Hello! I've been having a problem for a while now that when install and activate certain mods and run SKSE through Mod Organiser, my game will crash before I even get to the Bethesda logo. If I uncheck that mod it works again. After multiple reinstalls of the programs and then Skyrim entirely I installed TES5Edit in an attempt to have a clean and stable game and I've discovered that when I've got a mod checked that seems to break SKSE, it also breaks TES5Edit. If I run the program through Mod Organiser I get an error stating "fatal: could not find my documents folder" and then when the program opens the right panel says "fatal: could not find ini" despite the fact that my skyrim ini is exactly where it's always been (in My Documents\My Games\Skyrim) and I've made no changes to it. If I uncheck the offending mod, it works again.
At first I just though it was a problem with the mod, but it's happening with multiple mods and once or twice has happened with a mod that I had previously had installed and running before I did my vanilla reset (Moonpath to Elsweyr and at one point Achieve That, though that's now working fine). I really don't know what the problem is or how to fix it, or why it only happens with some mods. I can run Skyrim and Skyrim launcher through Mod Organiser, and I can run SKSE loader on it's own. I currently have a mod list that works fine, but there are several mods I want to try and so far all of them have caused this problem. Problem mods so far have been: Moonpath to Elsweyr, Agent of Righteous Might, Moon and Star, Convenient Horses, Purity (I can run Pure Waters no problem though) and Alternate Start- Live Another Life (which I installed in a new profile at one point to be played with a new game). Those are the ones I can remember, though there might have been more that I tried to install and they didn't work.
My game is bought on Steam and I have all the DLC and the correct Unofficial Patches (Legendary and High Resolution). I am running the latest version of SKSE, MO and TES5Edit, all are installed into my Skyrim directory (which is installed in ProgramFiles (x86) but I have full UAC control on my steam folder). I have cleaned my esms following the STEP guide, and I installed SKSE using the installer. My current save is missing no esps and I've sorted my load order with LOOT. I'm running about 50 mods, none of them particularly big. MO is showing no warning signs about bad mod order or missing esms. I made sure to generate the ini files before installing MO and SKSE and have not made any changes to my skyrim ini. I don't get any error from SKSE or MO when this happens, the game just exits before the first logo.
While I understand the ins and out of modding to a certain extent I'm not super advanced, so honestly this problem is way above my skill level and its really frustrating because I now feel like I'm locked out of accessing the amazing mods on offer. I'm even considering switching to NMM to see if it works that way, despite the fact that I very much like MO's way of keeping my data folder clean.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Let me know what info I need to provide and how I can do that. I'm hoping the problem is just something really simple I've done wrong- I'd rather be embarrassed but have a working game!
