Troubleshooting: Color Channels Switched?
absentheverte replied to absentheverte's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
Borderless upscale worked with no problems. Thank you guys so much for working with me on this! Hopefully the missing pixel doesn't come back to haunt me later -

Nope - actually, there is no meta.ini, either. But there is a 'Skyrim' folder in the game root folder with only a 'SkyrimPrefs.ini' inside. Should I post that? Interesting! The first two options gave me Case (2) and the third option looked completely perfect, other than missing a single column of pixels. Well, I still don't understand why this would have anything to do with switching colors, but I am happy to stick with the third option. -

Ok, I did this and it did Case (2). Then I tried pasting the same updated INI files into Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition and running skse64_loader.exe from the game root folder. This resulted in Case (2) as well --- what??? so is the color switch actually related to the positioning/resolution? -
Troubleshooting: Color Channels Switched?
absentheverte replied to absentheverte's topic in Step Skyrim SE Guide
So far, I have seen two cases. (1) Behaves as vanilla: correct colors, 1024xsomething resolution, windowed, with borders, window starts out with part of it off screen, and I drag it to be fully visible. (2) MO version: colors switched, 1366x768 resolution, windowed, borderless, aligned with screen. Now, I ran skse64_loader.exe from the game root folder after pasting BethINI generated files into the folder you mentioned. This produced a combo of previous two cases: correct colors, 1366x768, but with borders, and (probably because of borders) shifted ~20 pixels to the left and downwards. So, it's not following all of BethINI's instructions, but it is the best case so far. I also asked BethINI to revert to "Before BethINI" files, then launched SKSE from MO2; this resulted in Case (1) behavior. -

The vanilla game is totally fine for me; I haven't played other games contemporary with or more recent than Skyrim so I don't have very high expectations. I guess I was actually running it with Medium settings, and according to AMD it was averaging 20 FPS. Definitely a bit of lag during fights or when I would first enter a new city. I also can sometimes use the loading screen as an intermission. But I am still enjoying myself. Actually, the reason I was even looking at mod threads in the first place was to try to adopt kids in all of my houses. While looking into that, I got hopeful about improving performance and perhaps getting a better map or some other minor improvements. So, if I can get this color thing figured out, I will definitely take your recommendation and just stick with limited sections of STEP and try things from Free FPS. I think that the settings in the INI file generated by BethINI are also only used if I run the game through MO2, since only uses the correct screen resolution in this case. Here are my specs! Yeah, I just googled out of curiosity and even the mid-range GPUs cost more than my entire computer... -
Troubleshooting: Color Channels Switched?

@Mousetick Yes, I think maybe I am barking up the wrong tree with this step guide...I actually found it in a reddit thread about improving performance. I saw a bunch of recommended fixes/patches/tweaks and some mods that just remove stuff like certain trees, but not knowing anything about how to debug or fix conflicts, I went with the guide. Are there any other popular guides/mod lists that are more barebones? Also, if I can't figure out how to make the mods work, then can I just disable stuff with MO2 or do I need to delete everything and redownload the game? I got the driver updated, and launching Skyrim from MO2 also produces the weird color effect. -

Thanks for the instruction, I completed it (btw Windows 10 Home doesn't come with gpedit.msc, but I was able to install in cmd). I also found out that I have an iGPU which is why there's no model #. After reboot, problem persists. -

Huh, I am running Windows 10, so I'm not sure why it says that. As for the GPU, it is an AMD R5, but the current driver is from 2021 (my computer was made in 2014 btw). I wonder why the log file got the windows version wrong? -

Thanks for the instructions! Here are the logs, I reenabled all the mods in MO2 and ran SKSE from there. SSEDisplayTweaks.log skse64.log -
Troubleshooting: Color Channels Switched?

Thanks both of you for your replies! I'm using a laptop, so there isn't much for monitor settings, just brightness, resolution and battery optimization. I just tried a couple of other games, and only Skyrim has the problem. It looks like my screen doesn't have HDR capability. Everything else looks normal. I found the Color Management settings and it only has a default profile called "Generic Non-PnP Monitor.icm". In AMD Radeon Software, there is a "Custom Color" option, but it's off. I tried unchecking all the mods in MO2 and running SkyrimSE.exe, and the colors looked fine. Then, I unchecked everything except for SKSE64 and the Address Library and then ran skse64_loader.exe and the colors looked fine. Still with only SKSE64 & Address Library checked, I ran SKSE from MO2, and the colors are all wonky again. I don't know if that narrows it down at all; I guess even when they are unchecked the mods still may have some effect. -
Hi, first time using mods. Started the Step guide, finished up to the first section of extender mods and went to test launch. Everything was fine except that the colors were switched. Sky and water were yellow orange, my character's skin was purple blue, plants and leaves were blue green. I took a screen shot, but when I opened in my photo viewer, the colors all looked normal. I thought it must be something with my display settings. I had a screen calibration program called Calibrize so I uninstalled. I also restored default settings with with the AMD Radeon UI (reverted to default 'gaming' options, checked 'anti-lag'). Checked windows display settings, everything that could be adjusted only had one option so I left it as-is. Rebooted, launched again, same issue. At the beginning when setting up BethINI, I used the "medium" setting instead of "high" and didn't change some values that seemed intensive, because up 'til now I've had to use "low" settings for everything to run quickly enough. (I also had checked "windowed" and unchecked "borderless" because for some reason, this whole time I've been playing pure vanilla, the game always started a little bit to the northwest of the corner of my screen, making it so I couldn't see anything in menus. So I always ran it at a smaller resolution, then moved the window after the game loaded. But when I launched after first part of Step guide, it actually just did the full screen version at the correct size and location.) So, I went back and adjusted the INI settings -exactly- as written. Rebooted, relaunched, no effect. Summary: Color channels are switched in game, but screenshot looks normal. Anybody know why it's doing this?
