Ok, here's where I am. Fresh install of SKYRIM. Followed STEP guide changing ini files etc, launcher prefs, and GPU reccomendations (AMD). I have downloaded a ton of mods from the STEP list, they are sat in a folder on my STEAM drive along with my STEAM version of SKYRIM. I have WYRE SMASH 304 (standalone) and BOSS Userlist Manager  v. 6. 6. 1. Wyre shows 'ticked' - skyrim and update esm - the three texture esps and bash pastch esp - plus four unsubsribed mods unticked from steam workshop. I have used NMM before I was having trouble with some conflict or other, so I moved over to STEP and WYRE. I know the mods have to be extracted and then copied over to skyrim/data - The extracted mod produces a data folder, with files (ESP'S etc) (little white things!!!) which were copied and pasted into skyrim/data - Is this correct? What I can't see is how these utilities work? Really I need step by step guidance from where I am now. Thanks! :D
