This is a FREE roguelike zombie survival game. It only has ASCII screens so no graphics. However, it is very detailed and alot of fun. The game is open source and they post the code on GITHUB. Modders are encouraged to participate and work with the core group to role mods into the main branch (if you want). They just funded a kickstarter. One of the guys agreed to work for next to nothing to enhance the game.

A roguelike is a game with a randomized world everytime you start and features permadeath(game over if you die once). The interface is clunky and not 100% intuitive, but there is a good wiki. The team is pushing out features quickly so the interface suffers some. There is even a nightly build you can download. The download is small. There are alot of people who came over from the Dwarf Fortress community (another free roguelike).

Features:

-- very detailed crafting and construction. you can make and take apart just about anything. You can even make drugs, lighting, radios, pots, etc...

-- many types of zombies. More than just zombies. There is a sci-fi element and wildlife.

-- many buildings, towns, and locations with more added all the time. FEMA camp where all the FEMA people went zombie, hospitals full of zombies, Science Labs,

giant bees, deadly fungus

-- if your a gun nut your in luck. Every kind of gun you can think of and you are welcome to add more. Along with melee and archery

-- location based damage system. Your leg gets broken, you have to splint it or go to a hospital

-- no levels. 100% skill based. Skills go up by using them. There is a unique morale system. higher your morale, the faster your skills go up. If you don't use skills they go down.

-- you get hungry, thirsty and can die of this.

-- seasons and weather that affect game play

as I stated there are no graphics. So its not like skyrim. Its also pretty hard to get into with a high learning curve. It is alot of fun once you get into it.
