Melonking

I am getting game freezing during combat, particularly in brawl situations. I have read that this can be fixed by removing script heavy mods such as enhanced blood textures. However I cant remove enhanced blood due to it being a requirement of the STEPS extended patch. The game locks up on the loading screen if I try and remove the steps extended patch, or replace it with the core patch. What would be the best way to fix the freezing then?
