STEP extended v2.2.9.2 setup finished - just a few minior issues

Question

Hallo,

 

so I finished building my new STEP extended 2.2.9.2 setup yesterday. My last build was 2.2.9. and it was in 2014. It worked fine after I invested some time and tinkered with it and in the end I was able to place a stable (more or less) custom Requiem built on top. Happy years of Skyrim gaming followed.

 

I have tested the extended setup for a hour now, done the intro Helgen dungeon, visited some of the cities while running at speedmult 500 in tcl and god mode. No CTDs.

 

And hell, You guys You have really made STEP better than it was before!!! My game runs realy nice, there is no micro stuttering when I run through woods, everything runs smoother - I have compared it with a new game with my old STEP extended 2.2.9 setup.

Thank You all for this great guide and compilation.

 

But there are minior things I have to ask. They would not bother my in a gaming session but as I was testing the setup I was more observant. Here they are, maybe someone can give my a solution or explanation for them:

 

1. My first gamestart led to a CTD just when the cart intro started. I opened Wrye Bash and discovered two patches with the orange checkbox: STEP Extended Patch.esp and hearthfireextended.esp. Guess the mods were missing its masters so I tried to use TES5Edit to sort the masters. It was ok with heartfireextended.esp but I got an error on the STEP Extended Patch.esp. In Wrye Bash STEP Extended Patch.esp still has an orange checkbox. hearthfireextended.esp checkbox is green.

I restarted the game and had no CTD since then.

Any clues what I might have done wrong or why I can't sort STEP Extended Patch.esp masters?

 

 

2. While shooting some attacking wolves with a bow one of them came very close when I delivered the final shot: the killcam started but the wolf hit me and the animation ended leaving my character stuck with the halfdrawn bow in his hand. I had to enter weapons menu and unequip the bow manually. Sheating did not work here.

Just ab bug or could I have crewed up something?

 

3. In my old STEP setup every guard is wearing his shield on the back when not using it. In my new setup, while my character automatically puts his shield on the back after sheating, all guards still hold their shields in the hand.

What could have gone wrong here?

 

4. In the Helgen dungeon I had to reload after I tried to change weapons: In the menu I first equiped an axe, then a sword and dagger. After exiting menu and mouseclicking for drawing nothing hapened, I could not draw weapons anymore. Reloading solved the problem, never happened again.

 

5. When I overlooked the mountains outside Helgen I found tiny bits of mountain textures that were still flickering. It was not very bad, but I never have seen this in my old setup. Just one tiny, white, geometrical shape, very far away. 

Can I get rid of it by changing some settings?

Here's my take, but maybe someone else has some ideas:

 

1. See this regarding the STEP Extended Patch and this regarding Hearthfire Extended.

 

2. Not sure what's going on there. Definitely keep an eye on that if it keeps happening.

 

3. Check your Dual Sheath Redux settings in the MCM menu.

 

4. I wouldn't trust anything weird happening in the Helgen intro until you are out of the cave for a while. Too many scripts starting. This issue sounds weird, and I haven't heard of that before, but I would worry a lot less about it simply because it was in the Helgen intro.

 

5. Not sure, hard to diagnose without a screenshot. And I don't know much about graphical glitches anyway. Is VSync enabled?

 

Also, you do not need any of the Better Quest Objectives patches, as they are included in the STEP Extended Patch.

Forgot to answer sooner, sorry.

 

Reverted to unclean hearthfireextended.esp no problems ingame. The first CTD with the setup must have been a hickup.

 

3.) In MCM shield on back for NPC was checked, but I have not encountered guards with shields in hand while testing further.

 

5.) It could be the Z-Fighting issue. Will look into it later.
