My FPS are gradually droping as I play

Hello all. Any help appreciated, thanks! And thanks for the great STEP guide.

 

Problem: When I open skyrim (I'm using skse) my game runs super smoothly for about 15 min, then it progressively looses FPS until it's unplayable, then I quit and start again.

 

Onset: Everything was working great, until one day I accidentally launched skyrim from steam instead of SKSE. I have setted ALL the .ini files back to before I did that, and still no luck.

 

Mods: I have the majority of the STEP mods and have used it's instructions to install Skyrim, set up my vid card, edit the .ini, etc. (But not create the "back up" skyrims). It worked great until the above incident. I am using Wrye Bash and have installed Steam and Skyrim NOT in Program Files.

 

Things I have tried: After accidentally launching skyrim from steam, I re-applied all my ini settings, double checked my nvidia inspector settings, decreased AA and removed SSAO from ENB... no help. I Have not tried a full re-install, as I'd rather fix it without that ordeal. But other than that accidental launch, I had made NO changes!

That's weird as it never happened before. And I make sure all unnecessary processes are closed. But look at my video card settings and my 560ti should really be able to handle it, don't you think? I have SSAO off (before I didn't) I've dropped AA to 12, before it would run fine a 16... what happened all of a sudden?

What happened is you're confusing Anisotropic Filtering with Antialiasing and trying to run modded Skyrim with SSAA on a 1GB VRAM card.

 

Not to mention that you're probably forgetting that mods add to VRAM usage.

 

And why do you have Max pre-rendered frames set to 8? That's not going to help in any way.

So you suggest dropping the antialising setting (currently set to supersampling x2) all together? (Maybe maybe buy a second card ;) )

 

Does antialising have a bigger performance hit than ambient occlusion?

 

As for the Max Pre-rendered frames, I thought they made hardly any difference to performance. But I'll drop it low... how low would you suggest?

Ambient Occlusion has the biggest impact of any of the settings.

 

Maximum pre-rendered frames sets the number of frame that the CPU can pre-render before the GPU takes over. Some claim this causes an input delay (in milliseconds) from the mouse and keyboard when set to higher values; however, testing has not confirmed this as the tested showed no change in input response time. In fact, raising this value may actually improve performance. The recommended setting is "8".
