So I decided to re-install and start modding a few days ago and I seem to be having a few issues. I made it through the STEP Extended and still have 45-62 FPS. So I decided I wanted to add the REGS stuff in as well. Well then it all went to ****. 0-5 FPS in and around the cities and guaranteed CTD in Whiterun. So I deactivated all the REGS mods and reactivated them one at a time. It seems the main problem is the JK's mods violently having its way with my FPS. Sadly at the moment I only have 6gb of RAM, it is the next upgrade on my list, but for the time being do I need to just not mess with REGS? Also are there any STEP recommended NPC "overhauls" to make the general populace look a little better? and, When adding the WALL items do I need to make a merged patch? I think I had to do that the last time I did a lot of item adding mods so that they would all be in the game properly but I can't remember.

I must not have hit save or something when I changed it. I got it fixed now though thx.

Well I did that but it still killed my frame rate :/

Well I went through and made the changes you guys were suggesting and it bumped my performance quite well. I still get a huge range from 25-52ish fps. I think I'm just gonna have to pass on the enb for now. I like the look for the most part but I would rather have the higher frame-rate so that its smoother playing. the occasionally choppy frame rate really takes away from just playing the game. I'm doing all this on my laptop so to have it running as well as it is makes me plenty happy. I'm working on putting together a computer for home so I'll revisit this stuff when I have more hardware capabilities.(of course by then we will be modding the hell out of fallout 4 hopefully!!!) Thanks again for helping me out so much.

Could you give me a little definition of some of those acronyms? specifically SSAO I'll go through again and see if I can get it working.

Mission Accomplished!!! Thank you guys so much for all your help and this great guide!!! EDIT: Well then I got to the city. In heavily populated areas fps drops into the 10's and single digits. Any ideas on tweaks that might help with this? EDIT 2: Nevermind I found the performance options folder and took care of it. the DOF seems to wreak havoc in the cities for me. EDIT 3: ok so after messing with it for about two hours I went ahead and removed the ENB altogether. It looks amazing and works really well most places but all the cities and some dungeons just absolutely murder my system. In cities I can't even properly move the fps rape is so bad. Personally I just want the option for the more vibrant colors I don't really care for the DOF as much. Is there a way or option to get the colors without melting my computer?

Ok so I got everything working pretty darn well so far, I do have a couple of more questions though. For some reason when I am walking outside shadows and some texture details will just suddenly "snap" into place. especially shadows. Is there a way I can smooth this out? also. Im using ELFX and CoT and interiors look absolutely amazing and I'm still getting upwards of 55fps. However when I'm outdoors the colors look kinda bland. Is there a way to get more vibrancy out of the landscape? I tried to install RealVision ENB since I liked the screens and I couldn't get it to work so I just rage quit cause I couldn't get it to work right. for some reason it just made everything look like it was simply not loaded. comparison indoors vs outdoors. https://imgur.com/a/k6f7K

alright so before I started all over (again) I checked and I did not install the HDDLC optimized. In the detailed instructions it said if you have over 1.5vram don't use it so that is probably why I skipped it. Either way I installed it, using the hybrid setting and suddenly I'm killing at 45-60 non stop. YAY!!! I went in and disabled the SFO for kicks and giggles and it bumped me up to 54-63 FPS so idk if I want to leave it turned off or not I kinda like it but at the same time I'm not super picky and idk if I can tell enough of a difference yet. As I said earlier I was wanting to add Immersive weapons and armors, and if I can possibly make it work CoT and RLO. Any suggestions on load order?

Yeah for some reason it is just not installing all the files. Â I went through and manually dropped in the meshes in for it and it showed up in game. Â I got all the the mods I wanted from STEP installed and I am maintaining 45-60 FPS. Â I think it was the fact that the beginning of the guide said to turn on Supersampling and I just cant quite handle it. Â I'm gonna try to see if I can figure out how to maybe make some improvements using ddsopt and maybe cut out the stuttering I'm getting indoors. Â I was hoping to be able to use climates of tamriel, realistic lighting overhaul, and both the immersive armors and weapons mods. Â I'm not sure where I would drop them in the load order if anyone has any suggestions. Changing the AA didn't make a difference but when I turned off Supersampling and put it back on multisampling it fixed it. Â I tried turning off AA and installing SMAA but it just made everything super bright white.

Ok So I worked my way through all the mods twice and I was able to get a few frames regained here and there but nothing significant. So I backed up the mod istall files and cleaned out my skyrim directory and re-verified to start completely over. I also reset my amd catalyst control panel to defaults and then made sure that mod organizer deleted the modified ini's. So I started a character completely vanilla according to the skyrim launcher's auto detect settings and played through till I was out of helgen. Then made two saves One for a completely vanilla save and one to work on. I also created two profiles in MO one for vanilla and one for mods. 1. I then installed SKSE and ran it = No change 2. I then made the suggested ini changes according to 2.2.7 and set up my catalyst control scheme as well. 3. loaded the save and immediately noticed that I went from a steady 57-60 down to 38-45fps. 4. I went in and loaded the vanilla mod with the unchanged ini's, but left the catalyst settings - no change still lowered FPS 5. I reset the catalyst settings to default and ran the vanilla profile - back up to 60FPS 6. I then ran the profile with the edited ini's through MO using SKSE and it retained the 60FPS So apparently the catalyst profile changes are making a huge difference which doesn't make sense, since the settings match the skyrim launcher settings. EDIT: So far I am 1/3 of the way into the STEP mods and the only thing I have not done is setup the CCC according to STEP instructions, but I'm retaining my 60fps so Im not going to. I did get to SMIM and even with nothing installed after it and no overwriting conflicts there are still no dang 3d ropes and I can't seem to find a way to manually install it.

Now we are talking about things I do not know how to do or understand....  :/ EDIT: Wow....I feel like a bit of a tool now but I was looking at the wrong "v"ram  I was referencing Virtual Memory not Video Memory...my bad.  I Have 2048 dedicated and 2791 shared.  My Virtual Memory is set at 9141 right now, do you know if that is where it should be or do I need to adjust it.  That is the (recommended) setting by windows.

Couple of questions, 1. Are you using an ENB? 2. Are any of your textures 2048? 3. What exactly is your VRAM, as you dont state it in your opening? The best way I to find the exact problem of your fps loss is by taking nearox advise and turn off each mod 5 at a time. Sooner or late, you will see which mod is causing your major fps loss and thus find a solution to your problem. Now regarding your smim not working properly, I would suggest a manual installtion at this point. No I am not using and ENBÂ None of the textures are over 1024 and my VRAM is at 9141 I went through deactivating them 5 at a time and Idk if I didnt do it right or something but nothing seemed to change, but I'm also tired and its to early to be doing this I'll do it all over again tomorrow and see if I can nail it down. Thank you guys for the help, its always nice to be able to communicate with a friendly and helpful community.

Ok that totally fixed the FPS problems for Vanilla Skyrim. However with the mods the drop still persists. I'm going to go compare 2.2.3 and 2.2.7 and see what major changes where made and go from there with removing textures and such to get it back to normal. However the SMIM missing mesh updates still persists.

Ok so I ran some tests on the vanilla game: On ALL settings "low, medium, high, ultra" when looking at a distance or moving outside in the open I'm getting 20-35 FPS. When I get near a cave/dungeon entrance/building FPS jumps to 55-62. Indoors, both caves and buildings, FPS wildly fluctuates between 35-62. This does not seem to be affected by combat either. I really feel like I am missing something simple I had these same exact problems when I first started using STEP and I was able to fix them but I can't remember how. TOTAL DERP EDIT: I remember how I fixed it. I hooked up my ps3 controller and played for about an hour using MotionJoy 360 emulator. I remember telling someone that fixed it and no one seemed to know why. I don't have a console anymore so IDK if I'll be able to reproduce the effect. I've checked the mouse acceleration and its turned off. Also I tried just activating SMIM and it still does not place the 3d rope meshes.

I checked the grass tweaks: changed the second line from 75 to 40. No major change. I first disabled the distance terrain & LODs, 1-5 fps bump, tried completely removing them still no more than a 1-5 fps bump.
