I've finally managed to fix the Micro-stutter!! Ulrika!!! It's only taken ~1.5 years To anyone else having insane micro-stutter, who are running AMD 7970's (or equivalent) in Crossfire, try this - it's the ONLY thing that has fixed it for me and I've tried about 20-30 different 'fixes' over the course of my anguish. For info I'm running Catalyst 14.4 Drivers. In your enblocal.ini set the following lines as shown: Under [MEMORY] set... DisableDriverMemoryManager=true Under [WINDOW] set... ForceBorderlessFullscreen=false (Not needed because to utilise Crossfire you NEED to be running full screen) Under [ENGINE] set... EnableVSync=true (should be set at this by default if you followed S.T.E.P guidelines correctly) Under [LIMITER] set... FPSLimit=57.6 (Note I'm running 1920x1080 60Hz monitors so you may need to check your refresh rate and set a value -2.4 of maximum) The horrendously annoying "wall stutter" - especially in caves and the stutter when surrounded by dense flora outside is now GONE. Happy as Larry Game runs hell of a lot smoother too given that I now have the power of the second card at my desposal (2 x MSI Lightinings 3GB). To everyone who contributed to this thread in the past - thank you. I am sincerely grateful for your suggestions. -

Hi dude. Thanks for the prompt response :) I've used borderless window since about level 2 and haven't changed anything in relation to it since. Would you recommend I disable the redundant esp or would that have a detremental effect on the stability of the saves that are associated to it? I'll do whatever is necessary to ensure the continued stability of the game. I just want to keep playing as it's getting really good 😆 All the best buddy. -

Ok, Something strange is happening. I loaded my game today feeling quite apprehensive about the whole thing, and this time round, loading the save took about 30-40 seconds, as opposed to about 3-5s. So, I loaded a previous save indoors - loaded straight away. I went outside from that save and again, took about 30-40s to load. It's never taken this long before?? The loading screen varied from blank to the usual random animation showing. I went back to an older save (one BEFORE the CTD mentioned above) and the same thing happened. Don't get it! It's NEVER done this before, not in 32 levels! I bit the bullet and played anyway, for 3 hours straight, and noticed intermittent increased loading screens; especially when going from indoors to outdoors - but it wasn't 100% consistent. I didn't however get ANY CTD's. I did the Wulthraad (is that how you spell it?) questline for the Companions and during my visits to/from Whiterun, loading times varied from normal (3-5s) to high (30-40s), however one thing I noticed is that when it was taking a long time to load, the Windows spinning timer showed up. It's never shown that before - only now. Strange that I didn't get any CTD's though.... Is this normal behaviour? Is it attributed to the fact that the saves are increasing in size and it's just taking longer to process everything? If this is normal behaviour and others have experienced it then I won't worry, but if this is a sign that my game is tits I'll need to perform some remedial action i.e. hammer my pc to death. -

So the number of saves I have currently, and their respective size, is not excessive? Do the number of saves I have present compound this issue and am I ok to continue adding to this, as I tend to simply overwrite older saves depending on where I am and what I'm doing. If I'm ok to just have a unique save for everything I'd end up with about 5000 saves as I save so frequently; but I'm happy to do that if it doesn't bork the game! :) -

Thank you so much for your input - I value it very much! Apologies for not being clearer. Yes, my initial save was a clean save from a pristine vanilla install. What I did was: Reverted to pristine vanilla install as per STEP guide and checked integrity of game cacheInstalled unofficial patches only and played through Helgen sequenceWent to riverwood, saved inside an empty house calling it "clean save prior to mods" and began modding process/cleaning/sorting/bashed patch/testingOnce happy each mod worked and didn't cause issues issues I saved once more calling it "clean save after adding mods"Let MCM register the mods required (only 3 - SKYUI, Immersive Armours and Unread Books Glow)Played the game ensuring not to save over the two named saves aboveI'm hoping it is indeed a one off thing; as I'm desperate to keep playing as I'm enjoying it so so much; and I've got to have it working this time as my girlfriend is pregnant, I'm going to be a dad! (crapping myself) and she's due in Feb next year, so I've got to complete the game by then as I know I'll have no time left for anything once the baby is born! >< Thanks for the input buddy. Update: I read via multiple sources that it's a good idea to quit/reload Skyrim every hour or so to clear the game cache/memory in use in case the CTD is related to the 3.1GB engine limit. Hi All, I’ve been playing now without any glitches/issues for quite a while. Up to level 32 I hadn’t had a single CTD. The only issues I have is microstutter with Crossfire enabled, but this couldn’t be resolved even after posting on here and attempting all suggestions, so I’m running off one card using borderless window in enblocal.ini and set the fps limiter to 59 (I have 60hz 1920x1080 screens). The game still stutters in flora heavy areas, but I’m fed up of spending more time troubleshooting and tinkering than I am playing so I’m living with it (Note: I’ve been trying to play Skyrim now, just once, as a normal playthrough, since acquiring it over 2 years ago, and in that time I’ve restarted 8-10 times because of constant issues). Last night however, I had my first CTD at Fort Amol, whilst fighting a female mage. I killed her, went to loot and CTD. Took me by surprise and since then I’ve been nervous it’s going to continue and/or get worse. I’m playing the game nervously ‘expecting’ a CTD from nowhere, and this is what happened in the past with previous playthroughs (even vanilla with NO mods). I tried to replicate the issue having reloaded the game, loaded my last save (I use quicksave a lot because it’s convenient and I like using it) and went to Fort Amol and killed the same mage. No issues this time, so it’s seems random in nature. I would appreciate if anyone here can see any glaring error in my setup and/or mod list and give me their feedback about whether this is just something the game will continue to suffer from regardless, or if it’s something that can be addressed. My mod list is extremely conservative. I learned the hard way that less is more and to only install mods I can’t live without, then test extensively. All mods have been hand tested, individually, and are bang up to date. All were installed in order according to S.T.E.P 2.2.9 and following the detailed instructions for each mod, and having read each mods information page on Nexus for mod-specific things. I did the ‘speedmult 1500’ test for 30 mins at level 1 without any issues of any kind with a fully modded setup, so, I began my game. Here is some helpful information I can provide with regards my system, Skyrim, and setup: Hardware Windows 7 x64 Professional SP2 Fully Patched Rampage IV Extreme Mobo - BIOS 4004 Sandy Bridge-E 3930k @ 4.6Ghz (stable 24 hours with Prime 95, Linx and Intel Burn Test Extreme Profile and gaming on Diablo 3 for 10+ hours and no BSOD in over 12 months) 32GB GSkill RipJawZ RAM (2133Mhz X.M.P) Samsung 840 Pro SSD (Boot) - Latest Firmware OCZ Vertex 3 MaxIOPS (Games) - Latest Firmware (secure erased before installing Skyrim) Sound Blaster Titanium HD Sound Card 2 x MSI 7970 Lightning's 3GB in Crossfire running 14.4 Catalyst Drivers (not overclocked) more (mainly periphery and not relevant) but all is cooled with custom water loop (temps are way below TJmax and voltages are all within safety limits as advertised by Intel Specification Sheets) Skyrim ENBoost using ENB 0.261 (NO ENB graphics modifications used) SKSE 1.7.1 using Shesons Memory Patch embedded into Mod Organizer SKSE folder (NOT Skyrim folder) All texture mods used were 1k in size Auto-Save turned off everywhere in game Number of save games in my gamesskyrim = 25 Current save game file size = 6.1mb (char level 32) Wyre Bash shows top 20 saves as purple (including f5 save), bottom 5 as green (bottom were test saves) All dirty mods cleaned using TES5Edit All mods sorted using LOOT Bash patched created at the end of the modding process and installed as a mod within MO At the time of CTD VRAM usage was 1675/2984mb according to GPU-Z Dynamic VRAM usage was at 77mb GPU Load = 98% GPU Temp = 47 Degrees Here is my mod list: If anyone has any feedback regarding this it’d be appreciated. Not necessarily looking for a ‘solution’ just advice on whether it’s ok to continue playing as is, or if there’s something I need to change. I appreciate your time and look forward to any responses. Unfortunately I have no such option in my MCM as it just shows Immersive Armours, SkyUI and Unread Books Glow. I guess this is by design. Not to worry. Thanks for taking the time to reply 😊

Hi All, I've recently started playing after a partial S.T.E.P 2.2.9 install and have noticed something completely different to my extended install last October (I think it was version 2.2.6 at the time) in that I can't seem to smelt down my collected weapons/armour. I used to be able to do this in the past but I've no idea what mod (if any) allowed me to do this. Realising this, I researched via Google and noticed a DLC was available via Steam called "Smeltdown - Items to Ingots". Now, I've never used this before, but it seems obvious to me that this is obviously a feature that must be enabled via 3rd party mod - so I downloaded and installed it, ran LOOT and rebuilt my bashed patch. Upon testing, I could now smelt down my weapons/armour, but doing so no longer counts towards my blacksmithing skill O_o What on earth is going on! I've obviously missed something here; possibly a core fix/patch that addresses this. Anyone know of what I need to do to resolve this so I can smelt weapons/armour AND have it count towards my blacksmithing level? Many thanks Mal.

Don't worry I've installed the mods within the combined patch manually, run LOOT and all is well. No errors or warnings. I've rebuilt my bashed patch and copied the data from the overwrite folder to my bashed patch mod in the left hand pane of MO. Sorry I just couldn't get my head around the instructions as they're not specific enough for me, however I appreciate both the fact they're available for noobs like me and the time/effort you've spent creating them; as well as for the help I've received this far. Hi, Thanks again for the response :) Ok, so in my case, am I right in assuming I do the following (given that my modding process is 100% complete): Install the combined patch as a mod from with MOUncheck STEP Combined PluginHF.esp in the 'plugins' tab because I don't use HearthfireRun LOOT and sort pluginsHighlight STEP Combined Plugin.esp and change priority to 986000Disable SMIM-FurnitureChestSnowFix.esp, SMIM-DragonbornTernFix.esp, SMIM-DungeonsCliffsIceSkirts.esp, SMIM-ShackRoofFixes.esp, & SMIM-ShackRoofFixesDragonborn.espThat's it?I in the above example, you mentioned RW2; I don't use that but I do use W.A.T.E.R so I don't know if that applies to me and I'll be honest I still don't understand the use of "load after" or what plugin(s) I must drag and drop because there are lots listed and I just don't know which is supposed to be loaded after what, where, how etc. That's why I downloaded LOOT as I want it to manage all that for me. All I want is to install the combined patch and get it working with my current (and tested working) list of mods but it seems like its just too convoluted. If the above steps I posted are not correct, please let me know as I'd rather just install the mods within it manually rather than do something wrong with the load order bit and chance breaking my game in the long run. Hi, Thanks for the response. I can confirm that is the page I was using prior to posting along with https://wiki.step-project.com/LOOT/Meta_Rule_Instructions however my previous post still applies unfortunately. The steps outlined didn't provide enough information for me to feel entirely comfortable with the install procedure; especially the bit about "Select the plugin requiring lower loading" - as it doesn't state 'what' plugin, or if this is entirely generic based on what plugins you have installed. Does it mean to select one or all of the plugins listed in the conflicting plugins pane (there's about 20 listed for me)? It states to "drag and drop the conflicting plugin" but when you don't know what plugin(s) you should be moving, especially when you have 20+ it makes it very difficult to feel comfortable with proceeding given that you could potentially bork the game before you start. Apologies if I'm making this sound more complicated than it actually is. I'm happy with the priority bit; that's not an issue, it's just the bits beforehand as its not specific enough for my overly logical mindset. If its easier to simply download the mods within the combind patch i.e. more salt please, no spinning death etc. and install them manually, I'll do that, so long as it doesn't affect my ability to play game with stability. As previously mentioned, my modding process was complete prior to attempting to install the combind patch (I did testing with speedmult 1500/tlc/god mode for 15 mins and had no crashes) so I wanted to make sure I did it right. Hello :) I just tried installing the STEP Combined Patch but I'm unsure how to proceed because the detailed instructions don't seem to reflect the options presented to me. Namely: Launch LOOT through Mod Organizer. (Done) Click Sort Plugins. (Done) Select the plugin requiring lower loading (when a plugin is loaded lower than another plugin, it wins the conflict). (What plugin do I select? Is it STEP Combined Plugin.esp? There are many present, including STEP Combined PluginHF.esp which MO flags as a problem - I don't use Hearthfire, so I just unchecked this in the plugins tab)Toward top right, tick the Show only conflicting plugins box. The list of plugins will be much shorter as only conflicting plugins are shown. (Done) Drag and drop the conflicting plugin into the Load After window. (Which conflicting plugin, there's about 20!) Click Apply. The load order will be dynamically reordered applying the rule just created. (Not done) Click Apply again to accept the new load order. (Not done)I should point out that my modding process is done, so I'm adding this patch AFTER everything else has been added for my partial STEP. Also, there are a few non STEP mods in there such as Immersive Weapons/Armors, Unread Books Glow, Glowing Ore Veins and Better Dynamic Snow; does this have an effect on this patch/bashed patch? Sorry if I'm being a numpty. Sometimes I need basic, step-by-step instructions and if something doesn't follow 'exactly' as described in a guide, I worry it'll cause issues with my game long term. I just want a playthrough which I'm hoping to start tomorrow with a good load of beer as it's my first night to myself in a month! Regards Mal. -

Hi All, A quick query regarding the STEP Patches. If only installing a selection of mods listed in the STEP 2.2.9 Guide (29 to be exact in my case as they're ones I can't live without, but also because I want to actually PLAY the game this time round as opposed to spending months diagnosing mod issues/reading/learning/posting help topics etc.) do I install the STEP Combined Patch or just download the mods within it i.e. more salt please, no spinning death animation etc. and load them in manually? If the former, do I add bash tags prior to rebuilding my bashed patch, if so which ones? I should point out I have all DLC's apart from Hearthfire. Thanks in advance. Mal. -

Hi All, Thanks very much for the suggestions - it's appreciated :) I can confirm my cards have 3GB of VRAM and also can confirm I have the following lines already present: skse.ini [General] ClearInvalidRegistrations=1 [Memory]DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768ScrapHeapSizeMB=256 enblocal.ini VideoMemorySizeMb=AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true The only ini tweaks I have are those suggested by S.T.E.P 2.2.9 sections 1.D.1 & 1.D.2 I'd rather not change anything I don't have to because I don't want to introduce anything that could cause instability further down the line. The game runs fine with just one card enabled and I'd like to have a serious play through this time round (I've spent sincd Oct 2013 just trying to get the game stable), which is why I have hand-picked 29 plugins only, tested each one individually and ensured they play nice together. I should also point out that: Mods were installed with Mod Organizer (v1.2.9) in the order depicted by the tables in the guide, following the "detailed instructions" for each mod and reading the related mod information page for compatibility/installation issuesMods were sorted using LOOT 0.6.0Mods tagged as unclean were cleaned with TES5Edit individually in the manner outlined in the guideWyre Bash was run via MO to create a bashed patch to merge the levelled lists. This created a bashed patch in the overwrite folder of MO, which was then installed 'as a mod' by using the 'create mod' feature. This was placed at the bottom of the left-hand pane window and was automatically at the bottom of my 'plugins' list. Both are checked.Each mod was checked individually to ensure dummy plugins were disabled, mod-specific tweaks were applied i.e. Flora Overhaul ini tweaks for grass, bashed tags for AmidianBorn Content Addon (was unsure about this one as Wyre Bash said it had no tags and was set to 'automatic', LOOT didn't suggest anything for it but Skyrim Revisted guide via S.T.E.P states this one needs 'relev, delev' tags. I've just left this as 'automatic' within Wyre Bash)Tested game stability for 15 mins using Speedmult 1500 - no issues.Regards Mal. -

Hi All, As the title suggests, I cannot resolve the age-old issue of Microstutter with my game with Crossfire enabled. I have 2 x MSI 7970 Lightnings 3GB in Crossfire (not overclocked) with the latest stable (14.4) drivers. I should point out that TESV.exe is optimised EXACTLY as pointed out in section 1.E.1.1 of S.T.E.P 2.2.9 and CCC Guide. Here's what I've tried thus far: Setting an FPS limiter in enblocal.ini to 42, 59 and 60fpsSetting Crossfire Mode in Catalyst Control Center (CCC from now on) to "Alternate Frame Rendering Friendly"Tried different permutations of "Wait for vertical refresh" in CCC to 'Always off, Always on, Unless Apllication Specifies" etc.When Crossfire is on, i.e. full Window - both cards light up and Microstutter occurs. Mainly when close to dungeon walls or interiors. It's extremely frustrating and I can't play with that kind of jerkiness. But, if I turn Crossfire off, or use Borderless Window (not full screen, so Crossfire is disabled by default) then the game is butter smooth and silky - perfect; but, of course I'm not getting anywhere near the kind of performance I'd get with having them both enabled. I've had this issue since S.T.E.P 2.2.5 and have rebuilt my machine 4 times during that period - all with different drivers and all with drivers removed in safe mode using the AMD Driver removal utility, restart, then install new drivers; yet the issue persists. I'm not really content to leave it "as is" and play with one card because that essentially means I bought the second card for nothing and its a complete waste of money. It's also niggling at me and I can't leave it because it's personal now Has anyone else had this or know of anything I can try to resolve this? I know my hardware isn't at fault because I can play Diablo 3 for 10+ hours with Crossfire enabled with no stutter or issues of any kind. I can also run Heaven benchmark with Crossfire enabled for hours on end - no issues. One thing I noticed too is that, with Crossfire enabled, when bringing up the game menu, there's a yellow flicker in the background, which is just awful. With Crossfire disabled, it's not there. Been banging my head against the wall with this for over a year; so it's doing my nut in! Any advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks very much all :) Regards Malachor.
