CTD New Game, Open World Space, STEP 2.2.2

Question

Posted

I keep getting random CTD's in Open World Space afte Unbound was started. Here is the Papyrus log. Can someone help me translate it so I can find out what is causing CTDs?

I couldn't find a "Spoiler" function to hide these long lists of info.

Edit: your crash is directly related from RAM hitting the ceiling of the amount available for the process from VMM. Nothing you can do about it as is, you need to unload the amount of bytes that are being allocated by the process. in simple words you cant use skyrim with such high settings(you need to lower some textures and over all load), its not physically possible as the engine is atm built.

this is a good thread for you to understand how other users are handling this issue

I told you its RAM, like all of us that want to experience skyrim in the next level but we are limited to just one instance of large address.

about HT no game supports it. and its logic, games need synchronous processes and 1 core processes better than 1 core split in 2(lets not get in detail here).

about the inis its hard to tell you what to use and what not. you have them as a base, for now compare them with yours, and try to understand what they will do to your game and if you want it or not and at what values. about the multithreads you really need to change it cause their set to 4 cores only.

@ Nshell: Have you compared your z-fighting tweaks with the "original" ones on the wiki? Do yours look better in game? I'll gladly try them out and update the guide if it should be that way (skipping the tree lod tweak though).

torminater i lowered mine to test for stability, im still struggling where can i squeeze for more stability with out loosing much on textures. but go ahead and test your self that terrain setting and make your conclusion. im still hitting the RAM ceiling very fast...

So if I change my 4K textures to 2K then I should be good? Why do they even have 4K if the game can't handle it?

What should be my next steps? It should be noted that Extreme STEP should be limited to 2K textures if 4K is too much for the game. Someone please correct me if i'm off base

The STEP wiki (Performance, Baseline, and Extreme) doesn't match up with what is on the main page (Core, FSP Impact, VRAM Impact, Performance, Quality) and those pages are blank. Also I don't even see what mod versions are for any of the mentioned above. Has anyone even worked on these categories?

Why do you keep saying my system can't handle it? My GFX card is one of the best out there besides the 690 or Titan. I not sure what your getting at.

if you say so, and thats a matter of opinion cause i say 7970 is one of the best out there. not even gonna talk about 7990...

(you resolution is to high for your card. 63"...)I stand corrected and yes it only affects dots per inch. but you know better for your system and im sorry if my words made you uncomfortable they were not meant to do it.

my intention is not to spread any erroneous information about your system capabilities and your skyrim capabilities.

Not an issue , not offended.  I was just curious on where you're coming from.  I know nothing about AMD cards.  I'm just an nvidia fan boy when it comes to gaming gfx.  I just want my game to be playable with STEP and look good too.  It's funny cause I'm at a stable 60fps even at CTD, no stuttering at all.  I took the Vsync off and was getting ~75-82fps.  It has to be the way the game was coded and it's engine capabilities.

Sadly, uGridstoload tweaks are just not reliable (and we don't recommend them), and it's not only a matter of memory load. It's frustrating, I know, as I have experimented with ugrids at 7 and 9 and found the performance and stability very good most of the time. But there are a handful of areas that will regularly CTD for me with raised ugrids, even without mods, and even if RAM utilisation is low. As far as I know, no-one has really understood the causes of ugrids instability, and Bethesda's line is simply "don't do it."

There is also the concern that raised ugrids can cause save corruption after prolonged play.

I can't wait until the next gen consoles come out and force the PC game industry to code 64bit games

And optimize them properly. Quality should come first and foremost not a quick buck
