Always foggy and hammer pounding in Bannered Mare
akmatov replied to akmatov's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
That was exactly the issue. Very likely I missed it, but the STEP Guide should inform the ignorant, ppl like me, that the fps Must be capped under 60, 58 seems best for me - without the cap I was running as high as 115 and being anywhere near water things were crazy, not to mention the floating cattle. This should be in large red letters at the very start, as well as how to fix it. The STEP Guide is a resource about which I have very mixed feelings. Some of it is excellent and some of it is outdated and even a bit sloppy. Outdated is ofc inevitable, but sometime in the last two years a quick review of STEP v2.10.0 would seem reasonable. At least one mod is no longer available and several have changed, one mod only has SE choices and no longer seems designed for LE. Also, the 'detailed instruction' are sometimes anything but detailed, some assuming more knowledge than others. I learned about how to 'set directory' and how to 'hide' elements of a mod by the more detailed instructions of a few. There also seems a lot of focus on updating detail graphics, which is very nice and makes a big difference, but little on broader issues. Not intended to be negative, but just a bit frustrated and concerned as my mod count is well over 100 and I wonder if this may cause issues. Well, back to finishing up this install so I can finally actually play more than my Test Toon. -
First, having some low level aggression issues? Second, thanks, exactly what I needed. Third, I may very well have missed it, though I looked, but in the STEP Guide in large red letters it should be mentioned that one MUST cap fps under 60 and how. This cost me a day in getting my base install setup and it should have taken about five minutes. Ya'll have a great day.

Having a problem, posted a request for help yesterday but no responses, that I now think is related to Skyrim LE running at over 60 fps, in my case between 80 and 115 fps. Have searched these forum and with Google and still haven't found HOW to cap the fps, just that I probably need to . Please could someone share with me exactly how to do this?

Always foggy and hammer pounding in Bannered Mare
akmatov replied to akmatov's topic in Step Skyrim LE Guide
UPDATE: Not just in the Bannered Mare, out in the open in the Whiterun Valley to and from Riverwood there is a weird noise and although I've not had a problem on foot, a horse has the ground shifting under it and it slids backwards. Help -
Most of the way through a CORE install and checking periodically to be sure all is well by opening Skyrim. With all the mods things look pretty good visually, it is like everywhere is covered in a thin mist or as if you are looking through a soft focus filter. Did a Fast Travel to Riverwood, arrived just outside the gate looking in. And everything looked great, bright, sharp and colourful. Then after about five second if flipped to soft, dull and grayish. More weird, Fast Travel to Whiterun and the problem is gone. Fast Travel back to Riverwood, problem is still gone. Any ideas on this? Going into the Bannered Mare in Riverwood there was a constant banging sound like a mallet against the wall, quite loud. Checked a few other places and either not there or much fainter. What the heck?

Where are mods installed. Nexus and STEP differ. Insane.

Greg you da Man! Exactly what I needed and some I didn't know I needed. -

Your information, if not your courtesy, were helpful and appreciated. Nexus and Gamerpoets both recommend installing the mod folder on the same drive but not within the Skyrim folder without reference to MO. STEP was the only one mandating it be installed within the Skyrim folder, but only in the case of no installation of MO, as you pointed out. Thank you for the information needed to resolve my confusion. -
This is insane, two radically different instructions from two groups who should know. MO2 appears to want to DL everything to my C:, but that is a small SSD devoted to the operating system and I have Skyrim installed on E:, also a SSD, which is too small for the many downloads and mods a fully modded Skyrim would require. Moving the downloads to a larger drive was easy and done. But Nexus and STEP, and I think Gamerpoets, are telling me totally different things. Where does the Mod folder need to be? Nexus: create a folder where modding resources will be installed (outside of skyrim's directory but on same drive). An example: "C:\Skyrim Mod" STEP - 29 Sep 2018 Installation and configuration Skyrim mods must all be installed to the Skyrim data directory. If you have followed recommendations it will be somewhere like this D:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\Data.

Many thx for such a fast and direct response. About to start all over again due to installing the wrong SKSE, so this is especially useful -
A guide to using Nvidia Inspector - Unclear Instruction
akmatov posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
As one who has crashed out of Skyrim several times over the years I'm attempting to follow the STEP program very carefully in hopes of a stable install. However, carefully working my way through the instructions I'm finding what appear to be inconsistencies and would appreciate clarification. Setting Up the Skyrim ProfileTexture Filtering Problem 1: "The settings for AF should match the picture above for the STEP recommendations from the STEP Guide. In the INI tweak section on the STEP Guide, Anisotropic Filtering (AF) was turned off. Now it needs to be turned on using Inspector." Question: WHICH Anisotropic Filtering, Anisotropic Filtering Mode or Anisotropic Filtering Settings? Either is possible, Guide instructions don't state which. If the statement "The settings for AF should match the picture above for the STEP recommendations from the STEP Guide" is correct then in my case the Anisotropic Filtering Settings have already been switched to OFF, but the Guide statement that something needs to be changed could equally refer to Anisotropic Filtering Mode. Clarification requested. Problem 2: "Users not using ENBoost should set Anisotropic filtering setting as indicated below. ENBoost users should ensure the Anisotropic filtering setting is off and set ForceAnisotropicFiltering is set to true in theenblocal.ini file." This seems to contradict the statement in the STEP 2.10.0 Guide: "YES, ENBoost is needed by EVERYONE, including those that do not use ENB Presets!" Once again, clarification requested. -
Really basic question, the font in MO2 is tiny. How can it be increased in size so as to be more legible?
-
Thanks for the response. So in terms of STEP, Skyrim Legendary just mean Skyrim with all the DLCs, not some product also called Legendary with added content beyond the 4 DLCs?
-
Must seem too basic, but I'm confused. The term Legendary Edition is commonly used to refer to Skyrim + all DLCs. But it also refers to a very late edition of Skyrim, which included Skyrim + all DLCs plus some extra features like mounted combat. I have Skyrim + all DLCs via Steam, but just purchased a physical copy of LE from Amazon. In installing it and after installation nowhere did I see the words Legendary Edition or LE. How can I verify what the heck I have?

Your documentation needs an 'idiot' editor - [SOLVED]
akmatov posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Working with your documentation on installing the STEP vision of how Skyrim should be improved, I'm reminded of a suggestion I read that no law should be allowed to pass unless it cleared the Council of Idiots for understandability.  Just one example is the installation of the Texture Pack Combiner in the STEP v2.2.0a Guide, which direct one to "Follow instruction on STEP Wiki". First, the colour and underlining of STEP Wiki is the same as is used elsewhere to indicate a hot button that would reasonably take one to the pertinent information. It isn't and doesn't. Second, after a careful search of the STEP Wiki I could find no instructions on the installation of the Texture Pack Combiner. Even if it turns out to be tucked in some obscure corner, it is still of no use to the novice user who can't find it.  I'm very interested in using the fruits of all the hard work you guys have done, but the documentation is often a conversation amongst yourselves and is somewhat opaque to the novice wishing to improve Skyrim.  Sharing this with you in the spirit of the wheel that never squeaks, never gets oiled. ;) -
Where are your recommended mods? - [SOLVED]

UPDATE I'm now finding them via the Wiki, but it is strange that Nexus search wasn't turning them up. Problem fixed.
