  1. Not as far as I can tell though I haven't played for more than half an hour at a time because I'm trying to fix the lag issue. Some folks are suggesting adding the following lines to the Skyrim.ini:uExterior Cell Buffer=64uGridsToLoad=7iPreloadSizeLimit=51380224Think it would help?
  2. I didn't want to run FNIS again since that was the mod that seemed to be causing CTD in the intro but since I'm passed that I turned it on, reran the patches and rebuilt the bashed patch and then booted it up. The shield is now on my back as it should be. I tweaked some things here and there based on advice from various forums and videos and have improved it a good deal. I was wrong earlier about my framerate inside buildings. It was over 250 before I turned on VSYNC a couple of days ago. Since then it tops out at 60.1. I'm still getting a screen jerk and a reduction in FPS every five seconds or so when I'm running around that's quite annoying but I haven't found a fix for it yet. I'm not sure how to turn down the buffered frame rate (assuming that's different from turning on triple buffering which I did), care to walk me through it?
  3. I believe it was FNIS as it was the only mod that consistently made me crash when nearing Helgen Keep and now that I've turned it and the XPMS mod off (for the custom skeleton) it's stopped crashing. Now I'm experiencing some fairly heavy lag/stuttering though. I have Vsync on and I went into my Nvidia settings and turned on Triple Buffering as some folks suggested and then went to the graphics settings and turned them down from ultra to high. I even tried turning all my settings to low and I still had significant lag and still has a frame rate drop from 60 to 10 when entering a new area. If any of that helped it was very minimally. I have a good computer setup and I get about 60fps when outside and as much as 250fps when inside a building so I can't figure out what is causing the lag/stuttering. That said, I know very little about this stuff so maybe I'm making a total newb mistake here. Any advice would be appreciated as I can't play while it's jerky (it triggers massive nausea and eventually a migraine). My other issue is that my shield is stuck to my feet. As in, if I jump, you can see the sheild under my feet like it's a hover board. I know one of the STEP mods moves some of your weapons and stuff to your characters back and I guess it's not working right. Maybe I should turn that mod off but after working so hard to get the game running properly I'm kind of terrified to change anything for fear that it will cause a ripple effect that makes the game unplayable again. I realize these issues are completely related to my initial problem but I'm not sure where to seek help for them. If you think I should move this to another forum could you suggest the appropriate forum?
  4. Played for an hour and so far so good. I'll update if anything pops up. Thank you again, you guys rock!
  5. My overwrite folder is empty. STEP has you create a dummy folder for each mod (FNIS, DSR and Bash) that put files in your Overwrite folder when you rebuild the patches for those mods. It tells you to put the files generated from that process in the corresponding dummy folder, so my Overwrite is empty. Is that what you meant? Or do you mean I should empty the dummy folders? Sorry if I'm being dense. You really have to explain this stuff to me like you would a child, step by step, or I just won't understand.
  6. It took me all night but I've finally got it narrowed down. The following mods are causing problems: 1. Audio Overhaul for Skyrim - Was causing some weird mouse lag that would make it seem like my mouse cursor was stuck on something and then abruptly let go and then get stuck and let go etc. It made it impossible to move or select things with the mouse. After checking all the other mods and repatching I tried this mod again and it suddenly worked with no mouse lag. 2. Consistent Older People 22a All NPCs CRF BOYD Compatible - This is the file that STEP instructs you to install in section 2.D. Fixed. When testing mods to see which ones caused problems, this one caused me to crash on startup of the game. I tested it three times and it always crashed. When I finished finding the other wonky mods I decided to give this one another shot to be sure and for no reason that I know, it no longer causes me to crash. It seems stable for now so for the time being I'll leave it enabled. 3. Immersive Hud - Makes my crosshairs blink on and off whether I'm facing something I can interact with or not. Maybe this is intentional, I don't know. I fixed it by changing the settings within the mod settings in the game to have the crosshairs always on. 4. Nightingale Price HD - I can't recall if it was causing me to crash or have the mouse stutter lag. Whatever, it started working too. Starting to think I'm loosing my marbles at this point. 5. Improved Horse Step Sound - Same as 4. Definitely going bonkers. 6. FNIS - This was the mod causing me to crash to desktop when I would get close to Helgen. After checking that all other mods worked properly, including those listed above which previously malfunctioned, I enabled FNIS again and, you guessed it, it worked. Who knows? My best guess is that I'm under a gypsy curse or something. Maybe I was running the patches in the wrong order or maybe the universe just likes to mess with me. Either way it seems to be working. I'll start a new game this afternoon and see if it still works. As for me I have to get some sleep. Thank you both again, you guys were awesome! Here's my Bashed Patch Log in case it helps anyone:
  7. All right ladies/gents, I have 2GB of VRAM so that's not the problem, so we're down to turning off/on mods to narrow it down. I've unchecked the files you said I could turn off to save time and I'm going to run the game with no mods at all to see if the problem is perhaps with the Skyrim install and not the mods and if that works I'll move on from there. If the game crashes even with no mods on, is there any way to reinstall the game without having to go through and reinstall all 277 STEP mods or will I just have to bite the bullet and reinstall from scratch?
  8. ::sigh::Ok so I did all the stuff you guys suggested including turning of the redundant racemenu mod and the skytest mods and repatching it all and altering the ini to turn vsync on. I still CTD on the way to Helgen. Could it have anything to do with these files being red?
  9. Hishtup:My enblocal.ini says: I rebuilt the patch and the bash file is green now, I think. When you say all the files need to be green do you mean that the check box next to it needs to be green or the file name? Because in Wrye Bash, some file names are blue, some are green and some are black but they all have a green check box and green checkmark next to them.
  10. Hishutup:Ok, so I started a new game, after running the two patches but leaving SkyTest running as you said, and using the console command to skip the intro. I ran around for ten minutes forcing areas to load, getting sent to jail, talking to npcs and entering various buildings. I had no problems aside from microstuttering. So no CTD which means....? At worst out in the open world I get 45 fps and in building I get as much as 250fps if that means anything. If I use Alternate Start, is there an option to have it put me just outside Helgen? I'd like to continue the game as it was designed but I'm so sick of the wagon ride intro especially since it seems to crash the game.If I uncheck Skytest in the mods list of Mod Organizer then Bashed Patch. 0.esp turns red/orange in left panel of Wrye Bash and the masters update.esm, dragonborn.esm, hearthfires.esm and SkyTEST-realistic animals&predators.esm are orange/red. I'm more than happy to turn SkyTest mods off if it fixes the game but then what do I do to fix the bashed patch file?Nozzer66:So any mod that isn't green in Wrye Bash I should run through Tes5Edit and tell it to sort masters correct? I checked RaceMenu and there is a grey bolt of lightning. The list of mods it says it's conflicting with is VERY long. I'll add a picture to my imgur album to give you an idea of some of the files. I did notice a couple things. First, I have both RaceMenu and RaceMenu v2-9 in my mod list which seems odd and I also noticed that the files for RaceMenu are in the optional bottom panel, should I move them up to the top panel (see new pics)? When I do the lightning bolt turns yellow with a little red minus sign.I just wanted to say I really appreciate the help from both of you. I know it's frustrating to try to explain this to someone who isn't familiar with the code. All this is basically gibberish to me, I just do what you tell me to but I have no idea how it affects things or why. I'm sorry if I'm being dense about this stuff, I really am trying to understand but it's just not my area of expertise. So thank you again for your patience!
  11. If I understand correctly, you're asking me to list the mods I'm using that aren't part of the STEP protocol? If so, that would be:Unread Books GlowStones Of Berenziah Quest MarkersKS Hairdos 265Book Covers SkyrimAnd now you're saying to disable Skytest mods and then try running the game?
  12. Sorry, I didn't realize ini settings could be considered spoilers. What spoilers do they contain?
  13. First, thank you for the help!I did everything you both said and I had a terrible time getting it set up properly but it did help. I can get past the character creation now, and my Step Extended Patch.esp is no longer orange. The red of the images I posted are the same, files showing up red and I have no idea if it matters or not. Now I crash as I enter Helgen Keep. I've read on other forums than using any mods before exiting Helgen can cause the game to crash so you should leave all mods disabled until you get to the first town and then load them. Is that true, could that be why I keep crashing at Helgen? Also, is there a limit to how many mods you can run in the game at one time? I followed the STEP guide and ended up with, I think, 275 mods just from that. This has been a very frustrating experience. I've played lots of games with mods and never had this many problems. And while the STEP guide is great for folks who MAKE mods and are familiar with coding/programming and the various programs associated with it (Tes5Edit, Boss, Loot, Wrye Bash, etc) it's not written in a way easily understandable by the laymen. If you have any further advice, I would love to hear it. Just remember to write it as if you're instructing a child with step by step instructions otherwise I'll likely struggle with it. Thank you again for your assistance!
  14. Please forgive me, I don't know anything about modding and I'm not great with computers. I've spent the last four days installing and meticulously making sure I've done everything exactly as instructed in the STEP 2.2.9 guide to set up STEP: Extended on a clean fresh install of Skyrim. Between MO, LOOT, FNIS, Wrye Bash and Tes5Edit it's been a steep learning curve for me and I'm overwhelmed.Wrye Batch shows the Step Extended Patch.esp file as red, which I think means it's missing some master files. I'm also getting some errors in other places. It's probably easier if I just show you.I've also attached a text doc of my mod list, which is almost entirely STEP:Extended Mods, in case that helps. If there's a better way to show my mod list please let me know.I'm at my wits end and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and assistance! Mod List.txt
