Black screen with ambient sounds after starting a new game
Dovahkiin replied to Dovahkiin's question in General Skyrim LE Support
But where exactly did I mess up? I mean, I know that I have since the game doesn't work, but I have absolutely no clue where I went wrong. -

Loot screenshot (what about returning to base game for a while and then switching back to STEP? Or would that ruin my character, if I did it that way? I'd have mods installed, but only those that do not conflict with S.T.E.P. to minimise the possibility of having to delete mods. At the moment, I really just want to play) -

Yep, using MO...I don't know, I think it does. If you meant the mod list (left) and the plugin-window to the right, that is ok...feeling stupid now...thanks...no idea why I didn't think of scrolling down the download list -

MY CURRENT MOD LIST, ACCORDING TO MO: MY CURRENT PLUGIN LIST ACCORDING TO MO: Both lists were created today (via copy paste from MO-profiles- loadorder.txt and MO-profiles- plugin.txt (both files are dated 03-31-2017). Also, MO always asks "there is still a download. Close anyway?" when I want to close the program...but where the hell do I see this supposed download? -
Black screen with ambient sounds after starting a new game
Dovahkiin replied to Dovahkiin's question in General Skyrim LE Support
I thought that was it at first, but running it through MO gave the same results (although there IS the possibility that I might have installed it wrong - even though I followed the "how to get loot running through MO" - tutorial video to the letter) -
Black screen with ambient sounds after starting a new game
Dovahkiin posted a question in General Skyrim LE Support
Hello, I know I've already requested help regarding STEP installation, but frankly, I have absolutely no clue where I left off. I had a longer hospital stay and now this is the situation I come back to: * since last time, I updated my RAM, so now I've got 12 GB RAM instead of 1GB * Skyrim starts up just fine * ENB Series 0.308 for TES Skyrim * there is an information PATCH SPEEDHACK ENBoost turned on in enblocal.ini, graphic modification disabled * starting a new game: new game is loaded, but then it stops on a black screen with ambient sounds - only chance to get out is by shutting down the game via CTRL+LALT+DEL => user logout; TASK MANAGER doesn't work I play the game with Alternate Start - Live a new life and all mods, that are required for Basic S.T.E.P. to run. As far as I know, anyway. Could be that during the long installation process, I missed out on one of them. running loot gave me THIS MY MOD-LIST: Where are all my mods? They are shown in MOD- Organizer as ACTIVATED (at least they're ticked and appear in the plugin list), but neither of them appears here THIS IS MY skyrimPrefs.ini: my enblocal.ini: my Skyrim.ini: Although I'd much prefer to fix this without reinstalling every single mod, I would do it if that is the only safe way to get a clean and safely running game. I only need to figure out where on my system all my mods were stored, delete all of them, make a clean install of the game and MO (how?). PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM A COMPLETE ... WELL, I AM BAD WITH COMPUTERS AND EVERYTHING RELATED. Can you help me? -

That was my thought behind it, actually. ^^ Do I have to change some ini-files or something, because my game won't work? Starts up just fine, up until the main screen, I can choose a new game, I briefly see the level bar like always when I start a game, then the screen is black and remains that way. Only ambient sounds, from what I assume might be from the cell you wake up in when using Alternate Start. Task Manager through CTRL+LALT+DEL doesn't work, only thing that does is forcing it to quit through CTRL+LALT+DEL and then choosing "Log Off" from the menu. EDIT: ok, scratch that. I do need Step Optimized Vanilla Textures...hadn't installed that. Will install it, then test again. -

Thank you, Greg and Nozzer66! Allright, so I've installed all STEP:Core and some STEP:Extended Mods, along with Alternate Start - Live another Life, Immersive Horses, Hunterborn, Frostfall + Campfire, Skyrim Immersive Creatures, Deadly Dragons and The Dragon Engine. The only things I did not install were: the High Res DLC, the Unofficial High Resolution Patch and STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures (I know they are core, but on Tony's Mod page, unless I read wrong, they are not needed when installing his Textures using the High Res Version) However, now when I try to start a game, it begins loading normally, then the screen stays black, with ambient sound. Only way to get out is by using CTRL, ALT and DEL and Log off (Task Manager won't work). Are there some ini changes I need to make since I don't have the HighRes DLC and stuff? -

Double Post again, sorry :/ There's a curious issue when using "SkyFalls and SkyMills" with "Practical Female Armours". For some reason, whichever is loaded first is marked as redundant in MO. When I open the information tab of either mod under MO, the window under "Conflicts" shows the following file: /meshes/BatSeparator.Category Incompability? -

Again, thank you TechAnge85 ^^ A question about DynDOLOD: when I go to it's page on the nexus, I cannot download the first main file (titled "DynDOLOD"). The file is hidden. Does this mean I cannot play Step- Skyrim until the file is unhiden? -

Ok, STEP:Extended is optional too, though, isn't it? What about Leanwolfe's Better Shaped Weapons by the way? ;) Also, can I use RLO instead of Enhanced Lighting for ENB Lite? -

Oh, okay. Thank you. The packs are optional, though? EDIT: just checked...the High Res DLC and Unofficial High Res Patch is not needed with Tony's Textures- not the High Definition Version anyway. The Standard does need them ;) -

@TechAngel85: Thank you again for your help. And goo to know- thought the text was appearing because I did something wrong. I installed BethIni now - so far everything runs fine. Up to the main menu- have not tested further. I will install PapyrusUtil then, thank you for the clarification. Ok, will double check whether it's needed and then install if it is ;-) STEP Extended means all mods that are not included in the Core, with the Packs (as far as I understood it, always optional?) combining mods that have been tested with STEP and each other, right? Meaning if I want a mod that is not included in any pack it has not been tested yet, is not safe to use or simply not compatible with STEP/redundant because STEP:Core includes it's changes. -

Sorry, double post again :/ If I skip STEP Optimized Textures in favour of Tony's Textures, should I skip the High Res DLC and the Unofficial High Res Patch? I assume they ARE needed, but I wanted to check before installing. Another thing...the Main Menu...is it normal, that I get this information: first, in white font: then, in red font: I am currently not using an ENB -

Good to know. Thank you :) I think I made two mistakes: 1) I did the Skyrim.ini- and SkyrimPrefs.ini- Tweaks (and enblocal.ini, too) already (I thought I had to install BethIni afterwards, alongside mod installation) 2) ...er...I did download Skyrim Performance Editor, but I never ran it (don't know why, I was probably a bit too tired to really do this -Can I fix those mistakes without reinstalling skyrim? 3) not a mistake...yet. But: PapyrusUtil...I read a few times while browsing (another topic, not papyrus logging and stuff), that Papyrus logging was actually dangerous and should not be done and on the PapyrusUtil nexus page, theres a warning that only advanced TES users should use it. I am probably being paranoid, but is it really safe to install? EDIT: And another question (did not install any mods yet): Natural Eyes. They look great, but I still prefer Xenius' Eyes...can I install Xenius' Eyes instead of Narutal Eyes? Like with Tony's texture, where I can skip the STEP Optimized Vanilla Textures? -

Thank you @TechAngel, I will try this. Can I later - after playing x hours/day/whatever - update the texture quality options without corrupting my save games? Meaning I deinstall them (including), then re-download and re-install higher quality textures? When I choose BethIni, I won't need to manually change the files, right? Would be no problem, just checking. Thank you. -

Ok, thanks. A question concerning MO and profiles. Since my system is currently not compatible with STEP (don't meet the requirements), could I download the mods required for S.T.E.P.: CORE into a profile, of course without changing Skyrim's ini files and then, when I have a good graphics card and processor (and whatever else I need concerning hardware), change the .ini files and activate those mods step by step? Or would that break my game? I would not use the STEP-Profile for anything before meeting the system requirements and making the INI file changes. (Regarding the ini-file changes: could someone point me to a step-by-step instruction to create those ini tweaks as a mini-mod (which I would then load into the STEP Profile). Its just that I don't want to have to delete my characters for other profiles (because I will play the game before I can properly start with STEP) because I am assuming those ini tweaks lead to a CTD when not combined with STEP? At least that is the only explanation we could find for my friends game CTD-ing at the loading screen when she launched the game without any mods but the tweaks. Of course, neither of us is particularly well versed in computer things so it's entirely possible we missed something.) What I mean to ask - and apologies that it was so long winded - can those ini tweaks break my game when I use them without the STEP-Setup? What if I don't like a mod that builds the STEP:Core? Is it all right if I do not install those that I really don't like? (I can't imagine there will be many if indeed any STEP: Core Mods I do not want to install though) EDIT: when I want to ask whether someone knows about a Mod's compatibility with STEP, do I post it in the subforum "Mods"? I am thinking of creating a Thread called "Do you know whether this Mod is compatible with STEP?" I would (and will, as soon as my system can handle STEP) test those mods myself but it would be great to collect them in one thread either way. If such a thread already exists...I did not find it. Might very well be my internet, it has behaved oddly these days. -

Apologies for the triple-post. I just realised I haven't got the Skyrim: High Resolution Texture Pack (Free DLC)Released: 7 Feb, 2012 Do I need to install it, even though it's long surpassed by mods? -

Reading the requirements, I'm afraid I currently do not have the system specs. :'( GPU-Vram = 1GB. Installing S.T.E.P.-Core later, when my system can actually deal with it, is that possible? I mean installing the Core-Mods into an excisting savegame, which already has a few gameplay-mods (as many as my system can take, possibly even a few textures). Of course, only Mods that work with Step:Core. -

OK, so I install Steam, MO, TES5Edit, Skyrim, Loot, WryeBash onto my computer (not under //C:) and direct MO's mod storage onto the external HD (1000Gb should be enough) OR to another place on my computer (also not //C:). -

Ok, thank you. One last question- for now, I'm bound to have more- I have an external hard disk drive with 1000Gb, is it wise to install Skyrim, MO, TES5Edit and Steam onto that? Not sure whether 1000Gb is enough - want to use a LOT of Mods. Or should I use the external Hard Disk for Mods (and backup saves) only (if at all)? -

Ok, thank you. I didn't know that. I'll watch Gophers video tutorials before I do anything ;-) Regarding texture mods- I want to use this tool (Ordenator) to compress them eventually (before installing any other mods or starting a new game)...or should I keep well away from this? Another quick question...the step guide requires a nvidiainspector? Is that to find out what my graphics card does? -

Thank you guys for all the nice answers! I will read the Citizenship guidelines now ;) @baronaatista + Aeradom: well, I am a huge fan of immersion and realism (I know, the word is abused a lot), so mods like Frostfall, Campfire, Footprints, Hunterborn, Nock-to-Tip, Real Bows, Follower Stealth AI, Immersive Patrols, Immersive Citizens, Civil War Overhaul, Dragon Combat Overhaul, Ultimate Combat, Enemy AI Overhaul and Enhanced Blood Textures are mods I want to use. Mods introducing new content are always interesting too, so long as I feel they are lore-friendly/or that it is content I believe should have been in-game from the start. Interesting NPCs, Inconsequential NPCs, a few animal follower-mods, Immersive Armors, JaySus Swords, Lean Wolfe's Better Shaped weapons, Mods that enhance stealth gameplay and mods that enhance playing as a Werewolf, like Moonlight Tales and Heart of the Beast. Immersive Horses, Left Hand Rings, Immersive Creatures and Immersive Sounds Compendium/Skyrim Audio Overhaul, or Better Thieves Guild Requirements, RS Children Overhaul, Community Uncapper and High Level Enemies. (The list goes on) And last but not least- Mods that make Skyrim look as real as possible and High quality textures. Especially the last part is...well, my system is not very good. My experience with Modding? I still view myself as a complete newbie, and my very first experience was that I completely shot my game. I installed too many mods, too fast and didn't watch out for compabilities at all. Afterwards, I watched Tutorials from Gopher, installed SKSE and Nexus Mod Manager (want to switch to Mod Organizer, though and for that I'll also use Gopher's videos) and began to use LOOT and TES5Edit. I also tried to read through everything before installing a mod, checking compability and stuff. Tried being the keyword. As far as I know, I indeed have no conflicting Mods currently (not according to LOOT anyway), but I made the mistake of installing quickly and many with the result that I don't really know which mod does what. No, actually, the far bigger problem is that I've found so many mods I like, that tweak the game how I want it and my PC being as low-end as it is simply cannot take so much new content. It's lagging, a lot. That is how I eventually came to STEP. So my goal is to make a stable game with as many mods as I can. Preferably with all those Grafics and Texture Packs but more likely without those. At first. Because I am saving up for a good gaming processor and Graphics card. And I am assuming that I can install the graphic/texture mods onto an existing save. At the moment, I still have mods installed through Nexus Mod Manager, but I am not playing and I am going to delete them, and reinstall Skyrim. Don't know whether I can reinstall Steam, but I'm hoping that will not be necessary? I ask because the STEP Guide wants new users to begin with new and clean installations of Steam and Skyrim. -

Hello Audley, thank you so much for the Guide. Will go through it ASAP (could take a bit, RL ). I will definitely create my personal mod list once I feel confident enough. ^^ (Already am a bit, although it's more a collection of mods I like). Thank you for your quick answer and I will definitely ask questions. Here's one quick question: Should I start a new thread for each question (if I don't find it via the search function that is) or is it better to create one Thread for all my questions? Greetings, Dovah
