User talk:Neovalen/Skyrim Revisited - Legendary Edition

From Step Mods | Change The Game

Beautifully done Neo, I'm currently installing Skyrim and going through Skyrim Revisited. I'll leave notes here as I run through it. --Frihyland (talk) 19:35, October 21, 2013 (UTC)

Link to Creation Kit should be this: https://www.creationkit.com/Category:Getting_Started

Missing ENB in Tools section (or put it in a new section called graphics extenders) Link: https://www.enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.htm Python version of Wrye Bash should be checked during installation to automatically install python and its libraries (required by MO). Perhaps a note about 7zip and Java which will be required as well.

Configure skyrim, set game difficulty to at least expert to turn on advanced scripted AI functionality

Configure MO, add DDSopt and Enb manager to the list of executables

You might want to think about creating interim profiles that each build on each other, for instance: vanilla skyrim, core step, extended step (this profile may not be as helpful depending on how different it is from revisited), skyrim revisited. It wouldn't be very difficult and it makes installing and testing much easier and reliable, by breaking the process into easily managed chunks instead of all or nothing. Maybe just breaking it up by section would be better depending on the degree of difference between STEP. Really anything that encourages installing in smaller chunks and testing as you go (as well as setting up easy as pie troubleshooting profiles).

Clean ESM's is too complicated and not complete. Make a zip of all the esm's before running tes5edit and name it Vanilla ESMs. After cleaning make a zip of the cleaned esms named Cleaned Vanilla ESMs. Remove the TES5Edit Backups folder from <Mod Organizer Path>/overwrite. Unzip the vanilla esms zip to skyrim/data and overwrite. Add the cleaned esms zip to MO and activate.

The texture optimization guide looks good but I skipped it as I am using a truly sick video card with 6GB.

Great Job, but there are a few minor questions[edit source]

It can easily be that I'm stupid, but while going through this beautifully prepared work, I've run into a few questions:

  1. The Guide says: "Notice:Critically Important! The first time a mod is installed that contains .bsa file Mod Organizer will ask if you wish to extract it. Respond [Yes] and check the box labeled "Remember Selection" so you will not be prompted again."
Question: Wasn't this feature completely abolished from newer versions of MO (as they now consider that BSA extraction is inherently bad)? What are we supposed to do about it (for the time being, I didn't extract any BSAs, but have no idea if it will cause problems down the road)?
  2. For Dual Sheath Redux, The Guide says "Immersive Armors V7 Pack" optional, but the page for Dual Sheath Redux has also V7.1, is it a typo in The Guide or intentional use of the older stuff?
  3. When generating FNIS, I'm getting rather unusual message "Skeleton female: Unknown (123 bones) male: Unknown (123 bones)". Am I doing things correctly (if I'm not mistaken, normally XP32 leads to a 242-bone skeleton)? I am not arguing, just wondering if I've made a mistake which will haunt me somewhere down the road.
  4. The Guide says in The Skyrim Distance Overhaul to remove textures/terrain/tamriel/objects/Tamriel.Objects.DDS, what about textures/terrain/tamriel/objects/Tamriel.Objects_n.DDS ? I have no opinion of my own, just worried about potential typo.
  5. The Guide says: "Notice:There is a known issue with SkyProc patchers having masters ordered improperly. To fix this:..." Probably I'm indeed stupid, but it is unclear to me where it can be observed (in the Bash?), and if it really matters (I used to think that improper order is not a big deal - probably I'm wrong?)
