# Navigate into Fallout 3 Mod Organizer's /mods/ subdirectory.
# Create directory called '''TTW Body Replacers'''
# Launch '''fo3 Mod Organizer'''
# Right-click on the '''TTW Body Replacers''' mod (which is greyed-out at the moment due to being empty) and select [Open in explorer].
# Move this explorer window aside for now. It will be used often and will need to remain open during this leg of the process.
# Return to Mod Organizer. Right-click on the '''fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers''' mod and select [Open in explorer].
# Copy (don't move) the /textures and /meshes directories from '''fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers''' to '''TTW Body Replacers''' via the two Explorer windows.
# Close the '''fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers''' Explorer window and return to Mod Organizer, keeping the '''TTW Body Replacers''' Explorer window open.
# Uncheck '''fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers'''. It is now in the list simply to check for updates on occasion or in case the decision is made at a later date to change any of the selections in this merge.
# Right-click '''fo3-Point Lookout Outfits For Type 3''' and repeat the above copy process, putting a checkmark in [Do this for all current items] and selecting [yes] when it speaks of folder replacing.
# Keep repeating the process until '''fo3-Pittraider Replacer''' is reached. This should be the first of the mods that actually overwrites files from previous mods. For these, the overwrite is wanted, so place a checkmark in [Do this for the next [x] conflicts] when prompted and click [Copy and Replace].
# Once the final mod has been copied (it should be Breezes or Roberts, assuming you chose to install either), close out of all Explorer windows and the '''fo3 Mod Organizer''' WITHOUT activating '''TTW Body Replacers'''.
# Open a new Explorer window and navigate into the '''FO3 Mod Organizer''' /mods/ subdirectory.
# Move (not copy) the '''TTW Body Replacers''' directory into the /mods/ subdirectory of your '''FNV Mod Organizer''' directory.
# Open '''FNV Mod Organizer'''. '''TTW Body Replacers''' should now be a mod listed at the bottom of the list.
# As done in the prior steps, right-click '''TTW Body Replacers''', choose [Open in Explorer] and then do the same with '''fnv-BEWARE OF GIRL Type 3 HiRez HiDetailed Replacer'''.
# Repeat the copy process in here for all mods, except (this time) remember to copy over any .esp files as well. (If you chose to use the Breeses body, there should only be '''DeadMoneyFemaleTuxedo.esp''', but if you opted to go with Roberts body, there should also be '''Roberts_NewVegas.esp''')
# Close out of both Explorer windows and '''FNV Mod Organizer''' WITHOUT activating '''TTW Body Replacers'''.
# Open a new Explorer window and navigate into the '''FNV Mod Organizer''' /mods/ subdirectory.
# Navigate into the '''TTW Body Replacers''' directory and use 7zip (or other favored archive program) to create an archive of the directory's contents.
# Via Explorer, move this new archive into the /downloads/ subdirectory of the '''TTW Mod Organizer''' (or into the second-hard drive directory created for TTW earlier, if following the SSD space-saver option) and launch '''TTW Mod Organizer'''.
# Click on the '''Downloads''' tab and install the mod as normal. Now you have a "finished copy" of the mod built using the above steps, which will save both time and headache in the event that a reinstall has to happen.

Best Of Both Worlds - A TTW Guide
Introduction to "A Tale Of Two Wastelands"
For the uninitiated, "A Tale Of Two Wastelands" is a large mod/overhaul of Fallout New Vegas to incorporate the whole of Fallout 3 into the game, allowing you to play through both storylines (usually starting in DC and then moving to the Mojave from there, although you do have options) with the same character in the same playthrough.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Cool, huh?
Only things that you need are legal (as in NOT pirated!) copies of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas installed, with ALL of the DLCs for both, per the TTW website: Template:Notice
Well, you also need a mod manager to actually implement "A Tale Of Two Wastelands" but just running TTW vanilla? That's all you need.
However, you aren't reading this page because you want to run it vanilla, are you? Good...
Introduction to "Best Of Both Worlds"
This guide is not meant as (and never will be) a replacement for the installation instructions on the Tale Of Two Wastelands site, especially when it comes to the core files, but rather a supplement. Updates happen...changes happen. Look at the dates - if I say "Do X" and the mod author says "Do Y" and their directions are newer, that means that you should probably heed their advice as preferential, since an update probably happened.
Some of this guide is based off of the STEP guides "Clear And Present Danger" ( Link ) and "Fear & Loathing In New Vegas" ( Link ), but some mods have been skipped for personal preference while more mods that weren't on those lists were added for the same.
About the "Best Of Both Worlds" Vault-Boys
This wiki employs the use of small visual cues to not only help break up the wall-of-text effect, but also to serve as an at-a-glance reminder as to what will be covered in that section.
Required Tools
|
Installing Mod Organizer"Best Of Both Worlds" uses three copies of Mod Organizer in order to install mods correctly, especially those that were packaged wrong or that come with FOMOD or BAIN installers.
Unpacking Mod Organizer
Installing Mod Organizer for Fallout 3
Mod Organizer is now set up for Fallout 3, with the files being stored outside of the SSD drive/game folder, BUT also allowing testing of mods in the native Fallout 3 game, as well as auto-tracking mod updates and endorsements, etc.,
Mod Organizer is now set up for Fallout: New Vegas, with the files being stored outside of the SSD drive/game folder, BUT also allowing testing of mods in the native Fallout: New Vegas game, as well as auto-tracking mod updates and endorsements, etc.,
Mod Organizer is now set up for Fallout: A Tale Of Two Wastelands, with the downloaded files being stored outside of the SSD drive/game folder and the installed mods being stored on the SSD/in the game directory, allowing testing of mods in the Fallout: A Tale Of Two Wastelands game. This will also be the version of Mod Organizer used to play the game, once the mod-out is completed. Auto-tracking mod updates and endorsements, etc. are problematic, at best, for TTW mods unless they are downloaded from the Nexus itself., |
Installing xedit and the Scripts
If done correctly, FNVEdit, if run, will have both the Merge Plugins 1.75 and the TTW Conversion Script available as selections, but the Mod Organizers still need to be set up to call to these programs from within Mod Organizer, otherwise xedit won't see any plugins that are installed via Mod Organizer.
And that's it. Now when mods need cleaning, merging, or converting, it can be done. |

- Author: Nivea and Favoredsoul
- Version: 3.2
- Files needed: ROBERTS for New Vegas MAIN FILE, Honest Hearts DLC Patch (For those wishing to keep their game SFW, I would recommend skipping this one since the tribals don't seem to have a 'nevernude' version available), Lonesome Road DLC Patch, Old World Blues DLC Patch
- Instructions: Start with ROBERTS for New Vegas MAIN FILE, and then install patches afterward, choosing [Merge] when prompted.Install normally, using FOMOD installer to pick selections. Be sure to name the mod fnv-Roberts Male Body in Mod Organizer
- Navigate into Fallout 3 Mod Organizer's /mods/ subdirectory.
- Create directory called TTW Body Replacers
- Launch fo3 Mod Organizer
- Right-click on the TTW Body Replacers mod (which is greyed-out at the moment due to being empty) and select [Open in explorer].
- Move this explorer window aside for now. It will be used often and will need to remain open during this leg of the process.
- Return to Mod Organizer. Right-click on the fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers mod and select [Open in explorer].
- Copy (don't move) the /textures and /meshes directories from fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers to TTW Body Replacers via the two Explorer windows.
- Close the fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers Explorer window and return to Mod Organizer, keeping the TTW Body Replacers Explorer window open.
- Uncheck fo3-Type3 Armor Replacers. It is now in the list simply to check for updates on occasion or in case the decision is made at a later date to change any of the selections in this merge.
- Right-click fo3-Point Lookout Outfits For Type 3 and repeat the above copy process, putting a checkmark in [Do this for all current items] and selecting [yes] when it speaks of folder replacing.
- Keep repeating the process until fo3-Pittraider Replacer is reached. This should be the first of the mods that actually overwrites files from previous mods. For these, the overwrite is wanted, so place a checkmark in [Do this for the next [x] conflicts] when prompted and click [Copy and Replace].
- Once the final mod has been copied (it should be Breezes or Roberts, assuming you chose to install either), close out of all Explorer windows and the fo3 Mod Organizer WITHOUT activating TTW Body Replacers.
- Open a new Explorer window and navigate into the FO3 Mod Organizer /mods/ subdirectory.
- Move (not copy) the TTW Body Replacers directory into the /mods/ subdirectory of your FNV Mod Organizer directory.
- Open FNV Mod Organizer. TTW Body Replacers should now be a mod listed at the bottom of the list.
- As done in the prior steps, right-click TTW Body Replacers, choose [Open in Explorer] and then do the same with fnv-BEWARE OF GIRL Type 3 HiRez HiDetailed Replacer.
- Repeat the copy process in here for all mods, except (this time) remember to copy over any .esp files as well. (If you chose to use the Breeses body, there should only be DeadMoneyFemaleTuxedo.esp, but if you opted to go with Roberts body, there should also be Roberts_NewVegas.esp)
- Close out of both Explorer windows and FNV Mod Organizer WITHOUT activating TTW Body Replacers.
- Open a new Explorer window and navigate into the FNV Mod Organizer /mods/ subdirectory.
- Navigate into the TTW Body Replacers directory and use 7zip (or other favored archive program) to create an archive of the directory's contents.
- Via Explorer, move this new archive into the /downloads/ subdirectory of the TTW Mod Organizer (or into the second-hard drive directory created for TTW earlier, if following the SSD space-saver option) and launch TTW Mod Organizer.
- Click on the Downloads tab and install the mod as normal. Now you have a "finished copy" of the mod built using the above steps, which will save both time and headache in the event that a reinstall has to happen.
