How to edit .esp without all its masters?

Question

Posted

Hi,

I'm following one of the steps plugin - SRLE to be exact.

One of the steps within it is to manually correct the conflicts between the plugins. It then provides a mile long list and a pre-made esp.

However since I'm not following the guide exactly I don't have all the masters for that file.

Is there a way to open that file in any editor and remove unnecessary records and then masters?

I tried opening it in TES5Edit, but it stops. Creation Kit just crashes when I try to load the esp without the masters, and it's impossible to remove them since they are unknown and thus immune to CTRL + DEL.

I also tried editing the .esp file manually in text-editor, removing the sections with master names manually but the .esp file structure is too complex to do that easily (and opening the .esp file afterwards crashed, as I only managed to remove human readable information about the masters).

I tried getting all the master .esp but one of them is a merged esp - and for unknown reason my merge plugin doesn't work.

Wyre Bash Create Dummies (Uses this method if you do not have the esp plugin downloaded)

Use this method to create dummies of plugins you wish to remove from the premade Conflcit Resolution.

  1. Load Wrye Bash click on the CR and select File->Create dummy esps (this will create fake esps for what you are missing and place them into the overwrite folder).
  2. Load TES5edit with only SRLE Conflict Resolution.esp Selected wait until backgound loader has finished.
  3. Right click on SRLE Conflict Resolution.esp and check for errors.
  4. Remove the records that are broken from SRLE Conflict Resolution.esp (they will show after checking for errors).
  5. Save and Exit.
  6. Load SRLE  Conflict Resolution.esp again in TES5Edit and then clean masters once done save and exit.
  7. Remove Fake plugins fron the overwrite folder.

Thanks!

I managed to remove them using notepad++ though, using perseverance, hex editor plugin and lots of luck.

It was very frustrating - and I finished after your post posting date, so I can only blame myself for not checking the thread. :)

That's not the right way to remove masters and will totally screw up the plugin file.
