I couldn't help but notice both Neo and Root also dabble in modding the Witcher 3 ( many thanks for doing the hard work of scouting for mods for us :D ), and since I've only just got HOS, I'm in the process of planning a new play through.

I've posted this on the official forums and reddit, but no-one was able to reply in a satisfactory manner. Maybe, there's some hope here after-all !

Let me preface that I absolutely love sharpening. In Witcher 2 levels. People seem to hate it, maybe my eyes are wrong, I don't know. I absolutely love it. Furthermore, I have associated high sharpening with the witcher series, mostly because Witcher 2 had lots of it, and I've played it so much.

Enter Witcher 3: When freeroaming, the High setting is just gorgeous (again, to me :P). However, when in dialogues/cutscenes, it seems to be completely gone.

Now, I didn't mind it at first, in fact, it actually took me a while to notice. But when I did, well, I won't go as far as to say it ruined the game for me, but it keeps showing up.

These are some old screenshots I took for my thread on the official forums, which can maybe help indicate what I'm talking about:

Dialogue Scene:15tygHw.png

Free roam, same-y angle: A1xBULk.png

What specifically draws my attention, is the wood: Sharpening makes it feel more grainy, more real.

I've tried using some SweetFX presets (with sharpening) to achieve that effect, but it's not quite the same (I'm not completely sure, but it feels like SweetFX applies sharpening to the whole screen, whereas in game it's more pronounced on some objects than others) .

I have not, however, tried Reshade. I'm not getting my hopes too high for that either, though.

So I guess my question is, could Reshade possibly "fix" this?

What other options are there? Am I seeing things?

I think that is because people prefer LOD biasing. If one used both LOD biasing and sharpening then the overall effect would be worse than using neither.

sharpening is OK but in comparison to LOD biasing, sharpening doesn't add any detail, I believe it enhances the edges which will have a positive and negative effect.

LOD biasing can provide more detail but can cause textures to appear sparkly.

I forget the specifics of LOD biasing in Witcher 3 but I believe they blended it with the sharpening slider on high

This is probably the best place to ask instead of creating a new topic, but are there any good water mods yet? I only ask because months and months ago MontyModMonster asked me to help out with the textures, but this was before the kit release. I asked him to get back to me, but I have not heard anything since. I still don't  have the game as I am waiting for the GOTY, but I am just wondering if anything cool has happened with water and perhaps landscape or foliage?

No and no.

The only water retex availble is for water splashes (did't test it yet) and for landscape we have a single rock retex for Skellige... It looked identical to vanilla on screenshots, so I didn't even bother testing it.

Weird, but at least you csn count on a rock retexture straight away, huh? How easy is it to mod and replace the textures?

Do you mean in terms of exporting/importing? Or in terms of actually making them for the meshes at hand?

Exporting/Importing is relatively simple, actually. Not Skyrim simple, but nothing as complicated as, say, Dragon Age : Inquisition.

Making them for the specific meshes though, well, I wouldn't know.

Thanks! Where are all the retextures then? If it's quite simple, is that just to do with the modding community not being as large? It's just if I were to change anything about W3 it would be the water surface normal maps. Now I don't think that about every game, or even look specifically for water, but it just really stood out in this game compared to the rest of the scenary.

Rustine did quite a few. From what he was saying is he's working on the armours first, then it'll be other stuff.

Making nude mods? Literally, the front page is full of them :P

I was saying this to a few people last week. It seems to be the topic at hand - fantasy.  Go and look at the hot files for Fallout games on the Nexus, it is very rare to see these kind of mods. That is why I actually prefer scenes like Fallout because it's not filled with fleshy companions and doll women 24/7. I'm assuming it scares females interested in modding away, because it certainly makes me cringe. By the way I'm sorry if I took over this topic, but the answer to the original question was in fact it is tied into another setting and can't be changed yet?

By the way, if you guys want to do a quick water replacement mod and can provide the files, I am free from RF for a while. Just PM me.
