Extremely low-res texture

Aanikron

Question

Hi, I'm running Beth's high-res DLC, + almost all of STEP's recommended graphics mods (most through the Texture Pack Combiner), and yet here and there I still see some EXTREMELY low-res textures in the game. I mean it looks like a game from 2002 or something.

What is the deal with this? Should it look like this even with all these texture mods installed?

Yes, that's how it looks. I'd guess you are using the bark textures from Vurts? In my opinion the vanilla ones look better, or Skyrim Realistic Overhaul which I use. Also Better Dynamic Snow.

Snow look crappy no matter what you do in some places though.

That's what I get with using all of Vurts textures, with and without BDS. Pretty sure TPC came out like that when I tried it. That's probably one of the worst results with those textures though.

Certain ENBs make it look really bad as well, something with the snow shaders I believe.

I have now made it look a little better by installing the TreesHD 4096 version over TPC (which used Vurt's textures for these, I suppose?). I'm curious though, for those of you with very high-end machines looking for the highest res version of Skyrim you can get, what do you use instead of TPC? Have you found any other combination of texture mods that looks better overall? Because I do think that TPC does some funky things here and there, but I also don't want to manually have to review every texture and decide which mod I want to use. Too much work. I just want everything to be high-resolution and good-looking! I have an overclocked GTX 680 with 2 GB vram so it should be able to handle most high-res stuff.

@JudgmentJay: I found this just up the mountain from Riverwood, in the first snowy area there.

I just use Skyrim Realistic Overhaul and some very few other small texture packs that doesn't conflict with it. If you want easy and still great looking its hard to go wrong with SRO.

One very easy way to get great textures and mesh fixes is to install full SRO 1.1, then SMIM, RCI and WATER. Then last you apply the SRO 1.6 update. If you want better plants and grass, download Vurts but only install those folders as loose files.

TreesHD is an optional mod in Texture Pack Combiner, and it uses those textures for tree bark instead of Vurt's if you have it set up correctly.

I personally use TPC + about 70 other texture mods. TPC is too convenient not to use in my opinion, but if STEP is going to move away from it I'm willing to try whatever is suggested!
