  1. Sorry not to have updated you, I haven't really been playing Skyrim recently :/ I tried ENBoost and so far I haven't had any crashes with it (though I've not played for very long with it). However, it seems to cause the game to generally stutter which is quite annoying in itself. Obviously I need to do some more tweaking but I haven't got around to it yet.
  2. Thanks. I do have mostly 2k/4k textures because, when downloading them, I thought VRAM would be my main limitation and that I would be fine with 3 gigs (which I am). I hadn't heard about this issue of course :( Thanks, I think I'll look into ENBoost first then. If I can continue using the textures I have and solve some/most/all(!) of my CTDs then that'd be best, of course. Save a lot of time and mean Skyrim continues to look top notch.
  3. So, I can't be bothered to read through 45 pages. Can someone quickly answer this for me: I have installed most mods from STEP, using super high resolution textures where available. My game CTDs when system RAM usage gets to around 3.1GB as reported by Windows. It seems that there is no fix to let Skyrim use more memory, so instead I want to reduce how much it uses. Should I look at DDSopt or optimising textures in general, or should I just go back and download lower resolution versions of texture mods (say, stick to STEP Baseline)? Thanks System specs btw: i5-2500K @ 4.5GHz 8GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24 64GB Crucial M4 (Windows, Steam, and Skyrim installed on this) ASUS 7970 Matrix Platinum (3GB, 1100MHz core, 6.6GHz memory)
  4. Yep, you just want the main ESM and one ESP installed. Which ESP you pick will depend on which other things you have installed. Mine looks like this: And obviously the ESM and ESP appear in your plugin list as well.
  5. You may find that after creating several hundred unique saves, it takes a little while to load the load and/or save menus in Skyrim. Then just move your saves somewhere else, but still keep them just in case. So you'll have clutter/lag free menus without losing the saves :) Anyway, it's really up to you whether to play Skyrim vanilla for a bit. Personally I rarely like to mod a game that much at the beginning... I played about 120 hours of Skyrim before really starting to think about modding it. If you get 10 minutes in and decide that you want to mod it, do so. If you get 10 hours in and decide it's time to mod it, start modding it then instead. Installing mods onto an existing save doesn't, in my experience, have any negative impacts, but some people have reported it does, so make a backup of your saves before installing any mods. The STEP guide made this pretty clear to me, but in general when modding: backup! Especially when it comes to save games :)
  6. Oh, when I said that I did the "save game cleaning procedure" that's the one I meant, I should've been more specific :p Whoops, my bad, reading intermittently at work >.< Unfortunately I don't have any more advice, so unless someone else can chime in here I'd suggest you post on the mod's Nexus thread. No worries. Do you mean the STEP 'mod' on Nexus? I hadn't even thought of that, to be honest! No, you'll likely encounter the same people there as you would here :P I meant iHUD's thread on the Nexus. Oh but that was just an example, when I last loaded the save after going through the process on the wiki, I got roughly 200 lines worth of errors and warnings relating to missing files and scripts and the like :(

  9. Hey there, I recently followed STEP for the first time and found it to be pretty awesome, but then I realised my save game had a lot of rubbish in from mods that I had installed before STEP. Since I wanted to choose some lower resolution textures anyway and remove a few mods, I reverted to vanilla Skyrim and tried doing the save game cleaning procedure. Everything seemed to go as it said, but my save still contains a lot of stuff from old mods. For instance: [11/29/2012 - 03:18:31PM] Cannot open store for class "ihudmagickabarscript", missing file? [11/29/2012 - 03:18:31PM] warning: Unable to get type ihudmagickabarscript referenced by the save game. Objects of this type will not be loaded.I've not experienced any oddities playing the save either with the STEP mods (only uninstalled them as there was a fair amount of stuttering) or with vanilla Skyrim, but it doesn't seem particularly great that my save contains all this left over stuff. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Or should I just not worry about it and use the save anyway? I don't want to lose this character :( Thanks
