Haven't played Skyrim since 2012--need advice, please :)
AdventureGirl replied to AdventureGirl's question in General Skyrim LE Support
Thanks. :) I actually am willing to let anyone just give me their build ideas, so long as it's under $1350. For days now I've tried doing it myself with various tips, but every time I get one part down, another one is said to be better or something isn't compatible. Considering my noobness with everything, I'm just sighing in defeat and listening to those more knowledgeable than me, LOL! I've also tried on different sites, but no one seems to really incorporate or know about modded Skyrim with GPUs and such. I'm sorry that I wasn't as open before, I thought I knew what I wanted, but clearly I don't, haha. I do want a case with good ventilation and blue LED fans/lighting, though, even if the LEDs must be separate. Oh, and if possible, the parts be blue, or at least no clash with a blue/black/white build. Thanks! P.S. Going to go back through your links, Phazer, though it may be easier to make a build list fresh without my stuff already in it since I'm starting over. :) -

Would this be overkill for now and future? https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ Though I don't see any storage added yet and it's already $1400. -

Okay, I think I might have something based on stuff said mixed with my own ideas: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/p/w7WLdCPrice breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/p/w7WLdC/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock H97 PERFORMANCE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($74.99 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($84.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($104.99 @ NCIX US) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($55.98 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($349.99 @ NCIX US) Case: NZXT H440 (White/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($109.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: XFX 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $1130.89Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2014-08-22 12:10 EDT-0400 There is also a Red/Black case for the H440, but I wanted to have some sort of blue lighting, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-CB-LED20-BU-2-Metres-Sensitivity-Sleeved/dp/B0046Y5Z5G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=pc+led If I did the Red/Black case though, it'd be the red version of those lights:https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-CB-LED20-RD-2-Metres-Sensitivity-Sleeved/dp/B0046Y1622/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=NZXT++red+led Would the White/Black get dirty easily do you think, or more like the Wii, which never looks bad? I chose the H440 because it has 4 fans, sound proofing for less noise, good quality. Thoughts? :) -

Well, I actually wouldn't be able to use the DVD as this current PC will be going to my father, whose PC is on its way out. :) And I'm willing to go up to $1350. -

Thanks for the links, checking them out. I actually graduated college so I don't have the college discounts anymore, unfortunately. Those are a bit higher than what I wanted my budget to be, unfortunately. I'd like to not go over $1250-1275 -

Okay, I tried to use this picker myself…did I do okay? Is 8GB sufficient? Do I need SSD? I’m playing on 1920-1080 by the way. Looks pretty good. Here is a picture of my desk though as I'm not sure if a full case would fit? Please excuse the quality, was taken at night on a cell phone. My monitor is 24 inch and plays on 1920x1080 resolution, by the way. -

Okay, I found something that might be a compromise between building it myself and pre-built. 1. Never owned Nvidia so I don't really have a reference...so far I've heard that AMD R9 270 is good as is GeForce 760/770? 2. I live in Pennsylvania, so the summers never usually go past 80 something. Have air conditioning int he house with the vent being next to my computer on the floor, if that helps? Would definitely want to build or buy a PC with good ventilation case. 3. I'd prefer not to go over $1250 at max. I don't need a mouse or speakers, would need operating system. Keyboard I'd like to change but doesn't have to be part of this build/buy. 4. Not sure how to do it, haha. -

Honestly I don't like the case at all. The usb ports and everything are at a angle and a lot of other things I just don't like about it, lol. -

Ah, well what if I kept my CPU and I guess RAM but got a new case and everything to put the new stuff in. Would that work, or would I be better off making it all new? I just don't want the processor or anything to go/die before the new stuff does, you know? By the way, one of my friends suggested this one, but I wasn't sure if it was any good? It's the "level 3" one: https://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish-ii.asp -

If I buy the parts separately, I have a friend who will help me build the PC he said. Just a matter of what parts. Though if there is a PC that is already pre-made and is $1000 or less, please link. :) Is this good at all for a pre-built? https://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-Ultra-GUA450-Desktop/dp/B00CF1T1SY/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-2&keywords=radeon+R9+270+2GB#productDetails -

Well, I have $2300 in the bank but I'd rather not spend most of it since I do have loans every month. I'd prefer to keep it $1000 or under, though I guess if I had to go over $1000 a bit I could. Just want to make sure I have enough money in bank. :) -

How would I figure out what graphics card would fit, though? I mean, my PSU and motherboard aren't fried right now, but my PC is at least 3 years old now, so I'm worried that buying one part will end up being useless a year from now or whatever, if that makes sense? As far as my income goes right now, I live at home still so I only pay a few hundred a month in expenses. I get paid again on the 26th and my current funds are a little over $2,000. -

Thanks for the suggestions so far, everyone! :: I'm actually considering buying a whole new PC since this once would almost take more money to upgrade/switch to a new case than a new one, since I know all of the components are getting worn out. I'm pretty sure this is way overpowered compared to what I have now to play Skyrim and such, but I found this:https://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-Ultra-GUA450-Desktop/dp/B00CF1T1SY/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-2&keywords=radeon+R9+270+2GB#productDetails Any idea what would be a little cheaper but still able to play games well, or is this the best for me for the price?Unless this was totally a bad choice, hahaha. -

Well, I was having a discussion with one of my PC friends, and they mentioned that my computer as it is right now might be too tight a fit for a new graphics card, and something about the i5 2500k 3.30ghz psu might not support a newer card based on plug in directly or something? Sorry if I completely butchered that. This PC I bought at the time on sale for $550 on Newegg: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspxItem=N82E16883229284 There are also pictures to show the inside of the PC. Awe, thanks! Will definitely do in chunks. :) Ah, that does make a lot more sense than the list I had from 2012 and now, haha. -

Sorry! I meant that I was new to modding and everything so I had no idea if those were good at all still to implement or if none of them were part of S.T.E.P/recommendations. Thanks :) Whew, okay, that should keep me busy then! :P In all seriousness though, thank you for responding. I do remember in 2012 I had some mouse sensitivity issues, but I probably also wasn't loading things correctly or something back then, too. I've heard that MO and LOOT are much better than what was around in 2012. :) P.S. If either of you (and anyone else who happens upon this thread) could give me an idea as to how to update my graphics card within the confines of my power wattage and everything, that'd be great. I recently found out my motherboard info via a program called CPU-Z and I have the link to my PC rig (Newegg). I'm sure there's something I could upgrade to that would give a decent jump up. I do know my power supply is I believe 600W. -
Hi, all. *waves* My name is Ashley--or Ash if you'd like--and I'm new to this site. :: I bought Skyrim in 2012, but had too much going on to ever get past The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller quest, haha. So, a lot has changed. When I last was in the know, NMM and BOSS were primarily used. I had a few mods added through NMM back then, but not too many as, again, I had little time. I would like to play Skyrim again (have all DLCs now), but I'm quite honestly lost. I've downloaded Mod Organizer and bookmarked mods that I thought would be worth looking into/I remembered from 2012, but I honestly have no idea if they're any good. I've looked at S.T.E.P. before, but this was at least a year ago. I don't have anything Skyrim related on my computer--the steam game is uninstalled and both the Skyrim folder in steamapp and My Games is deleted for (I think?) a fresh install. My system specs are as follows: -i5 2500k 3.30ghz not overclocked -8GB RAM -715+ GB space -AMD HD Radeon 6670 1GB <<<this is my weakest point, but I have no idea what graphics card I would upgrade to. I know I have 600W power supply. If you would like a Newegg link to the PC rig I own, please ask!
