Skyrim Realistic Overhaul overhauls a ton of the textures in the game while keeping the vanilla style.
General Note
SRO has some very large textures including a lot of 4K and 2K. Users with limited VRAM and GPU power may wish to consider constraining the sizes using DDSopt. I will not be doing so for this guide.

Installation

  1. Download the following files from Mod DB:
    • Skyrim Realistic Overhaul Part 1
    • Skyrim Realistic Overhaul Part 2
    • Skyrim Realistic Overhaul Part 3
    • Skyrim Realistic Overhaul Part 4
  2. Extract all 4 archives into a single directory and overwrite anything when asked.
    I have named my directory Skyrim Realistic Overhaul SSE.
    Fair warning...there is nearly 10GBs (extracted) of textures for this mod.
  3. Ensure the textures folder is the only sub-directory and archive the mod.
  4. Install with MO2

Known Game Breaking Bug:
  • Problem: During the main quest at the Thalmor embassy you can't get through the door to continue on with the main quest.
  • Solution: Delete Cell \ Block 7 \ Sub-Block 4 \ 0007C98B <ThalmorEmbassy01> from EnhancedLightsandFX.esp

Once the above is done a Script needs to be run to clean the Formlist IDs:

  1. Search for xx16733B (xx is the formid of EnhancedLightsandFX.esp) then
  2. Right click on that record and select apply script
  3. Select Remove invalid entries from from lists
  4. Click OK.
  5. You can now exit and save the esp.
