  1. Thank you! How do you re-order mods on the left hand side? I'm trying to drag them but it doesn't work.Edit: And how does MO know which texture is better? Edit (again) to discard my last edit: Watched more of GamerPoet's videos and understand priority numbers now. I can also drag and drop if I do it from the priority column. It seems I have to get all these textures sorted out somehow and will probably take me a while. Some of them I haven't endorsed yet so I can't see the lightning icon. So I'm going one by one to endorse everything. It's not letting me endorse from MO either. I have to go the Nexus page. And what about mods that were downloaded from a torrent? I know one of the texture mods STEP suggests is from a torrent file, I just can't remember which one. Some of them don't even have Nexus data, which is really weird. So I'm still at it. Could someone possibly send me a screenshot of their left panel if they are using STEP mods? It would help me (at least as a reference) to figure out priority. So I'm going to go through all the mods, make sure they're endorsed, figure out the Nexus IDs for the mods that don't have it. Another question, why are there red thunderbolts next to the unofficial patches? Should those have a higher priority number? Also, still having problems with some OTHER mods. (Should I open new threads for these issues?) It seems to me that Audio Overhaul and The Compendium aren't working well together. I know they conflict but I used the patch for Audio Overhaul when I installed Compendium. I'm not hearing reverb in game, and also not hearing some of the Compendium sounds that are supposed to be playing. I also saw a post here about Audio Overhaul not working for them but I don't think it was solved.I promise I'll mark this solved once I've figured out everything (And I will!). You guys have been really helpful so far though! Big thanks!
  2. First of all, thank you for helping and the quick response.Okay, a lot of what you're saying is helping me understand the program a little more. For instance, I just learned today that MO doesn't put files in your skyrim directory by watching some videos. I was really struggling with that last night trying to use both NMM and MO together. So- when you were talking having a bsa texture and then installing another texture that would have the same name file, why would the latest installation be the one that's used? In NMM, the old texture would just be overwritten, right? So how is MO keeping two files with the same name and picking a higher priority over one? Unless that's not what you're saying. Are you saying that one of the files is overwritten? I keep thinking in terms of how NMM was used. Also, where do you see your overwritten folder? If I go to <Checked>, I scroll down, I just see the word "Overwrite" in red and assume all the files below it are messed up.I really need to get some sleep now because I'm so confused. Hopefully I'll be sharp again in the morning and figure this all out.
  3. Hey everyone. So I'm starting to get the gist of using MO. I deleted everything from NMM and everything from MO and started to download everything again because I want to start a new game. I used the STEP guidelines for a lot of the mods, I used some other mods beyond STEP and everything seemed to feel alright until I started it up. The game was all funky in the carriage on my way to Helgen. So I decided I'd turn off all of my mods by going to the <Checked> portion in MO, right clicked and selected "Disable All Visible". The game was still glitched and then after an hour of researching, I figured out I installed FNIS incorrectly in MO. I didn't set the Data directory correctly so I chose to do it manually and fixed it. I'm kind of curious what other ones I screwed up (mods that I may have just installed without using the manual feature and having the incorrect data directory.) Is there any way to check if there are mods that weren't "good to go"? Anyway, so I enabled all the mods again and suddenly the "Potential Problems" button lit up. It appeared some of my mods were out of order now so I just used the "fix" button. I think everything was fine for a while until I realized it lit up again and said: "Files in the Overwrite mod are are usually files created by an external tool (i.e. Wrye Bash, Automatic Variants, ...). It is advisable you empty the Overwrite directory by moving those files to an existing mod. You can do this by double-clicking the Overwrite mod and use drag&drop to move the files to a mod. Alternatively, right-click on Overwrite and create a new regular mod from the files there." etc. etc. Then I realized under <Managed by MO>, there are a ton of my mods apparently overwritten? I am trying hard to understand this. Was all that work that I did with installing the STEP mods one by one (in order) all in vain because I unchecked and re-checked all the mods I currently have? The whole overwritten error came out of nowhere though. And also, there's a section on the left called, <Conflicted> and a bunch of my mods are listed in there as well. I'm watching the tutorial videos on YouTube and I can't figure out how to fix this problem. Do I have to reinstall all of these one by one? Sorry if I sound like a dope, I was never good with modding, even using NMM. I just want to get my game to work well using most of the STEP guidelines/mod suggestions. Can any of you MO experts help me out here? Thanks!
  4. I figured it out. It was the ENB I was using. I think Project Reality with a different d3d9.dll than the 1.19. I'm now using a different ENB by the same author and it's loading fine.
  5. Hi everyone, I just installed STEP 2.2.5 and I've been getting loading screens lasting up to 10 minutes or more. It seems the only way to get passed them quicker is to ctrl+alt+delete and go into Task Manager, and all the sudden, I switch back to Skyrim and it's loaded. It's rather odd. I've uninstalled many of my texture mods to no avail. I searched around here a bit and saw something about z-fighting and ugrids but I don't want to corrupt my save in the future by changing anything that could potentially compromise it. If you have any ideas, please let me know! Thank you
  6. Update: I think I've got it! SMAA fixed a lot of the problems! My hands are still transparent in some areas but I think that is unfixable due to SSAO with ENB. Is there a way to turn off DoF in first person so my hands don't get blurred though? You guys are terrific, btw. I'm glad I can finally play Skyrim again. :)
  7. Do I keep regular AA on with SMAA or do I turn it off everywhere (inspector?) Â Isn't the patch 1.8 now? If it was 1.6, you'd think they would have fixed it by now! The weird thing is I don't remember ever having these issues since building this PC back in August and I know I've used more than 8 AA in the past. Edit: Installed SMAA, now getting CTD whenever I try to open Launcher or SKSE. Lol. I deleted my Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini to see if that was the problem, it wasn't. I reverted everything back to normal in Nvidia Inspector, turned off all active plugins, and verified integrity of game. Still getting CTD! Skyrim and I aren't getting along lately. :( PapyrusLog [01/12/2013 - 10:53:31AM] Papyrus log opened (PC) [01/12/2013 - 10:53:31AM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 500.000000ms) [01/12/2013 - 10:53:31AM] Memory page: 128 (min) 512 (max) 76800 (max total)Doesn't look like there was enough time for anything of value to be logged. Lol.
  8. It's not like this on other games. I did a fresh install and I still have the same problems. By hardware issue do you mean that I may have a faulty video card or that my drivers may not be compatible? This video card is brand new and the temps are fine so that's a little scary to hear. I've found others who have run across the same problem but mention that it has to do with AA settings being above 4. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to set my AA settings. If I set them in Nvidia inspector, and choose override application, then what's entered in the launcher doesn't matter, right? I found this from another forum: "Hello, anyone who has an Nvidia card will get the black lines/pixals around fire and healing spells, you will also get a few black lines around burned down houses and sometimes dragons. It is an anti-aliasing problem caused by having 8xAA on, putting the game to 4xAA fixes this. I think 1.6 caused this problem. regardless of what nvidia drivers you use you will have this problem. so until nvidia or bethesda fix it just play using 4xaa. EDIT: Skyrim does support FXAA in the launcher options not through the Nvidia control panel, but i advise using 4xaa in game and using 2x supersample transparency from the nvidia control panel. If you use multisample transparency alot of NPC's are see through, this is an engine bug and cannot be fixed. Also FXAA blurs everything too much."
  9. Fresh install, still have the problem... dang Re-installed all my mods, re-did STEP and now I'm dealing with this... https://i.imgur.com/RF9Ms.jpg Lines are back too if my AA is set above 2x. Something's up and it doesn't have to do with mods. But I've been trying to fix this for last 4 hours or so. :P I'm about to go insane now. Posted on Nvidia's site too. Haven't heard back. I don't understand. I have a very powerful rig here. My video card is high end. Why would it give me trouble if I set my AA to higher than 2x? I wonder if the Nvidia inspector has anything to do with it? There's so many settings in different places. I have the AA set from launcher, the anisotropic filtering as well. AA is set to 2x, anisotropic filtering is set to 16 samples (so I didn't edit that option in SkyrimPrefs.ini where you set 16 to 0 or whatever) I guess I'll give this another shot later on. I am beyond lost right now. Lol. Thanks again for your help so far.
  10. It wasn't a complete re-install. I turned off all mods/plugins, removed all ENB files, set Nvidia game settings back to default, and I even tried using an older Nvidia driver. I'm going to do a complete uninstall/re-install now but I don't think it will fix the problem. I've uploaded a video to YouTube to show you what the problem is now. The lines aren't appearing around my hands in first person but there is definitely something wrong with them and I think it's an indication that the lines will appear again. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFqor1yLSBQ&feature=youtu.be Can you see the problem? It's very subtle and you'll have to look on full screen but I don't think that's normal. BTW I've never used any texture optimizer.
  11. I reset everything to vanilla. The lines were still there. All my Nvidia drivers are up to date. I don't know what the problem could possibly be. I had the problem before I updated the Nvidia driver too. Very confused at this point.
  12. Thanks to you both! Will try out those options.
  13. Hey techangel, I installed it and it looks alright so far. I used the 'Warm' preset but it's a bit unsaturated and grim for me. What kind of monitor do you have? I'm wondering if I'm using the correct settings for that. I have an Asus 24" HDMI and I'm using "Standard Mode", every other mode seems a bit off for Skyrim. As far as the line artifacts go, I'm wondering if it has something to do with my anti-alias settings. Could you possibly look over them and tell me if they're alright? And should I have FXAA enabled or disabled? Thank you guys so much, you've been so helpful so far. :) Also, take a look at the texture on NPC faces:Â https://i.imgur.com/4zFLG.jpg Seems off... what do you think?
  14. Thanks! I'm going to try installing it now. I really wish I knew where those ugly lines were coming from though. :( I couldn't find anything about on Nexus.
  15. Is that one compatible with Climates of Tamriel?
  16. Thank you! Did that now. Re-entered all the lost values for STEP.I never even thought about trying it without ENB. How stupid of me. It seems like the ENB IS causing the transparency issue! But the lines are still appearing within the hands... see here: https://i.imgur.com/ybIaI.jpg Edit: Regarding transparency, I was just viewing the Nexus thread for Project ENB and found this.. "SSAO with the ENB Series produces some graphical errors on transparent objects. Currently there is not a fix for it, but according to the developer, Mr. Boris V., a solution is possible but we don't have an ETA yet. Sorry." Just in case anyone in the future is having this issue, there ya go. :) You're welcome! Skyrim will reset the INIs whenever you open the launcher and change any settings. It's recommended to change the INI files to "read-only" to prevent Skyrim from overwriting your edits. If they have been overwritten, simply go through the INI Tweaks again on the guide and then change the files to read-only. I'm not really sure what is causing this issue though, I'll have to do some more research and get back to you unless someone with more experience chimes in. I must have looked over that in the STEP manual. I had no idea I was supposed to set it to read-only! Thank you. :)
  17. Hey techangel85, thanks for the quick reply! You know- I set those all to 1 before. I don't know how they were changed back to zero. When does Skyrim reset those values? I wonder if I have to do the entire STEP modifications over again. :( Anyhow, I put them all back at 1 and the problems still seems to persist. Take a look here:Â https://i.imgur.com/U1hq7.jpg You can still see the lines if you look close enough, and obviously the transparent hands. p.s. Thank you for the cleaning guide! I was looking at a video on YouTube how to do that. I've been putting it off for a while now. I should really get to it.
  18. Hey all, new here. I just started using Skyrim on PC and I've been trying to follow STEP to the best of my ability. I'm not really good with a lot of this stuff so your help would be much appreciated! The problem I'm having right now are texture transparencies and ugly black lines around hands (usually when have magic equipped) and sometimes elsewhere, like the sky. Here are some examples. You can see the black lines I'm talking about here. Rather subtle but not aesthetically pleasing either. And here are some shots of the texture transparency: https://i.imgur.com/FS4l8.jpg My computer is running on a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670. It's driver is updated to the most recent, (310.90) Below are some of my settings and mods. If you see anything else that would cause a red flag for S.T.E.P, even not regarding my graphic problems, please let me know! Again, I'm not great at this. Looking forward to hearing from you! Thanks so much
