Well, I found the issue. It was a goof up on my part. I was repacking everything into archives that would work with NMM and I guess I downloaded extended slider colors and labeled it incorrectly so it wasnt showing in NMM properly. That said, it was my intention to use the mod. The only thing I wanted was fair skin for high elves, anyone know an alternate to achieve this?

I found the problem, it was actually a bios setting. Speedstep was not acting properly, which is weird because the option was enabled with my last install and everything ran fine. Regardless, I disabled the option and the files processed much faster. It still took 6 hours though, so maybe something else in Windows is causing conflict process handling, causing further issues with speedstep. Ill have to look more into the issue but its working now for the most part. Thanks for the help all! Had it not been suggested that the CPU should be maxing, I wouldn't have found the issue!

Yeah cause I am hovering at around 17% CPU and its set to realtime. Nothing else is running and in fact I disabled almost all applications from loading on startup. I also disabled my antivirus when I started. I know my CPU can be maxed by other applications. Remoting in now, I just loaded a couple other applications and CPU usage shot up. I wonder if I am missing some other file or Windows patch. Aside from install errors, nothing with my system has changed except having just been clean installed. Before clean install, DDSopt ran fine, now it doesnt. Weird

Thanks!

Yes I use dropbox, since the feature was available through the forum I figured I would use it. I have removed the attachment. Yeah, it's just throwing me off that it still says another 1300 minutes ... it starts to go down then springs back up. As said before, my main concern was whether it is creating errors or corrupting the files. I wasn't sure if I should let it continue and use these files or get to the root of the issue and try optimization again later. I have a general idea how the application works based on the wiki but didnt know how well it would catch errors if there was a hardware/driver issue. Since I am using the STEP guide, it takes awhile to get everything installed and configured. I didn't want to go through that process just to find my optimization failed and I have to start over. Anyways, thanks for the info! Edit: Yeah, I believe it is going to take a considerable amount of time more. It JUST finished with the architecture folder after a couple hours. My CPU usage is down, my HD usage is down and my ram usage is down. It just doesnt seem like the application is working at full throttle.

Yes, I am remoted into the computer right now. It processes one file every few seconds atm. Current both the HD folders are complete. It is currently on the architecture folder of STD.I used DDSopt to extract the files from the BSA then to optimize. Another thing to note, last time I used this application was on my Windows 7 install that had been established for some time. When I started, it ran fine. Now, I am using a clean install and when I first went to use the application it gave an error. I dont remember the exact wording but following the VCRedist 2010 x64 link, installing and then adding a security update resolved the issue. Here are the log files from extraction: Final report "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - HRDLC1":processed files: 1369modified textures: 0 fixed textures: 0 fixed files: 0 broken files: 0 (0 without fixed ones) planar (1x1) textures: 0 changed texture formats: 0 i/o delta: 977211905 bytes z delta: -2015700734 bytes Final report "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - HRDLC2": processed files: 1429 modified textures: 0 fixed textures: 0 fixed files: 0 broken files: 0 (0 without fixed ones) planar (1x1) textures: 0 changed texture formats: 0 i/o delta: -1687287248 bytes z delta: -1263159264 bytes Final report "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD": processed files: 18670 modified textures: 0 fixed textures: 0 fixed files: 0 broken files: 0 (0 without fixed ones) planar (1x1) textures: 0 changed texture formats: 0 i/o delta: 1913537796 bytes z delta: -1388180216 bytes Then here is from the optimization so far: Final report "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - HRDLC1": processed files: 1369 modified textures: 0 fixed textures: 0 fixed files: 0 broken files: 0 (0 without fixed ones) planar (1x1) textures: 0 changed texture formats: 0 i/o delta: 977211905 bytes z delta: -2015700734 bytes Final report "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - HRDLC2": processed files: 1429 modified textures: 0 fixed textures: 0 fixed files: 0 broken files: 0 (0 without fixed ones) planar (1x1) textures: 0 changed texture formats: 0 i/o delta: -1687287248 bytes z delta: -1263159264 bytes Here is a snip of the end of the current work file: # sstonestep01_n.dds ########################################################## C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD\textures\architecture\solitude\sstonestep01_n.dds processing: Format : DXT5 Dimensions : 512x512 - 10 levels notes: Alpha-channel has 165 distinct value(s). # sstonewall.dds ############################################################## C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD\textures\architecture\solitude\sstonewall.dds processing: Format : DXT1 Dimensions : 512x512 - 10 levels # sstonewall02.dds ############################################################ C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD\textures\architecture\solitude\sstonewall02.dds processing: Format : DXT1 Dimensions : 512x512 - 10 levels # sstonewall02_n.dds ########################################################## C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD\textures\architecture\solitude\sstonewall02_n.dds processing: Format : DXT5 Dimensions : 512x512 - 10 levels notes: Alpha-channel has 180 distinct value(s). # sstonewall03.dds ############################################################ C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Vanilla Extracted\Skyrim - STD\textures\architecture\solitude\sstonewall03.dds processing:

Still running atm, almost at 800 minutes running and estimating another 1300. However, looking at the optimized folder, it looks like it has already processed the HD textures. Right now it is just starting to process the STD. I wonder if there is something wrong with the STD textures that is causing this to take so long. If I just let it finish, which I dont really want to do considering the length of time, how would I tell if everything was optimized correctly? My concern isn't just that the process is taking long but that the textures are going to be incorrect or corrupt.

I've searched around and understand that after a bit of time the estimated time should drop, however it hasn't yet. I've let the application run overnight (8.8 hours so far) and it is only 1/3 complete with an estimate of another 25 hours. Any idea what might be the issue? This is a clean install of Windows and I followed the DDSopt guide completely. I've actually used this guide once before but accidentally left the file on the wrong drive when doing the clean install. The last time I followed the guide it estimated about 18 hours and dropped quickly, taking maybe 1-2 hours. All Windows updates are installed and drivers are up-to-date. i7 950 OC to 4.2Ghz 6GB DDR3 Crucial 256GB M4 SSD Windows 7 64Bit Pro Windows 7 65 Pro

Thanks for the quick reply! Can I take it that you recommend still using the optimized textures by Vano then? Installing STD -> HD DLC 1 -> HD DLC 2 -> Vano Optimized. My main reason for questioning deleting files was mostly due to STD. Since there is no load option to disable, I wondered if having the files in data was redundant and possibly causing unnecessary overhead. I will mess around with RCRN tonight and see if that fixes the issue. I forgot to mention that I had already tried stock ini setting with no further luck. I will also visit the troubleshooting guide. There is also a sound tweak I want to try but consider I can run vanilla fine, I doubt it will be the issue. One other question, is there any need to edit the ini with the two entries for the HD DLC as some mods suggest? My thought, since the HD DLC is now in the data folder, the edit is not necessary. Edit: Will do, thanks frihyland.

If someone would be so kind as to read the details below of what I have done and tell me if my steps sound correct. I am having some crash/freezing issues and it's tough trying to troubleshoot with so many mods, not even being sure if the mods are the problem. On a side note, I have uninstalled all mods not recommended by this guide. Using the S.TE.P. guide, I was going to use the Hi-Res DLC Optimized pack with a hybrid but then read about DDSopt. Though, I am still a little confused. I ran a clean install via steam files, which either already had or auto downloaded the official HD DLC. Once installed, I used the following guide ( https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Skyrim_Installation#DLC ). From step 7 of the above guide, I switched to the DDSopt Optimization section of the following guide (https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:DDSopt_%26_Texture_Overhauls). From step 7 of this new guide is where I started to get confused. What I did was repackage each folder (3) into their own archives then installed them via NMM. First, I installed the Skyrim - Textures (STD) archive, then the Skyrim - HRDLC1 and finally Skyrim - HRDLC2, each time overwriting any files from the previous. In addition, I unchecked the HD DLC items from the load order. So first, is the above correct? I wasn't sure what to do with the STD textures. Should I have deleted the STD bsa and or the HD bsa files? Second, following the above procedures means I do not need the Hi-Res DLC Optimized from the STEP guide, correct? After installing the noted STD and HD archives above, I continued with the STEP guide from B1 Skyrim Realistic Overhaul. I followed every other STEP instruction to the letter from there. The only other exceptions I made was to any mods listed with a green FPS indication; I still downloaded the highest resolution texture available taking into consideration STEP notes. Going through the install, I had a handful of mods that did not overwrite the same files indicated in the STEP guide. Some mods either overwrote different files altogether while other mods just didnt indicate overwriting anything. I did make absolutely sure that every mod was setup correctly with its install structure. Although, I did repackage everything so that I could still install all mods via NMM, making sure to keep the install order the same. Finally, I ran the newest beta release of Optimizer Textures with the suggested settings. Also, I have tried the game with and without this optimizer, both freeze. I wasn't sure if using this was redundant after having used DDSopt. I pointed to my main install folder, so if anything it might have attempted further optimization of the STD and HD textures. That said, the optimizer only ran for about 60 minutes give or take, very quick considering what I was expecting but I did change the process priority to realtime. The game appears to load fine and I am able to start a new game. However, by the time the horse and carriage reaches town, the game has usually locked up. About 80% of the time the game locks on the ride to town. The rest of the time I am able to make it through but the game eventually locks at some point most of the time. Additionally, loading an older save sometimes has the game stuck in a loop on the loading screen. If the game does load from an older save, it will typically freeze within a few minutes. I am NOT trying to troubleshoot an old save though, with so many mods I assumed I would need to start over. No wrappers and FRAPS is off.
