Common CTDs, Freezes, ILS and memory issues
phalen replied to hishutup's question in General Skyrim LE Support
omg!!! the problem is in my MO ini files! i first replaced the ini files with my original ini files created by skyrim when you run the normal launcher (i have a habit of keeping originals). loaded game, tried to access map - crashed to desktop. ok, problem not in the My computer > Documents > Skyrim .ini files (i thought maybe i put something there that i shouldnt have). then i physically removed the two .ini files in MO profiles directory, and guess what, it works now. ffs. now how do i locate the problem in those files? the ini tweaks are scattered in the mod's detailed instructions page. is there not one page where all of the .ini tweaks (for STEP: Core & Extended) are located? has anyone ever attempted to do this? anyways, here are my ini files contents (from MO directory). on memory side: 2Gb VRAM, 16Gb RAM skyrim.ini skyrimprefs.ini -

no, its when i try to access the map - with the M key or through the menu. it crashes regardless of the option i choose. and i've played skyrim before with no problems accessing the map. (i have over 450 hours logged in skyrim). i will give the delete .ini thing a try tonight if i get a chance.. -

... uh... what? so i must delete the inis in documents folder - which will then be recreated when i launch the game, then exit game, and re-edit in MO. how is that different from using the existing files? surely they would be the same after the new file + edits? -

dont i need my skyrim.ini & skyrimprefs.ini for the game to work? those are the only ini files in my documents folder. just did that - and it said that 5 files failed to verify - installscript.vdf, update.esm, dragonborn.esm, dawnguard.esm & hearthfires.esm weren't those the files that were cleaned by TES5Edit? - well, steam re-downloaded them now, so now i've lost those edits. in anycase - it dit not fix my problem. still crashing to desktop when attempting to access the map. -

like i said - it is a fresh install - from steam - i removed my old skyrim folder completely - and redownloaded skyrim again. that is what i meant when i said a fresh & clean install. -

no, it is not possible that i have left over junk - read my post above, and quote below from that post: quoted from my last post. there is nothing in my skyrim folder. -

**sigh** removing the d3d9.dll didnt help :( yes, its both outside and inside that it crashes when i try to access the map i am like 1mm away from giving up. i have spent over 2 months now on this project and another one i tried before STEP. (and yes, i started step with a fresh & clean skyrim install, before anyone asks). so tired of not being able to play the game.... never had issues like this when i blindly installed mods with NMM. -

should be as directed by ENBoost guide in the STEP. ExpandSystemMemoryX64=falseReservedMemorySizeMb=512VideoMemorySizeMb=18432 AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false CALCULATION OF VideoMemorySizeMb ;64-bit users with >= 8GB system RAM, set to formula: [VRAM] + [system RAM] - [2048] vram = 4096 system ram = 16384 (16gb) total = 4096+16384-2048 = 18432 vram = (system/inspectors says 4gb, but card specs say 2gb: https://www.gigabyte.co.za/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4663#sp) so i am not too sure what to do about the VideoMemorySizeMb, if i have the right number or not. -

hi again. been having a blast tonight (finally got to play). after about 2 hours of play and finding the golden claw, i decide its time to go back to first town via fast travel. i pressed M for map, and had an immediate CTD - no error message from windows saying there was a problem etc. just - poof - gone. i searched the site, and tried to do the forcesteamloader thing in the skse launcher argument - didnt work. i tried the injector version of enboost - didnt work. MO manages my SKSE i installed memory block and this is what i get: i cant seem to find anything else that could help me fix this - ideas? -

thanks for the info Nozzer66. AltF4 mod? seems i might have missed something :O_o: will the order of the last three patches remain as i listed them? essentially i would only move the new mod above the 3 patches and then bash? or would the listing be as follows: 1. dual sheath redux patch 2. fnis 3. new mod/s 4. bash patch i am uncertain what the order should be for the 3 patches. appreciate the help! -

hi again. so i finally finished installing the mods according to the guide - step by step! and it works :D thanks for the earlier explanations. i do want to ask some more questions though if i may. A. i want to install one or two additional mods, like unread books glow, etc. do i have to do the following after each new mod installed, or after the whole lot (so if i know i'm doing 10 then i do it after the 10). 1. bash patch 2. dual sheath redux patch 3. FNIS patch B. i just opened MO and see i have a file in my overwrite folder: skse > plugins > SKSE_Elys_AltF4.log what do i do with it? all in all i am really happy with this entire process. fantastic work guys & gals! -

i have gone through the MO guide - things make a lot more sense now than they did before. tonight i will start a fresh installation. a question - what are the benefits of installing STEP:Extended? i tried to look for a screenshots section that shows the difference of just core and core+extended, but couldn't see anything. is it perhaps hidden deep within the site? -

STEP: Core / Expanded - where do they start/end?
phalen replied to phalen's question in General Skyrim LE Support
thanks for the feedback Nozzer66! its making a little more sense than when i posted this morning. apologies, but i'm not sure i quite understand the left pane. so the last mod installed (from the guide) should be the very last on that left pane's priority list? that would be FNIS? (according to the guide) how do i re-do the installation without re-downloading all the mods? i dont want to copy the current profile, i want to re-install them as i think i got a few wrong in the beginning. i was halfway through i think when i started wondering if i was supposed to merge files for the same mod or not - some instructions kept referencing the extra files but as i merged them onto the main i couldnt isolate/select them.
