Does Skyrim not like DirectX11? (Graphic Problems)

Question

Posted

I've been getting issues that seem to be related to graphics (freezes, slow mo, static, etc).

I updated the video card and then I found the following document (DxDiag) on my desktop. Does this help work out what's wrong?

I don't have many mods that aren't on STEP, I can list them [no particular order but BOSS sorted most of them and I worked out where to place most except the one with an asterix]: RealisticRoomRental, Bards and Merchants, Travel by Boat*, ASIS, BFF Animal Companions, Simple Marriage Mod, Better Bee Hives, Amazing Follower Tweaks, Classic Classes, Dynamic TimeScale, Reneers Crimw Overhaul, Diseased, Realistic Needs & Diseases, Frostfall, dovahkiin relaxes too, Cooking Expanded, Better Vampires, Economics of Skyrim, Cloaks of Skyrim, WIC cloaks, kutrees Professions, hunting in Skyrim, Fishing in Skyrim, Painting in SKyrim, Deadly Dragons, Achieve That, Armor Disguises, Books books books.

I used a lot of the most recent version of STEP mods but always chose the performance friendly sized ones.

P.S. Our specs as much as the flatmate and I were able to work out:

P.P.S: Skyrim seems to think it can run at Ultra High but I know it can only decently handle Medium in my experience AND! Steam keeps throwing an APPLICATION LOAD ERROR P 0000065432 at me.

I'm also having trouble trying to play LotRO because after a while it CTDs and tells me that it has experience a "fatal directx error".

Skyrim makes no use of dx11 whatsoever as its a dx9 title, but having dx11 installed is obv no problem as long as you have dx9 as well

If you can start the game you have DirectX installed.

You might have an old version... in which case you should just go the DirectX10 folder in your skyrim dir and run the setup. It will automatically update to the required version. It should have done this when you installed the game however.

Do you also have your graphical issues with just pure vanilla ?

If it is in anyway related to DirectX issues then there should also be issues there.

P.S.

A big neon red triangle appeared through and above the stove in the Bannered Mare. What could be causing that?

That usually happens when a mesh is missing for some reason. Maybe try verifying the game cache?

I seem to have fixed things by doing what people who were having trouble with Steam and the Application Load Error did.

I've got a new problem though - Belethor won't sell to me.

You are running with a huge load of script intensive mods, that I bet are not all 100% compatible with each other. So that sort of issues are to be expected!

Well, the Belethor problem is in the vanilla game.

P.S. side note - I actually can run Skyrim on Ultra High it turns out, it's just a little slow now and then.

P.P.S. worked out that graphics problems were happening because my idiot ex had overclocked the graphics card and hadn't put the settings back.
