skyrim is having conflict issues with something. I uninstalled Book Covers Skyrim and all CTDs have been fixed (as far as I can tell so far) except for a few freezes on loading screens and when sprinting through open areas (which I would assume is textures)

As for the conditional CTD's, like when hovering over a certain item, I'm not sure, but if you're getting a lot of random CTD's frequently, it could be because you are hitting the 3.1gb max memory load for Skyrim which usually occurs when people use all large textures in their texture packs.  I did this myself by using all 2k textures and that was the problem.  If you did this as well, you should try using 2k textures with 1k normals, or just using 1k textures outdoors and only use 2k textures indoors.  If that's not your problem, then I apologize, just thought I'd throw it out there.  -Cheers

Thanks for replying...I figured some of the random CTDs were because of this and optimized the large textures as best I could. In the end I decided I didn't really need all the HD packs so I removed a select few which I remembered as being very large. I can't run the game on ultra and don't have the RealVision ENB installed so I couldn't care less if the textures were back to Skyrim vanilla state. (I only have a GTX 550 Ti cuz I'm poor...)
