I couldn't find a a fix for the missing book text so I deleted all of my local conent through Steam and for good measure deleted the Skyrim folder. Then I unziped a save I made of the Skyrim folder without the mods installed. I can read the books again, Yea! Unfortunately Steam doesn't see my Skyrim installation so it wants to re-install Skyrim when I run the launcher. I have no desire to do that. So If someone can do the "spoiler" thing with everything maxed out so I can copy and paste it that would be great.
Thanks.
John
BTW. Does this mean that Steam won't be updating ( read, possiblly breaking) my Skyrim anymore?
